woods in our new house. He patiently put out color samples on the floor, and intelligently participated in the conversation to figure out what would work best.
Pine floors are uncommon in LA, and took the stain differently from the more common and workable oak. At first it gave
His employees were skilled and efficient. Work was completed in exactly the time he planned. At the end of the job he addressed a couple of areas that didn't come out as we all would have liked (not due to the work, but because of the unpredictability of these old floors).
Honest, thorough, and dedicated to his work. You can't do better.
The workers arrived on time and were pleasant, diligent and skillful. Plastic sheeting was placed on affected furniture, appliances and doorways. The repair was done with attention to blending wood segments for appearance and the refinishing was careful and detailed. After final sanding, all surfaces in the area were vacuumed but a thorough wiping of exposed surfaces was still needed in the following days.
The kitchen, laundry area and repaired areas received three coats of clear urethane, together with a hand sanding between the second and third coats. At the conclusion the kitchen looked as new and the repaired areas blended well. The work was completed in two full days by three workers.
The equipment needed for this type of work requires 240 volts, available at the input of the main electrical panel. In the evening after the first day’s work, the garage was dark when it should have had lights and the house surge protection indicator light was off. Apparently, in the course of the work, my house surge protection circuit had been turned off but not restored on completion. In addition the GFI of my outdoor circuit was tripped. Both problems were easily solved but nobody knew anything about them the next day.
The crew that completed the work was very friendly and the floors came out nice...The only reason I didn't give them an A for professionalism is because my neighbor complained to me about them leaving trash (water bottles, wrappers, etc) lying around on the driveway (we share a driveway). I didn't understand why because there were visible, empty trash cans right next to the garage. I don't live on the property so my neighbor picked up after them.
The overall quality of the finished product was good. The only thing that I was disappointed with was the mess left behind. These guys don't do "dustless" sanding or if they do, their dust collection systems don't work very well so the clean up they left for me was extensive.
In the end I would and have recommend
He was super flexible with his schedule to accommodate the inconsistencies of other crews I had.
His follow-through is very professional. He came back to touch up places even after having been paid in full.
He and his crews went above and beyond the original work. He actively sought out areas that he could provide services.
He's the refreshing opposite of the typical shady, nickel-and-dime'
unapologetic about it. He washed the table tops with water and some kind of detergent, vacuumed the water off and wiped them down. He said that because the granite had previously been sealed (about 40 years ago, by the furniture manufacturer), he would have to grind the old sealant off before he could re-seal them, and he wanted $400 for that, and it would require another appointment.
The granite now is clean and looks just like it did before
Cleaning, yes. Sealing, no. A waste of money.
