Handyman Reviews in Memphis

I purchased a Big Deal of the Day from this provider on MAY 9 (yes, almost 6 weeks ago): $149.00 for 5 hours of wood rot repair. I got a message from
that day (great; loved that) and replied by e-mail 8 days later (his message went to the Spam folder inadvertently and I neglected to flag it). Five days later, he replied; and here's the exchanges thereafter. NOTE: There's a lot to read, but it's worth it.

Hello Mr.
I would like to call and set up a time to come and look at the work to be done, if possible can I get a contact number?

Hi! Sorry for the delayed response; end of the school year and I just neglected to flag your message. Call me at 901-299-2370. I will be in town now the last week of May.

My apologies for being late on getting back with you. We have sold 34 jobs and with the weather last weeks being so bad we are behind and are getting to everyone. Please be patient with us as we get to everyone.
Thanks again for your business!.

5/29/2014 (ONE WEEK LATER)
What's your estimated time for coming out to do this work?

Please call me immediately at 901-299-2370 to schedule the work I have already paid your company to do--paid almost one full month ago.
Thank you.

NOTE: On this date, I contacted the company and threatened to publish all the details above. Two days later, I received the following note on the Angie's List e-mail system.

Tre has tried to contact you but has no luck. Here is his number 901-238-9316,
he will be more than happy to come out and take care of it for you.

is unavailable, when did you talk with him? I will find out what is
going on. I do apologize about the wait. I know how frustrating it is
when you have paid for something and then get no response. I will be on
top of this matter. the weather has played a huge role in our jobs. I am
truly sorry.
NOTE: I have no clue who wrote the above message; however, I contacted Tre (his words: "I am
.") at the above number and he indicated he could get to me on 6/27/14, which he did. He and two other guys came to my house spent 2-1/2 hours total and left. But the job they performed, to quote a suitable country expression, didn't feed the dog . . .
Though I appreciate the fact that
finally came out to do the work I contracted for you to do on May 9, the Angie's List review I am preparing to post is not going to go well, for the following reasons:
1) You charged me $125.00 for less than $30.00 worth of materials; the very idea that you would claim "cost of gas" and so on as part of that fee is absurd.
2) The plywood you used to replace what had rotted is of vastly inferior quality to what was there and the difference is obvious to even the most casual observer: the wood grain is rough and ragged as opposed to the smooth finish of the existing fascia. I have pictures of this.
3) You failed to replace the venting in the fascia, so not only do I have poorer ventilation along the roof line but also it is apparent that the vent was omitted since the others are visible.
4) The clean-up of the work areas was haphazard: there were numerous roofing nails and other demolition debris scattered about that I had to clear away. I have numerous pictures of this.
5) The repainting was slapdash as well: the edges are all uneven and it looks not at all like a professional did the work. I have pictures of this.
This is more than disappointing, Tre: it's unacceptable. I get that you are busy, I get that it has rained a lot, I get that you sold 35 jobs, etc. You're the businessman and it's up to you to make sure you have enough labor supply to meet the demand for your services, particularly if you advertised in an effort to stimulate that demand. I'd like you to contact me as soon as possible to discuss what I see as the only acceptable remedy:
1) you and your crew return to do the work again (properly this time);
2) bring with you a check for $125.00 made payable to me as recompense for having overcharged me for the materials you purchased Friday;
3) you tell me what materials need to be purchased and I will bring them to the house for your use. In exchange for this appropriate remedy, I will simply not post a review at all on Angie's List nor contact the company about
and its participation in the Big Deal promotions series. Please respond as soon as possible so we can all move along.
Thank you,

- Jonas H.

The job was completed and I am very satisfied with the repair. I am hiring them to repair the rotted wood and painting for the rest of my house around the windows. Also he installed a lighted doorbell and new address numbers above my garage. They are very polite and worked fast, I am also having them to come back to stain my kitchen cabinets once they complete the wood repair on my windows.
gave me great estimate for the jobs I need completed and the quotes are very reasonable. I would recommend him to everyone needed repairs.

