COMPLAINT: Janine Verschage, Las Vegas

"I took my car in to Las Vegas Carburetor Shop for a smog certificate. They said repairs needed to be done, which I approved. One item that needed replacing was the oxygen sensor switch, which caused the check engine light to come on.

"After having my car for almost three weeks, I showed up with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to get my car. I wrote them several post-dated checks so I could get my car. I took the car to the emissions control station at the Department of Motor Vehicles. My car failed their smog test.

"At the inspection, they said the oxygen sensor switch wasn't replaced. My check engine light is still on, plus the car smokes when I first start it up. I'm scared to call Las Vegas Carburetor Shop because they'll probably want to keep my car for another three weeks and charge me another $4,000!"

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I believe I was overcharged and want to be compensated for these charges, a new oxygen sensor and for pain and suffering."

"I've done my best to please the member. While the vehicle was in my shop for repairs, she was using a rental car, which my company paid for. We gave her a $500 discount on labor and a payment plan without interest to pay for the repairs. If any delays occurred, it was out of my control. The member owns a Daewoo, for which parts are very difficult and sometimes impossible to find. The repairs are completed and she's driving her car."

STATUS: Stalemate
