Kansas City Plumbers Reviews
My main complaint is with the cost and the seeming subterfuge regarding pricing. When I first contacted the dispatcher in the evening, I did ask her about how much it would cost. She demurred citing that it would depend on the job. I understood that.
She stated that the technician would provide me with a quote and that I was free to reject it and hire somebody else. (Of course, when you have a plumber on site and you need the job done, it takes nerves of steel and a strong will to reject the service). I was also quoted two prices, $129 if they were to come that night after hours, and $59 for an appointment the next day. I don't recollect that she informed me that I had the option of staying home on standby at a cost of $39. So I made the appointment.
When the technician arrived I was provided with a sheet. On that sheet were five levels of pricing. There were standard rates and maintenance plan rates. The highest amount to pay would be $549. The lowest amount was $110. It costs $129 to remove the drywall. Repair of my issue was $209 for a total of $319. Remember, there is the service call fee on top of that, so prior to my Angie's List coupon for 15% the cost was $378.
I am aware that the price of a plumbing job depends on the repair. I am not disputing that some will be more than others. I AM disputing the reluctance to at least provide information related to the five levels of repair. What prevents the company from stating, "We have divided the pricing into five levels. The most expensive of these is $579. The least expensive is $129. What you will pay depends of the level of repair needed."? They have even trademarked this concept as "Straight Forward Pricing."
With the frigid weather and the drought, it's likely many people will need plumbing services. I recommend calling around ahead of time to get a ballpark figure. If the company cannot provide you with ANY information look elsewhere. Good businesses do not operate in darkness. Also note - this company is nationally franchised with corporate offices so losing your business or receiving a negative review will probably not matter to them.
I asked about a furnace, as mine is old, and the plumber began to complain about government regulation that would call for more efficient heating systems. I thought this inappropriate. For this, I would never call this company again.
