Later that day they had someone out the belt was replaced with the expectation that it may be a motor but he didn't want to push any additional parts on an old unit. Was able to get through that load with the belt however the next go around it appeared it was indeed the motor on it's last leg. After a call and a couple days the motor was ordered and installed with very little labor charge.

"My dishwasher is a 4 y/o high end GE Profile. Since installation, it has not been nearly as reliable as our old dishwasher which, after 12 years, simply wore out. This is the fourth service call for the same complaint, and for the same reason - Not cleaning properly. And each time, the repair was the same... Replaced stopped up wash arms.
The service technician was friendly enough, although he often appeared as if he'd rather be somewhere else. He was sort of lackadaisical and acted puzzled about the source of the problem until I suggested that the wash arms were probably stopped up and needed to be replaced, since that is what was done the last three times the same problem occurred. Correct diagnosis is part of a good service technician's job and in my opinion, it should not have required my suggestion for him to arrive at the cause of the problem.
After deciding on the proper corrective action, turns out he did not have the parts on the truck and had to order them. Based on past experience, we assumed that he did not have the parts on the truck. We were correct in that assumption. He scheduled another service call about two weeks after the parts were ordered. In about a week the parts arrived via UPS and we called to schedule another appointment to have them installed. It was another week before a service call could be set up.
It took only a few minutes for the technician to install the new parts and after that, the dishwasher 'worked like new' again. In talking to a GE customer service representatives about the quality of the dishwasher, it was suggested that dishes should be 'thoroughly rinsed' before being put into the dishwasher. It is no reflection on the GE repair service department, but I am of the opinion that a consumer should not have to wash the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. The old dishwasher incorporated a small 'food chopper' that kept food particles from stopping up the wash arms. Apparently the new model does not.
I suspect that this won't be the last time we require GE service to come out for the same problem and the same fix. Thank goodness we have a perpetual service contract that lasts as long as the appliance lasts. At this rate, it has already paid for itself and will many times over.
