"I did speak with
once at which point he suggested that they would provide me a proposal. I have never heard from them again. I have messaged him, called him," emailed him. no response. In the world of professionalism, a business owner simply calls a potential customer back or responds in some manner. It is only ethical to communicate the expectations.

"I was very impressed with the owner and his customer service. Do not have the money to have the driveway installed right now. Will utilize this company hopefully next summer.

"It was over a year ago that I originally contacted them to give me an estimate. At that time they were very prompt and the cost was reasonable. I followed up with many email questions" which they also replied to promptly. This year when I was finally ready to have the work done their response time was much slower at every step but I was in no hurry so it was ok. When they finally called to start the work the arrived when they said they would, answered all of my questions, did a good and fast job with the work and we are very pleased with the results (although it's only been two days).

If the state requires a contractor's license, then he needs to have a license in each state he intends to work in - plus state/local business licenses as applicable.

This does not mean there are not a lot of contractors who cross state lines without proper licensing - the penalties in may cases are not real severe and are just a fine, not criminal, so many take the chance.

As you say - argh  - many contractors are not really businessmen and have zero legal education, so many people get burned.

?

To overlay, with proper adhesion so it does not peel off, you first need to prepare the surface - typically heavy watercutting or sandblasting for concrete over concrete, or high-pressure presure washing and an asphalt (NOT water based cutback) adhesion coat before asphalt overlay.

Because of the prep cost, a concrete overlay commonly costs more than just tearingit out and replacing it, and if you are replacing it due to cracking and breaking up those cracks will almost always propogate or "reflect" through the new layer too with concrete. Ditto with asphalt overlay, though using a crack-stopper fabric can reduce (but usually not eliminate) that.

If just repairing ice melt/freeze thaw deterioration, a cementatious epoxy overlay can be used, though its life is less (normally) than new concrete. Usually used for limited areas like garage area pad, not entire driveways.

Asphalt overlays over somewhat deteriorated concrete can work well, but if not prepared and high-pressure (about 5000 psi or higher) cleaned to remove ALL deteriorated material, they can peel off because they stuck to deteriorated loose material rather than sound concrete. Again, can cost as much for a 1-1/2 to 2 inch overlay as for a 3-4 inch full replacement by the time you are done, because the prep work is labor intensive.

Even if this is just a surficial deterioration issue, I would talk to several contractors (site visit) about alternatives and let them bid both an overlay and a replacement (or whichever options they are inclined to bid on), then after getting opinions from all three and bids for all options, make your decision. I am pretty confident that total replacement will be both the most recommended and the cheapest, at probably about $2-4/SF for asphalt or 4-6/SF for concrete - commonly nearer the lower than higher range for most jobs and locales. If the overlay and replacement cost is pretty close,I would go with the replacement because overlays over concrete are always somewhat iffy as to how long they will last, especially concrete overlays.

For cost comparison, except in extreme freeze-thaw country, you can figure a concrete drive will last about twice as long as an asphalt one.

It went incredibly well.

is primarily a large commercial paving company who does residential work as fill-in to keep their crews busy. Eight people showed up at 8:00 AM. Complete with all of the proper equipment and did a magnificent job. They were like a swarm of bees all with assigned tasks. They performed efficiently without any standing around. During the entire process they asked appropriate questions and kept me informed of all their actions. They were completed and on their way in three hours. It was incredible work and service. I would recommend them to any one. I found them through my neighbor who had them redo his driveway the previous year. I was impressed with their work habits and final product so I hired them when the need arose.

I requested a bid from this company on 3 separate occasions. The owner scheduled to meet with me 3 separate times and failed to show each and every time. When he did finally show up to bid my job, it was unannounced and when I was having dinner. After bringing up my displeasure with his lack of communication which inconvenienced me, he became very rude, nasty, and abrasive. I decided to use another company as a result. Had he explained himself in regard to punctuality I may have been able to forgive and still do business with him. I cannot recommend this company at all due to unreliability and lack of professionalism.

They were prompt in their response to my call for an estimate, in providing the written estimate, and in completing the project. They were friendly and knowledgeable, and did a professional job. Their dedication to customer service and quality work is extraordinary. I've owned my home for 30 years and it's a treat to find a company that is as reputable as

removed the old, broken asphalt, graded the area, and laid 4 inches of hot mix asphalt (approx 17 square yards). The bid took a little long to receive but once the deal was signed the job was performed inside a week. A four man crew showed up at the appointed time on the appointed day and completed the job in 2 1/2 hours. Everyone was courteous and they did a good job of cleaning up before they left.

This was to be the first of a number of jobs I wanted done at rental property I own. It is vacant now, so this was a good time. Their office wasn't staffed because of medical leave for an employee. I left several messages over a number of days and eventually spoke to the owner. On sept 15 he made an appointment to meet me at the first place on sept 16, setting a time of 4-6 pm when he would come. I asked him to call me if his schedule changed. I let the neighbor know when he would be coming, since we would be splitting the cost. I waited at the rental property from 4 until 6:15 pm and he didn't show. He also hasn't called to explain why. This was a very frustrating experience.
