"Called to get an estimate for two retaining walls that needed to be rebuilt. Immediately scheduled an appointment to come out to my house the next day, but then he did not show up. I called to inquire the next day and he apologized and came out within a few hours. Said he would get me an estimate in a few days, two weeks later I had still not received any word. I even called again and spoke to him - he assured he would send the estimate but never received one. It shouldn't be this hard to hire someone! Finally gave up."

Revitalizing masonry and brick in a historic home

While searching for new homes, Brad Begle and his wife, Mary, instantly fell in love with the interior of a newly remodeled Victorian-era home in Lincoln Park. However, years of faulty repairs on the outside of the red-brick 1880s home had left the exterior in poor shape.

The Portland family wanted to add some unique outdoor elements to their new home. So they hired Matt Goddard of Poetry in Stone to install a path and a backyard seating area with a sunken fire pit.

"I contacted the company for estimates on repair as well as replacement. The estimates were provided quickly and completely, and electronically (I don't like paper). When we were ready to proceed, the company set a date. They actually started BEFORE the scheduled date, and completed the job ahead of schedule! Communication before and during the entire project was excellent. "

"We were satisfied with the finished result, but the process was difficult. They gave us a detailed bid and we had to insist on sticking to items on the original estimate. Communication with them was difficult. The owner was rarely there. The workmen were sloppy and left a huge mess after the work was done. Workers were going to the bathroom behind the house. Landscaping around the house was trampled and debris was left. Website said took cc but they ended up pressuring us to not use the credit card. They had to redo the work around the doorway because it wasn't done right as we insisted on that as well."