Prompt, courteous professional service and completely trustworthy. Every job was meticulously completed with prompt follow-up for rare corrective action requirements. Competitive pricing for painting, plumbing and electrical work-all with timely service. Have continued to use, and would strongly recommend for any job regardless of scope. Page and crew is great. The house is an 85-year old typical Midtown house with a small bathroom. We met with

to go over the possibilities with the intent to hold down costs by keeping existing walls if possible. They ended up moving some doorways so that we include the existing hallway in the expanded bathroom. They also rebuilt the closets.

and crew involved us every step of the way to make sure we were happy with the floor plan. Also, the tile work is beautiful. They added a knee wall at the end of the bathtub with glass panel for the end cap. It turned out great. Our bathroom is open and airy, but still seems in sync with an 85-year old house. They redid our bathroom window which had been covered up for 20 years. Everything ended up amazing. We will use them for the outside and window replacement next.

He came out to do the estimate but never called me back. I thought he had done the repair and was waiting for his invoice. Several weeks later the tenant said he had not done the work but did a temporary fix in one area. I called him and asked him to give me an estimate for the work. He said it would be a week, after the rain stopped. He never called me back. I had to call someone else.

I purchased a coupon from Living Social which advertised this company as:
This Memphis-based company has been helping clients beautify their homes while offering superb customer service since 2010. Get a gorgeous interior painting -- or enlist their moving services -- with this offer:• $87 ($175 value) for an interior painting for 1 room + trim for 12x12x8 room (paint not included)
• $137 ($275 value) for an interior painting for 2 rooms + trim for 12x12x8 rooms (paint not included)
• $99 ($200 value) for two hours of moving servicesWooten's Property Preservation's Website
I purchased the coupon for $137 ($275 value) for two small rooms. I contacted the company via email, explained the scope of work (two small rooms with paneling at halfway point of wall). An appointment was set up for Saturday, June 7 at 1:00. All the items had to be removed from the room which were done and we waited for Mr.

to arrive. 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 no Mr.

. I called and called, no answer no return call. Around 6 that night I finally reached Mr.

and was told he had run over on his job today in Collierville and he didn't have any cell phone service.
Another appointment was set up for Tuesday, June 10 at 3:00. 3:00 came, 4:00 came, 5:00 came, no Mr.

. My husband finally reached him and my husband was told that Mr.
Memphis Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
had been in court all day and had spoken with me earlier in the day to say he would be late. This was in fact not true. I had not spoken to Mr.
Memphis Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
nor been told he would not be there at the appointed time. Of course, my husband had less patience with him at this time since he has now stood us up for two appointments. Then he wanted to charge us more for the job since it would include paneling. Now remember, we have already communicated that the job would include paneled walls and he had even given us an estimate of how much paint to buy.
We choose not to use Mr.

because at this point he has proven his lack of professionalism and I certainly don't want him doing any work in my house.

I was very impressed. They were in this morning. They completely sealed off the area that was going to be treated, meaning the entire area was secured off to prevent any of the particles (both paint and cuttings) from getting to the rest of the house. Their team came in and knocked it out in quick fashion, and at this point, it is even hard to tell there was ever that huge hole in our ceiling!! Their cleanup afterwards was complete and comprehensive. I have had them out in the past to build a fence in my back yard, and I will definitely use them again, and recommend them. Thanks!

I had spoken with the contractor regarding the work I wanted completed. It was the repair of some cabinets and the replacement of some molding. He quickly looked at the project, while he was on the phone dealing with some apparent employee issues, explained that his business is about customer service, told me that he would have an estimate to me with in a day and a half. Ok. I had to call after a couple days to get the estimate. We then set up a date for him to do the work. I work out of town and am only in Memphis on the weekends. In order to work with his schedule, I had to take vacation, so I could be in town. He showed up late. Had to ask me details of the job that we had already gone over. He then messed around for about 30-45 minutes, explained to me that he had found some additional things that needed repair and that he'd have to reschedule the work. Seriously? I was giving him the benefit and thought, as long as he does good work, ok. So he sent me a new estimate including the additional work. This was in the middle of May, and I gave him four dates that would work for me in June and asked him to pick one. I still had not heard by the end of May, so I had to call. He picked the date, and I took another day of vacation. Again, he had excuse that his crew would be showing up late. They showed up, late, and then left. Nothing has been completed. He apparently didn't want the work, so I have terminated my interaction with his company and will look for a different contractor.
