Madison Flooring Installers Reviews
He hung plastic to minimize dust in the kitchen and completely cleaned the site up during and when he finished. He even shoveled a path to the door so he wouldn't track snow in. He uses quality products that hardly smelled and he was sensitive to keeping the ventilation fans running to facilitate air exchange as the floors dried.
After looking at several flooring stores my wife settled on a laminate product from Menards. Normally I would have liked to have done the install myself. But because of time constraints and hassle of existing flooring material removal, I wanted to have a professional take care of it. I got a packet of about 10 installers that Menards recommends (does not guarantee or authorize). After researching on Angie's List and the web, I decide to call 2 for free estimates. One of those was
Cost was about the same between
The job was estimated to take 3 days but
We have owned 5 houses and have had much contract work done; this is the best work we've had done in 23 years of multi-house ownership.
We have hired them again to do some more work for us as a result.
First, the communication between us and the "technician" doing the work was nearly impossible. We had to go through the central office to communicate with him. I asked for his cell phone several times, but they'd never give it to me. What this resulted in was us not getting the proper fixtures, or making purchases that weren't compatible, multiple trips to the hardware store that could have been avoided (and didn't need to happen, but ended up extending the overall timeframe of the remodel project) and having to make several returns (of big purchases).
Second problem: they didn't allow enough time to finish the job. They scheduled out four full days for the remodel. The technician only spent two full days at our house, leaving early or coming late the other two, saying "they screwed up and scheduled me somewhere else). He laid blame on the central office that did the scheduling. This is our only bathroom, so unfinished remodeling work is doubly an inconvenience. When the four days were up, the job wasn't completed--far from it, actually. And the technician basically said "call and schedule when I can come back and finish up." Sorry,
Third problem: Shoddy craftsmanship. We have called them back to fix things at least four different times now (stretching on to 8 months after the job was complete). Originally, it was because they didn't finish the job properly--tile that wasn't sealed, grout that was chipping out, grout mess left all over the tile, baseboards not caulked properly, a sink vanity installed unevenly (which resulted in pooling water near the soap dish). Now, we're calling them back because the wiring of the ceiling fan isn't working.
Fourth problem: Accounting. They tried to charge me for things that I bought. Like a $150 ceiling fan! I called them and told them that I had purchased these things, and though I asked for it, they could not give me a dollar-by-dollar breakdown of the expenses I was paying for. Once they removed from the invoice the expenses that I had actually purchased (about $300 worth of materials), they couldn't account for where that $300 they were trying to charge me came from. Absolutely ridiculous.
Fifth problem: Just unprofessional. The technician would slam the office people doing the scheduling, in front of me. The owner of the franchise and the scheduler would slam the technician on the phone with me, and question the job they were doing. This is not how a reputable company operates.
Do yourself a favor and don't ever use these guys for anything but applying oil to a squeaky door hinge, because that is about the level of skill they are capable of, in my opinion. CERTAINLY NOT A BATHROOM REMODEL."
