"He came to do the work on 2 different occasions. Which was June the 16th of 2015. At that time I thought he had fixed the refrigerator and at that time he said he" was going to order a compressor for the freezer. Which was a separate appliance, because there were two appliances he was supposed to fix. On the first appliance the refrigerator it was never fixed, the top portion which is a small freezer and it was not fixed. He has been to my house 6 different times to fix this and has never fixed the appliances. He always has an excuse and never shows up on time or the date when he says he will be there. On June the 16th 2015 I paid $419.60 for the refrigerator to be fixed in my garage that had a top small freezer. The top portion that small freezer would never work or freeze ice so is still not fixed and I paid him to fix it. The refrigerator DOES NOT WORK AT ALL NOW, it only worked a little bit for a couple of months. 4 weeks after he supposedly fixed the fridge I paid him 450$ for the separate up right freezer which is the 2nd appliance he was supposed to fix for me. Now neither of the appliances work at all and I am out $869.60 total. I just want to be refunded my money for the appliances that were not fixed.

"They were able to get someone out the next day. The guy diagnosed the problem quickly (heating element needed to be replaced), quoted the price (the $49 service" call price was applied to the cost of the repair), and replaced the part. The dryer also had a super annoying rattle, so the guy dug out all of the and pins the previous owners managed to get stuck in the drum for me while he had the cover off. He didn't have to do that, but because he did, I will definitely give this company my business next time I need an appliance repair.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

Since you asked this question over a year ago, I'm pretty sure you've already made your decision but I'd like to offer you some advice.  You mentioned your husband vacuumed the coils and it worked for a couple more weeks.  Chances are the condenser coils were very dirty when he did this.  When refrigerator condenser coils are dirty, the compressor overheats and heat will cause a compressor to fail prematurely.  You should vacuum or blow out your condenser coils regularly.  Today's refrigerator compressors are not made to last like they were in the past.  I remember when it wasn't unusual for a compressor to last 30 years.  You won't see that happen with the way refrigerator compressors are made today.  Regular cleaning of your condenser coils is crucial in preventing premature failure of your compressor.  For more tips, check out my article here on Angie's list titled "How To Avoid Appliance Repairs"

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

It's worth having a qualified appliance tech take a look to find out the cost to repair it. Since the refrigerator side works, it's not likely the compressor or the coil. Could just be the fan switch on the door.

I had this provider work on my built in refrigerator. I had explained to them that they would need to bring a ladder. When they arrived, they didn't have a ladder and the person was not able to reach the motor. The technician stood on a stool and they did not have the tools necessary to see if the motor was getting any power. He said he would come ...More back the next day. I asked if he could come back in the morning and he said, "I don't do mornings." I called to make an appt and asked about this technician, his statement about not doing mornings and not having the right tools. They sent another technician about a week later and I had a similar situation. They had the proper tools to do the job. They finally determined that the board was getting power but they didn't know what the problem was. They then advised me to contact a certified Maytag dealer. When I called Maytag, they asked me to see if the refrigerator was actually on. I climbed up and looked and found that the refrigerator was not turned on. The Magtag technician brought out the board and determined it was the power control board. The cost between these two providers was quite different. The technicians that had sent out were nice and professional but I was very clear when I called what type of refrigerator I have and I specifically asked if they worked on this type.

