"Very happy we chose Classic. I had so much going on from garage door installation to outside work. To say the least my house was chaos in numbers. The team worked" straight through and completed all of my bathrooms on time and with out complaint! I am very happy with the work and will not hesitate to call them again.

"Shlomi remodeled our garage and bathroom. We were able to get everything we needed in the price range that we assigned. No issues happened during the remodeling" and shlomi is nice person to deal with. He always answered for our questions and phone calls. we will definitely use him in the future. Our garage project was to cover all the walls with drywall, Add paint, light fixture and paint floor. The bathroom in the other hand included paint, new floor, bath tub and plumbing fixtures. the work was completed within 1 month or so and it came our great.

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

When my tenant of 7 years moved out, I wanted to finally remove the horrible bathtub and dated tile in the bathroom and put in a step in shower with sliding glass doors. The bathroom itself is very small and the tub with shower curtain made the room feel cramped and not elegant and I knew would hold me back from asking the rent that I wanted to get when I put it back on the
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
. Additionally, there was a full-sized window in the shower that was perfect when the house was constructed in 1926, but had become an eyesore and a maintenance problem. I had always fantasized about having it removed. As a female landlord, it's common for me to be treated like I'm an idiot by contractors when it comes to projects like this, and, true to form, the numerous contractors I spoke to about the project all lived up to my past experiences, eyeballing the project in a superior manner and quoting me horrendous prices. Except Asaf. He came to the house twice to talk to me about what he could do and showed me pictures of many other projects he's done in older houses like mine that looked spectacular, and treated me like I have both a brain and a vision of what I wanted the end result would be. He let me have full control over the colors and materials and gave me the timeframe of when I needed to have all the materials ready to go in. And then he made it happen. His crew showed up everyday when they said they would and within 10 days that horrible tub was gone, the new shower took shape, was hot mopped and sealed and then the tile went it. The window disappeared and in its place a structure was built to make the wall look as if there was never a window there at all. Asaf was spectacular to work with. He helped me select some accent materials that upgraded the tile to look really nice without exceeding the
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and character of the rest of the apartment. He was very responsive as small considerations developed throughout the process and questions arose. His guys kept the site clean and were friendly and welcoming when I came by to look at the progress - I really looked forward to seeing the changes develop every day. The resulting shower far exceeded what I had originally envisioned and as a result, I'm having Asaf and Regal replace the countertops and tile work in the kitchen, with tile accents to match the accents in the bathroom and tie all of the updates together. Many thanks to Regal for their amazing work, great team and creating a shower that not only allows me to get more rent for the apartment, but enhances the value of the house and extends it's life.

The quality of the work that they did was good, but we did have to have them come back a couple of times to redo or finish work. We had them come back to fix the threshold moldings that weren't finished. They also did our laminate floor and the planks ending up gapping, and while they came back to fix it it’s still happening. There were some trim items that were left unfinished and we've had a couple of lighting issues in the backyard. They had to re-stain the cabinets a couple of times because we wanted a specific stain and while it didn't turn out the color we wanted we were happy with it. The project manager was fair and accommodating and he was a pleasure to work with. He was responsive to our needs and while he was great I felt that I shouldn't have had to call in to have some stuff redone or finished.

