"The person that originally came out to assess the situation was very nice. The problems started once the assessment was complete and we never heard from them again. After calling the company at least 3 times and leaving messages, I contacted my home warranty company to find out whether they knew anything about the repair status. From my home warranty, I learned that AirMax had to order a part. I tried to call AirMax 2 more times to schedule the follow up appointment, left messages, and never heard back from them. On the 3rd try, someone finally answered the phone (Tuesday) and said the part came in last Saturday and that I couldn't get an appointment for repair until the following Tuesday (a week later). Then, the only time that they offered me was 10:00 am, which was not convenient for me, but I felt like I had no choice, as no other dates/times were offered to me. If it wasn't for my home warrently company, I would never use them again.  Overall, it took them over 2 weeks to complete the repair."

Pipeline never even checked on us again after they turned the furnace off - they just packed up and left when they were done in the neighborhood. (Note:

Pipeline did eventually reimburse us the cost of the repair as they had been fixing other home owners 'out of code' flex pipe issues for free before turning furnaces back on. We, unfortunately, did not get that offer.) Thank goodness

was dependable!

What is a fair price for R-22?

By 2015, there will be a 90 percent reduction in the production of R-22. By 2020, it will no longer be produced at all. Because production is limited, costs to charge existing units that are leaking R-22 refrigerant have gone up and are only expected to rise. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member John R. of Lake Mary, Fla.)

Dear Angie: My air conditioning contractor just charged me $100 per pound for R-22 refrigerant. This is a lot more than I paid four years ago. Is this a fair price these days?

Which furnace filters provide the best indoor air quality?

Replacing the air filter will improve air quality and extend the life of a furnace.

Be sure to check the minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) rating when evaluating air filters. You'll also want to learn about the types of filters and what products improve your home’s indoor air quality.

Understanding furnace efficiency ratings

Check the big yellow tag on your furnace for the energy efficiency rating. (Photo courtesy of Angie’s List member Cynthia M. of Springfield, Mass.)

Understanding what energy efficiency ratings mean for furnaces can help you make the best purchase. Ratings don't tell you how much the energy costs will be, but they tell you how well the furnace uses the energy.

Should you install a heat pump or furnace?

Do your research to see whether a heat pump can provide better heating of your home. (Photo courtesy of Angie’s List member John R. of Lake Mary, Fla.)

Both heat pumps and furnaces provide viable ways to heat your home. But what are the differences between these two appliances? Does either one offer a clear advantage in either cost or efficiency?

"Need a furnace?

?t bother flipping through the yellow pages. Call Prudential. They came out the same day we called. The next day, the furnace was installed. They were prompt, efficient, polite, and they left the area spotless! I was even more pleased when the city inspector came out and said that they never have a problem with Prudential?s installations, that they are always above code. You can?t go wrong with these folks. The weather?s getting warm and if our A/C needs a tune-up, I?ll be sure to call Prudential."

"Normally they send a different person every time. They are very good. One time we had a guy who was new and wasn?t very sure of what he was doing. He didn?t catch a leak and it ended up that our air conditioner went out when it was very hot. They came back and fixed it within a day and took care of everything. The project usually goes pretty good. They are here when they say they will be. They are pretty cheap and do a good job. The people are very friendly."

"He performed two tasks for us. 1) We needed a switch installed which would allow us during power outages to switch to our generator. This required adding a new circuit breaker to our outside box and installing a switch inside that powered specific circuits. This task he accomplished as soon as the new breaker arrived, which he ordered. 2) We have a dumbwaiter powered by a chain fall, that rides between the garage and the utility room. It could be activated only from the utility room. We wanted to be able to activate it from both the utility room and the garage. It required finding a specific switch that would work for our application. It took him a number of weeks to find the right switch. He tried a few, but they didn't work to his satisfaction. Throughout the process he kept us informed of what he was doing and when he'd be doing it. Always asking if it was OK before. He absorbed the cost of one of the switches that didn't work right. I will hire him again, without hesitation, when we need electrical work done."

"An inspector found a problem with a humidifier they installed 3 years ago. They stand behind their work. Even though it has been three years, they came out and fixed it at no charge. I've used this company for 4 years and have always been exceptionally satisfied"

"This was a standard check/cleaning of our unit to ensure that everything was in good working order. The service was provided in a professional and efficient manner."

"It was fine, I've just been waiting for the inspection but that's not on them. Everything else is working great. I really like their long record of satisfaction with customers. They've been in business a long time with few complaints. They seem professional and their prices were right in line with the other quotes. Any questions I had or didn't understand they were right on in. "

"I had been given some info on different price range furnaces and over the next couple of days, all my questions were responded to within minutes. Once I made a final decision to go with a 95%-2stage

, scheduling was set up for installation. They arrived on time, worked all day, as this furnace required an entirely different venting system, and returned within two days to complete minor details. All this was done with concern for my schedule and needs.

and A/C is one of the most responsive, customer-oriented companies I have ever used. I used them once before 2 months prior to the furnace, when they came out to check a blocked drain line for me within an hour of my call. It was an easy choice to call them for the servicing While I certainly did not want the expense of a new furnace, Eastern made the purchase and installation a reasonably pleasant experience. I highly recommend them.

"I was very pleased with their work. They installed everything correct the first time. I had them install a bathroom sink, toilet and shower. I loved it so much that I would like to update the other bathrooms in my home."
