"Speedy arrived on time, and on very short notice, after our call. First, they fixed the tub drain and found all sorts of gunk, in addition to our daughter's long hair, that didn't belong. Then, they inspected the tear in the ceiling. They immediately observed that the tear was not underneath the tub, but rather under the toilet, relative to our daughter's bathroom. Then, they pulled the toilet. It was immediately evident that the toilet was improperly installed, and that water had been leaking from within due to an improper seal between the drain pipe fittings and the bottom of the toilet. This lead to two issues: one, the toilet and the internal drainage fittings needed to be properly sealed to prevent further leaking; and two, the cause of the tear in the ceiling of the living room needed to be reassessed, and a definitive determination made as to cause. Speedy could have recommended any one of a number of solutions to both issues. As to the first issue, one proposed solution required much labor, grounding of tile, and basically pulling the entire drain fixture out to repair and replace it. Expensive, difficult, and a mess. The second solution, was simply to replace the sealant on the drain with a

plastic part costing a few dollars, and relatively little labor. Inexpensive, quick and neat. Speedy ultimately had the opportunity to recommend the more expensive solution, to which we would have agreed; but, they did not, and advised us of the cheaper solution and put that into effect. As to the tear issue, one solution was to cut a hole out of the ceiling, and to inspect the space above for water damage (and for mold, which became a concern because my wife and daughter recently developed unusual allergic symptoms to something we could not identify). Messy, time consuming, and expensive, but we would have agreed to this had they said so. Another solution was to evaluate the tear more closely, and actually check for signs of water damage. They chose to actually and honestly inspect the tear, and they readily concluded that there were no signs of water damage, even though the toilet leak happened to be situated above this area. Here again, they had an opportunity to

up the bill with extra work, but that was not the recommendation they made. They suggested the the cause was more likely house settling (to which we agree), and not water damage. Only a plumber has expertise in plumbing and water damage. When engaging a plumber, the customer has to rely on the honesty and expertise of the plumber to find the best solution for the customer, even though the plumber has the ability to magnify the problem and the solution and make more money with unnecessary repairs. Speedy, consistent with the other customer recommendations we read, chose the path of honesty and customer service. This is worth its weight in gold. "
