"Company was quick to arrive for estimate of installation and quick to return for installation. Equipment was installed quickly and effectively will little imposition" on daily life. Service was excellent and the equipment works exactly as advertised. All personnel involved in the process were friendly, courteous and professional at all times.

"I bought the Big Deal for water softener service as I thought a good deal. I had heard of the them so thought they would be good. They did not respond within 2" days like Big Deal requires (no 1). A few days later Angie's List asked me if I had been contacted and I said no so they advised they would contact them again (no. 2). A few days more and still nothing so Angie's List contacted them again (no. 3). Another week and no response, so I finally just asked for a refund. Very unprofessional and not up to an Angie's List recommended vendor status, in my opinion. Received a nasty call from the company today after I posted above. Advising that I should have called them and it was not their fault no one contacted me (how ridiculous). I paid for service in advance but I also needed to contact them, interesting. I did not appreciate him arguing with me for their failure, so simply hung up the phone. He called back and then further stated that I shouldn't be allow to be an Angie's List member either, can you believe that? One of the values of Angie's List to is share experience with fellow members. That's why I hung up on him, nonsense to blame customer. I've bought several big deals and have had great response and service from others. It's funny how they quickly called me when I provided an F grade, but claimed they never got any other notice. It's the same system guys! The correct response to a customer would be, 'hey we screwed up, we apologize, what can we do to fix the problem'. Customer Service 101. My hunch was the offer was too good so they ignored it, even though they promoted it. Buyer beware of this company! Look at these comments emailed to me from the owner of the company: " Your review is childish, rash, and irresponsible." "Your comments are ofdensive, slanderous and full of hate." "Your full are just a malcontent," "You are just rash." Can't seem to spell either, LOL. Does 'Me think thou do protest too much' apply here? Their true color has come out. My review was an honest statement of my experience. Accept responsibility and don't blame others, especially a customer. Thank goodness for this Angie's List review forum!

3 tips to select the best water treatment

Don't overpay for the wrong water treatment system. One highly rated provider offers some tips to help you choose the right system for your home.

Water Softeners

Even if your tap water comes from a reservoir, chances are it previously passed through underground caverns where it absorbed mineral deposits. Water with a high concentration of minerals is referred to as "hard" water. It's safe to drink but can harm your plumbing and appliances.

We all know the sound of a soda being opened — the fizz of trapped air escaping a tight, pressurized space.

What do you do when the water softener that came with your new house isn’t currently being used? How do you turn it on?

Do you really need a water hardness test to determine which softener to buy?

Angie's Answers

I actually just replaced my Pelican Natursoft "water softener" with an more-traditional ion exchange model.  I used the natursoft for a little over 4 years, and I can say it worked as advertised.  When remodeling a while back we decided to get a tankless water heater.  All the documentation indicated that hard water with the tankless heater is a no go.  We had to do somehting, but since I'm lazy (didn't want to deal with the salt or plumbing in a drain) and my wife didn't like soft water, the salt-free model looked attractive.  I too was somewhat skeptical, but the reviews I found looked good, and I know enough about the science of nucleation (I was a material science major in college) to know that what they said made sense, so I bought one.

One thing needs to be made clear - the natursoft system is NOT a water softener!  It contains a media which nucleates some disolved metalic salts out of solution.  These crystals, once formed, remain in the water, and still react with oils, detergents, etc. in the same manner as the disolved salts.  They also continue to form scale wherever water is allowed to evaporate, such as faucet nozels and shower heads. In fact, it's possible that evaporative scaling was even worse than before we installed the system.

Importantly, however, once in crystaline form, these salts do not stick to pipes, or in my case, heat-exchangers.  My tankless heater has a sensor to indicate when it needs to be descaled, and the manual indicates that for my water hardness and hot water use I should have had to descale approximately every 6 months.  In four years with the natursoft the descaleing indicator has never gone off.  For further evidence, when I installed my new softener a few weeks ago, I had to cut sections from the copper pipe on both the inlet and outlet side of the natursoft.  Both sections of pipe were installed at the same time as the natursoft, but while the pipe on the inlet side was green and rough on the inside, the outlet pipe looked and felt like new.

