As a locksmith, what are some of the services you provide?

Rick Boob: "I install locks, unlock cars and houses, and make keys for residential and commercial buildings."

Tracy Renfrow: "We do it all: safes, door installation, electronic strikes, handicap access, rekeying cars and houses, and master keying."

Scott Mays: "We do lockouts and rekeying, we make keys, we sell safes and we do transponder keys."

How do you charge?

Boob: "I charge by time and distance."

Renfrow: "Everything has a set price, but some jobs are charged hourly; it just depends on how long the work takes."

Mays: "We have a minimum service call charge and charge people per job item after that."

What's the average fee for customers locked out of their house, their car or their safe?

Boob: "It's $45 for a house or car lockout. I don't do safes."

Renfrow: "A car or a house lockout is $72.50. Safes are at an hourly rate of $95 plus the service call charge of $42.50."

Mays: "The average fee for a house lockout would be about $72. Safes can be anywhere from $72 for the service call and up, depending on the type of safe."

What's your experience as a locksmith?

Boob: "I've been in the industry for 18 years."

Renfrow: "I've been in the industry for 22 years. The company has been in business since 1914."

Mays: "I've been in the industry for almost 18 years."

Before you start a job, do you require some type of identification?

Boob: "Yes."

Renfrow: "Yes."

Mays: "Absolutely."

What happens if the customer's ID is locked up and they can't get to it?

Boob: "I make sure they have a bill or something with their name on it before I let them in. For a car, I ask for their registration."

Renfrow: "That's one of the situations where you open it up and if the ID doesn't match, we lock it back up, but that's very rare."

Mays: "If someone is locked out, we'll open it and they'll provide the information. We take checking ID very seriously."