First off, a little primer on Contractors in general is in order. Your Contractor, in almost all cases, will not be swinging the hammer or even lifting one. He is the project Coordinator. He lines up and schedules the subs and, hopefully, stays on top of them to ensure that the project gets completed sometime within the window of time and money promised. That said, you will go over time, you will go over budget and you will end up working as a sub Foreman for your Contractor as he will call or text you to see if a certain sub actually bothered to show up on the day promised. All that being true, Avi and
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
did a fantastic job and delivered a beautiful kitchen once all the dust settled. There will be times when you hate the process intently and will ask yourself why in God's name did you even consider doing this and you will project this onto your Contractor. That is part of the reason you are paying him. What is undeniable about FInesse is the quality of their subs. The work was impeccable, be it painting, tile work or plumbing. Another important point to be aware of with a remodel: you will have to figure out what you want before starting the project down to the nitty gritty details. The clearer the idea and vision you have, the better the end result. There are things you have to take care of and order for yourself. The cabinet hardware for instance. If you find some great hardware online, order it before you begin the job and make sure it arrives before you begin the job. Same thing with tile or anything else that is "special" as you do not want to do anything to slow down the process. Subs not being able to show up because material you ordered failed to arrive is something you want to avoid at all costs because you should never be the bottleneck on your own remodel and you
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
the ability to blame the Contractor for a slowdown if they can't install because you failed to anticipate a lead time.
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
delivered a beautiful kitchen with the least amount of grief possible. We will use them as soon as we have refilled the coffers to the level that we can afford the bathroom.

