Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
is a very professional landscape designer. He came over for the initial visit and was very attentive to our desires. He took what we wanted to do and added some of his own ideas to make the design all the more beautiful and efficient. He gave us detailed plans and a book of plant pictures about a week after our initial meeting. The package was very professional and gave us a very good idea of what the landscaping would look like. He came over to answer all of our questions and we gave him the go ahead. His team showed up promptly at 8am on the morning he said they would and got right to work. The project took about 2 weeks all-in but that was more due to scheduling the various drop-offs (including the huge rocks), the Front Walk guy and the electrician. Each of his sub-contractors were professional as well. We were very satisfied with his work and thankful that he was so attentive to our needs. He is very detailed and never once forgot to do anything we asked. And he was always on-site when the 'creative' work was being done. I couldn't recommend him more.

After interviewing 3 different landscape design companies, we chose Stout Design Build to do a complete makeover of our entire front and backyard. We are extremely thrilled with the results and our space has been transformed. Our designer
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
Fladd,
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
Stout and his entire crew did an amazing job.
I have read some comments about the design consultation fee, but we felt it was worth the cost. We didn't see it as a fee just to get an estimate. It was an actual design session where our designer gave us useful tips and design advice specifically for our space. We could have taken those tips and implemented them ourselves, but we liked her ideas so much we hired them to create our landscape design and implement it.
I really value the fact that their design and process is eco-friendly. Our new plants our drought tolerant with drip irrigation, they use

to capture

and water run-off, and our sprinkler heads are low water rotators. When they removed large bushes from our property, they dug them up carefully and put them in pots so I could give them away on Craigslist. They also reused wood scraps from the deck they removed to create molds for new concrete steps and pavers.
Like any construction project there were a few bumps along the way, but they resolved them quickly and made it right. They care about the quality of their work and want to make their customers happy. We still have more work to do on our front yard (phase 2 of our project) and won’t hesitate to hire them again.

I'll start with the reasons we wouldn't use them again....
1) The pricing is outrageously expensive for what is installed. For instance, the sprinkler controller is an inexpensive, plastic box that retails for $90. We were charged $450 by
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
. There was an existing sprinkler controller, so wiring, and an outlet already existed. All the pricing was similarly bloated. When I received the bid, I questioned the pricing, and was told that the quality of the work and the quality of the products is worth the price and there could be no possible way to reduce the price. We went ahead thinking it would be high quality, unique products, however, it was all off the shelf, very pedestrian stuff for ridiculously marked up prices. Another example of the pricing bloat, they charged us $150 to remove house numbers they were going to reuse. They told us the old house numbers were somewhat corroded and could be replaced. We purchased new numbers, and they proposed charging us $400 to install new house numbers. We refused to pay that. It was explained that part of that fee was for
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
's time to visit the site to tell them where to put the numbers. I told them where to put the numbers and we saved that ridiculous charge. I really felt they viewed us as an ATM. We remodeled our entire house and the contractor's pricing was cost plus 15%.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
and
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
's model seems to be cost plus 200-400%...that's quite excessive. However, I doubt they have a model.
2) The final invoice ended up overcharging us by over $1,000!
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
and
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
's response was basically...oops, sorry for overcharging you by more than the grand theft threshold in the state of California. If you use them, be sure to watch your final invoice for items included, but not performed. Also, when they did a plant accounting, at our request, even using their prices, they had overcharged us by several hundred dollars for plants they hadn't planted. They weren't going to make an adjustment until we pointed it out. They were fine with the overcharge. Again...clients=ATM.
3) The plantings are very underwhelming and the overall design is "nice". If you want "nice" for $35,000, you'll get it with
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
. If you want some "Wow" factor...best to look elsewhere.
4) Their record keeping is atrocious. Their bookkeeper didn't record a payment and was going to re-charge us for it.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
lost the check we gave her for the original design and sent us a panic e-mail in December that they needed it re-issued by the end of the year for accounting purposes. We re-issued the check. In May of the following year, she found the original check in a file.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
said they had had a bookkeeper who had embezzled from them, and I felt that we were paying, literally, for that error.
5) There is an excuse/rebuttal to any suggestion. Usually, it's that's what the drawing shows or that's what the estimate calls for or we're a small company and can't do everything. Of course if it's something they said they were going to do, and aren't, it's because they "forgot" to put it in the estimate. An example of this was on day one (I was already unhappy with the whole pricing inflexibility, but was ready to just leave that behind and get on with the job), we get home and find out that the
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
they agreed to fix when we were talking about the job, and they said would be easy to do...would require a permit AND re-bidding the job! We said they had said it would be easy to fix, it turns out it would be, but now they tell us it's the city's property and to fix it might cause problems. We said but the job was bid with this in it, no, they "forgot" to include that in estimate so it's not really there. There were many frustrations like this.
Now I'll get to the why we would use them again....
We would never use a contractor that attempts to steal over $1,000 through sloppy practices, deception, or dishonesty. We don't know why they over billed us, but it's not something that should have occurred if anyone at
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
cared about their clients' welfare and money. They don't. They're very "nice", and because of that, hope you'll just trust them, and pay without paying attention. don't do it.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
stated in an e-mail that we had treated them from day one like the glass is half empty. That was true.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
was inflexible on the pricing and insisted it was dead on and couldn't be lower. I felt that the job was overpriced and therefore the glass was half empty and it was their job to turn that around and make me believe the job was fairly priced and view the glass as completely full. By the end of the job, I realized half empty was too much by half.
I felt financially used by this job.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
and
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
made a killing and laughed all the way to the bank. don't let them do the same to you. Their work isn't as unique as they think, and certainly doesn't support the prices they charge.