Ok, repairman said we needed a fan for the fridge motor, that's why the center post was hot, said one of the blades had fallen off and he re-attached it but said we needed a new fan, and a valve to stop the leak at the bottom. This was on Monday, the next visit was not until Saturday (I don't see why it takes so long ...More to get parts).
Well on Wednesday the fridge stops cooling and everything in the fridge goes bad and has to be tossed out. I figure we got an appointment Saturday, no sense in calling now, he'll fix it Saturday. Saturday comes, he takes a look at it and tells me my compressor is kaput, my fridge is a big paper-weight. Not worth it to fix, I'll have to get a new one. So I'm having all this anxiety, thinking, if you'd have come back the next day and fixed it, it would be working now and I wouldn't have to buy a $1500 + fridge now.
Luckily though he gave me the number of a guy who does "closed systems" in other words compressors, he said if it's fixable, this guy would know. So I call " " (that's all the company info I got" and it's a wrong #, so I call and ask them if they have a correct # for " " which they do, it was off by one digit.
So I call aka "The Appliance Specialist" one of the few guys in the region certified to work on "Closed Systems" and he calls me back quickly, says will be over in an hour and a half, an hour later he arrives. Takes a look, says good news, not the compressor but the switch that turns the compressor on. And concurs it's the valve causing the leak.
So he replaces the switch, replaces the valve, found an additional leak in the water line, and fixed that as well, and got my very expensive fridge up and running in about an hour. No ordering parts, (Including the fan, was able to fix it properly without having to replace that part) no additional visits needed. Cost was $450 but compared to $1500 + for a new fridge I got off easy. And get this, on Monday he actually called me to ask if my fridge is working ok! It was, but I really appreciated the follow up phone call, that just floored me!
So gets a C-, " " The Appliance Specialist" gets an A++

I was originally pleased with my experience with . The tech came and replaced the part that the washing machine error code told us needed to be replaced. The tech left and the washer was draining correctly, so the issue we called for service was fixed quickly and for a reasonable price. The problem with this service provider ...More started a couple days later. The day the problem was found was a heavy laundry day in my house so the washer was running non-stop. I didn’t notice water in the seams of our hardwood floors until that evening when my husband saw the boards beginning to raise and separate. We stopped running the washer at that point. Later that night I was in the basement and realized the water that was leaking from my washer had run into my basement, soaking the carpet and damaging the drywall and paint in the rooms directly below the laundry closet. At the top of the wall the paint was bubbled and there were raised water running down the wall.

I called the next morning and let them know that the washer appeared to be leaking water, causing damage to my hardwood floors and basement. The same tech that fixed the washer came to check it out later that afternoon. He inspected and found that there was a small hole in the drain hose that runs from the tub to the pump. My husband asked how would be taking care of the damage to our home, the tech advised it’s not ’s problem to fix, at which point heated words were said and the tech left the house. I called the office to schedule for the hose to be replaced and briefly discussed the interaction with my husband and the tech, but the response I received was that the tech said the damage was not caused by him, and that was pretty much that. After fuming about it over the weekend, my husband and I decided to replace the hose ourselves. I called to let the office know we would not need their services. There was no mention of discussing the damage at that time, and still not to this day. My credit card was charged a few days later for the drain pump repair service – there was no attempt to discuss our issue or attempt to resolve. I was disappointed in that because I know they have resolved other customer concerns in the past so I had hoped they would reach out. This is the reason I have waited so long to submit this review. They have not been back nor will they be back to do any repairs for us. We are in the process of getting estimates to repair the damage to our home but do not intend to take action against because we cannot prove the fault of this leak was theirs, even though we believe they are most likely responsible for the leak that to the damage. Our reasons for this conclusion: 1 – There was not a leak before the pump was replaced, we use our washer almost every day and would have definitely noticed the amount of water leaking from the washer prior to the drain pump malfunctioning. Heavy laundry days in my home are not uncommon. I know when issues arise, they sometimes arise suddenly and without warning, but this was too much of a coincidence for us to assume this is just unfortunate timing. 2 - The tech spent no more than 20 minutes in my house replacing the pump. He started the washer and once the drain cycle kicked on he left, which I believe was the ‘test’ that is noted on my invoice. He seemed to be in a hurry. His elementary-aged son was with him that day (which was fine with me at the time) so that paired with hurrying makes me think that impacted the level of quality in his work. If he accidentally punctured the hose he might not have noticed at that time.

Service window was scheduled between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Called me about 2:10 pm and arrived at about 2:40 pm which was totally acceptable to me. Entire service was about 90 minutes. Very personable technician and good people skills with good cleanup after the work was done.