As such, if you want or need a salt-free system for some reason (low-sodium diet for blood pressure, don't like the feel of soft water, can't easily plumb a drain into the softener location, or can't carry heavy bags of salt to the softener), then I can unequivocably recommend the natursoft.  If, like my wife and I today, you want soft water, that feels soft on your skin, creates less soap scum, rinses cleaner in the dishwasher, etc., then the natursoft probably isn't for you.

I bought a home with a 9 year old Kinetico in it in 1989. With our family of 6 the Kinetico used 1/2 the salt of two other brands we owned in previous homes, even though the water was harder in the home with the Kinetico non-electric system. When I sold the home in 1993, the buyer insisted I leave them the Kinetico. I bought a new one for my new home, my family grew to 8 and now after 21 years, it has only needed one repair (new resin) 5 years ago.

To answer your question...Kinetico would be a "Mercedes" while others carry the "yugo's." Kinetico offers many models to meet the needs of all families. The single tank Essential unit works well in homes with no iron and 1 or 2 people. Like other single tank systems, it can't provide soft water to your home while it regenerates. However, the Essential only takes 15 minutes to regenerate where electric units might take hours from start to finish. It also carries a full 5 year warranty on all parts. Other systems typically exclude the most important parts after only 1-3 years. All single tank softener can and will occasionally run out of soft water. (laundry day)

The Twin resin tank Kinetico models have several advantages like...5 yr warranty on Signature and Premier models have a 10 year warranty on all parts. So with the twins, you get better water, have virtually unlimited capacity, use less salt, are quiet, use soft water to clean themselves, use no electricity, have no clocks, batteries or computers to ever repair or reset. Power outages & surges have no effect on them. Having a Kinetico sold me on their value. Ask your dealer about renting one, so you can try before you buy.

Water Softener Installation And Repair reviews in Kansas City

Excellent service, including pre-sale and post-installation information. came out on short notice on a Sunday to educate us about tankless systems and was incredibly generous with his time. He made sure we understood all the information about tankless systems and the water filtration system we were interested in. The crew arrived ...More the very next day for the installation. They were on time, friendly, helpful, careful and diligent. We made the changeover and were back up and running the same day. When finished, the crew cleaned up and made sure we fully understood how to operate the temperature controls on the Rinnai system and how to change filters in the filter system. The installation included a thorough cleaning of all faucet and shower heads to remove sediment and lime scale so that we'd be starting with a clean slate with our newly filtered water supply. followed up in the days after the installation to ensure everything was working fine and to answer any questions we had. Great experience. Expectations and promises were met, and we are very happy with the system. We had thought of tankless systems a number of years ago but didn't have confidence they were ready for prime time then. They are now and we are very happy with the system. Missouri Gas Energy provides an instant $200 rebate as well.

was very responsive (both via phone and email) when I called to get information about the system and a bid. The system was more expensive than I was expecting but he explained some of the differences between the system he was putting in and a big-boc store system and I decided to go ahead.
They said they'd be by ...More on the 12th to install the system and they called to confirm and showed up as expected. Unfortunately after put in the system we discovered that I had very strong water pressure and that was preventing the system from working properly. suggested I call the city to see if they had any way of adjusting the pressure - I guess some of the meters have this feature.
Dealing with the city is where this process got difficult. They were supposed to come out the next morning and didn't show and continued to not show until the afternoon of the 3rd day. However, kept in touch each day and even stopped by on the 13th to see what was happening since he'd been in the area. Long story short the city finally showed up and said they couldn't do anything. came by later that afternoon and installed a pressure regulator and got the system working. Getting the valve put in cost me an extra $170 I wasn't planning on spending, but I can't complain about the service at all.
Since then the system seems to be working fine and I'm enjoying my soft water.

This company is the most excellent company that I have seen and have worked on my house. and are just great. They go above and beyond and are very reasonably priced. came over and removed the old water softener and installed a water purifier and calcium remover. He is absolutely ...More the best.employee a company can have. takes care of the homeowner and makes sure that everything is correct and exactly the way the homeowner wants it to be. Believe me. Thanks and .