I first hired
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
Surgeon & Landscaping in June 2014 to do a major tree cutting on some huge ficus trees. This project required a truck with a boom, another truck with a large wood-chipper, and an experienced crew capable of cutting big trees so close to my house.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
surpassed my expectations in every way, and I was thrilled with the outcome.
When Mr.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
and I discussed additional projects, I was really impressed with his knowledge, and willingness to help me with free advice and without any sales pitch. So I hired the company again in
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
for a large landscaping project, which included: A new automatic sprinkler system, replacing the front lawn and parkway grass with sod, replacing old shrubs with planting of new flowers, trees, and shrubs, and root pruning ficus trees and replacing the sidewalk destroyed by the roots.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
finished the project on time and on budget. I couldn't be happier with the results! Mr.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
takes genuine pride in his work, does not look for shortcuts, and does what he promises to do. He is driven by customer satisfaction. I look forward to working with Mr.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
again, and recommend him wholeheartedly!

I contacted
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
through the 'contact this provider' option on Angie's List and he got back to me via phone. We scheduled an estimate right away and he was thorough and gave good ideas. The work was scheduled for a couple days later. The crew completed the work in less than a day and I was very happy with the results, it was a lot of work done quickly and it looked great. I now use
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
for weekly maintenance which costs $150 per month.

In the end we decided to hold off on doing this work due to cost, but
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
and the folks at
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
were responsive, and helpful.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
was punctual on the day of our meeting, listened to what we were looking to do, offerred some suggestions in places where we really weren't sure how to proceed.
We were sent a proposal for the work the next day and since it was more than we were hoping to spend I asked whether we could talk further about some other routes we could take (not removing all the DG, doing irrigation for the lawn and the trees but not the garden, etc) and
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
was helpful in that regard as well.
At the end of the day my wife and decided we could live with things as they were for a while and wait till we felt more comfortable spending the money. That said, when/if we do decide to tackle the backyard, we'd certainly consider calling
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
again.

Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
replied right away when I called and scheduled a time on the weekend for him to come clear the front lot. He showed up on time as we agreed to and began work right away. He finished in a reasonable time and even did a little extra work around the front yard. He cleaned up after himself too. All in all he did a great job and for a good price. I would definitely hire him again or recommend him to a friend.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
was very professional on the phone and in person; and has very helpful advice for his customers.

Fantastic, beyond my expectations, I typically don't write reviews, as I'm not an easy customer to please.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
with Smartyards is professional and top notch on how everything was done with this job. I would highly recommend.

I made an appointment with Mr.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
approximately five days prior to the appointment. Mr.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
cancelled the appointment less than two hours prior to our appointment and said he was on his way to meet me but discovered my home was outside of his service area. This was so unprofessional since he had plenty of time to Google the address to determine if he could accept the job. Yet, he chose to navigate the map for my address a couple of hours before the appointment only to cancel at that time. I left work early to make the appointment. He was very arrogant when I called to discuss this issue with him, and said something to the effect that he has to run a business and in doing so determine if the distance is doable. I understand but you don't make this determination shortly before the appointment. I suggest Customer Service 101 for Mr.
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
. He may be a good landscapist but his professional etiquette stinks -- maybe its the overwhelming odor of fertilizer that tainted his actions on this experience!

I have been using them for years. Unfortunately, the original owner,
Los Angeles Landscapers Provider Name Locked
, passed away last year. However, his crew showed up and did an excellent job, as they had in prior years. Price is also fair