This is an odd review -- we were VERY happy with the final "product", but were extremely frustrated with the process.
We have a lovely kitchen--*please keep that in mind as you read the rest of the review.*
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
's price was also very competitive (well, we think anyway - this is our first kitchen remodel). So if price and the final result are all that matters to you, I would recommend
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
. for your kitchen renovation.
I also want to emphasize that our project appeared to be occur during a very busy time for
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
. That fact, coupled with the fact that
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
said several times that we were getting a great price (meaning that maybe we weren't quite as high a priority as other larger or higher-paying projects), may have made our situation unusual. I don't know.
That said, here are the issues we had (along with recommendations to mitigate them, if you engage
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
):
--
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
(the head contractor) is a very nice guy; however we had MAJOR issues with basic communication throughout our engagement. On nine (!) different days, we did not get any notification that scheduled work had been canceled. This does not include numerous other days when workers were several hours late for scheduled work. While we certainly understand that some scheduling issues are bound to occur over a lengthy project, our issues seemed quite extreme, and
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
's inability to communicate when work had been canceled turned into an increasingly costly aggravation. (there were numerous days when we unnecessarily put our dog at the kennel, or passed on paying consulting work engagements ourselves, only to find that scheduled work had been canceled...*without* any notice from
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
.) As absurd as it may sound, we painstakingly tried several times to explain to him why contacting a customer when work is canceled is an essential and basic professional courtesy...but despite this, this communication issue was pervasive throughout the project. That all said, if you work with
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, try to stipulate some sort of penalty in the contract for an excessive number of incidents where scheduled work is canceled, and no timely notification of the cancellation is provided. (I'm not suggesting you be a jerk about this -- again, some scheduling snafus are bound to happen in a large project, so I'm not suggesting you blast
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
if a worker is a couple of hours late every once in a while-- but you *should* make sure to protect yourself in the contract against this becoming a truly egregious and costly issue, as it did with our project).
-- Another recommendation if working with
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
: actively contact
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
the night prior to any scheduled work to confirm that workers will in fact be on-site.
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
has definite strengths but communication does not appear to be one of them--plus his workers' schedules appear to be in constant flux--so you have to make sure to be constantly reaching out to him to verify that agreed-upon schedules remain valid.
--If you engage
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
for a project, understand that
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
may go long stretches when he is not on-site, and during those times you will essentially be responsible for directing and managing his workers and subcontractors. In our case,
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was frequently present during the demolition and initial stages of the project; however when the 'meat' of the project was complete, it was not uncommon for workers to show up and not know what their assigned work was. In some cases, workers would show up without necessary tools or equipment, and would simply say they would come back the next day (which is particularly frustrating if you are rearranging your schedule to meet them.) You may communicate in detail to
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
what work is required, but he more often than not will dispatch his worker without all the associated instructions, so you are left to direct him (since
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is often not on-site). This makes it paramount that you actually be on-site when any work is taking place, since planned work may not get done if you are not around to direct the subcontractor. Ultimately
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is more of a middle man/traffic cop than an actual on-site manager of his work teams -- he will get you connected with subcontractors (some of them excellent, like his cabinet subcontractor!)...but you are often left to manage them.
--Go through the
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
contract *extremely* carefully and add more specific line items to the contract as necessary. e.g, don't ask verbal, general questions like "are materials covered?" (he'll say they are); rather, ask specifically "is paint covered? costs to replace baseboards and trim and crown?" etc. The trick here is that he'll say up front that he he'll cover materials and he won't add any 'gotcha' expenses at the end...however the reality is that things stated loosely at the front end of a project can and will bite you at the end of it. In our case, this was in spite of the fact that
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
explicitly stated at the front end of the project that "there will be NO surprises" (he said this numerous times as a way to differentiate himself from other contractors), and the fact that we explicitly requested several times that *any work that represents an increase to the overall cost to the project should be identified and presented to the customer BEFORE the work is done*. (In
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
's defense, I don't think this is necessarily atypical in the contracting world).
--In fact I would recommend that the following language be placed into the contract: any additional work that will add to the project cost--as identified in the contract--will NOT be done without explicit consent from the customer. In our case,
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
arrived at the final meeting with approximately $2000 in additional costs for work that we thought was largely part of the original contract. I should emphasize that there WAS additional work done -- for example, and additional
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was done, and under cabinet lighting was installed -- but we were genuinely baffled by the total extra. Note that our issue was not with the additional costs per
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, but rather with the fact that there was no communication that these additional costs were being added until the end of the project--again, this was emblematic of a basic communication issue that plagued us. If either you or
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
suggest work outside the contract terms, make sure to 1) understand the specific cost involved and 2) get that cost in WRITING.
Unfortunately our final meeting with
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
went poorly as we argued over extra costs that easily could have been discussed earlier. In the end we wound up paying about $1000 more than we'd expected -- while this wasn't a huge sum, we were far more irked by the manner in which it was brought to our attention, rather than the extra actual money paid.
--One final note -- and this may have to do with contracting in general rather than with
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
specifically -- as the project winds down and mostly smaller aspects of the project or detail work is left, be proactive in trying to get the work consolidated into a few days, rather than having it spread out piecemeal over a lengthy stretch. In our case, I believe we had 8 total days of man hours' work done after November 5th -- and the project finished on February 6th. I should emphasize, we had a working kitchen for most of that time...it's just that it's far less disruptive to get a full day of workers' time, rather than an hour here and an hour there spread over numerous days.
*****************
Having said all of that, let me reiterate: we have a lovely kitchen, and as far as we can tell it was at a good price. As stated before, some of the issues may have been anomalous, if
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was in fact unusually busy during that time frame.
The bottom line is that I'd recommend
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
*if* you are willing to put in some consistent (and potentially significant) extra work -- both with basic communication challenges with
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, and with potentially doing more management of subcontractors than you might expect. I would also be *extremely* diligent on getting the language of the contract edited so that it contain some basic ground rules IN WRITING regarding 1) communication on cancellations of scheduled work, and 2) the manner in which costs can be added to the project (i.e., never without explicit consent from the customer). I should add, if you and your significant other are both working, and the communication/scheduling challenges with
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
that we experienced are more the
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
than the exception, you may find engaging
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
for a project to be very difficult. (We were fortunate to be home for a good percentage of the project -- for a working couple, the high percentage of no-shows for scheduled contracting work would lead to an unacceptable number of wasted leave days .)
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
argued repeatedly in our final conversation that the bottom line is that we have a lovely kitchen, at a good price. If you're someone to whom the end result is all-important -- and the way you actually *get* to that end result is not as important-- than
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
may be a great fit for you.
Personally I am hopeful that the communication and professionalism issues we experienced were an outlier, and that we simply had some bad luck or bad timing with
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
.
And even if that's not the case, as
Los Angeles Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
says we still do have a great kitchen! Long after our aggravation at some of the project issues have faded, the kitchen will still be fantastic...certainly that has to count for something.

The project took longer than expected, however that was do in part to issues with the company that supplied the fixtures. They did not ship on time and when they did ship, parts were missing.
