"After I closed on a house I walked into a surprise that the previous owners had a mat over a cracked and chipped tub ~ called for a free" estimate and scheduled him for a few weeks later. Showed up on time, preformed great work and the tub looks TONS better and so much cleaner! Thanks, !

-Brooke H.

"I contacted the owner and received a prompt call to set up an appointment. He came on time, detailed the service he would perform, and explained that he does NOT" recoat tubs. He actually cleans the original surface and restores it. As I had heard many complaints about tub recoatings failing around drains, chipping in corners, etc., I went with Superior. The owner arrived promptly for our appointment and went right to work. He sealed off the bathroom (I am sensitive to chemicals.) and there was no tell-tale odor outside that room (and not much in the bathroom). Before the restoration, the bottom of the tub was gray with 87 years of grunginess. After this service, it was pure white and looked brand new, and the slip-proof surface makes it safe. I would definitely use this service again. The price is fair and the owner does exactly what he says he will do in the amount of time he predicted. He was professional, worked efficiently, and was careful of everything in the bathroom. I would tell potential customers that this company will definitely do the job promised, but you should know the following: 1) I love the finish on my tub, but it is not a super shiny surface like those on acrylic bathtubs. It has a nice to it, is perfectly clean, but it doesn't have the glistening fake look of polymers. 2) You have to treat your restored bathtub with more care than you would another metal tub. (No abrasive cleaners like Comet, etc.) However, if you have a tub recoated, you have to use the same care and then run the risk that the coating will buckle, chip, or peel. There is no such worry with the process Superior uses. I absolutely love my "new" old 87-year-old bathtub, and to be honest, this was the best $350 I've ever spent on a home project. If ever I need another tub redone, I'll have it restored by Superior, and I'll refer friends to this company as well.

bathtub refinishing

Bathtub Liners and Refinishing

Over time, the bathtub can begin to show signs of wear with stains, scratches, a dull finish or other ugly marks. Bathtub refinishing is an option that can return a bathtub or shower enclosure to like-new appearance.

Dear Angie: We're remodeling our bathroom. Which is better to help increase the resale value of our home: a tub, a shower and one sink; or a big shower and two sinks? – Cal Z., Lakewood, OH

Refinishing your bathtub instead of replacing it can freshen up your bathroom and save you money.

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

Bathtub Refinishing reviews in Kansas City

The sinks are set in a tile covered cabinet, so replacing them would have meant replacing the cabinet entirely. explained what he would have to do to repair the surface and how the urethane would work. He carefully covered areas around the work and completed the job in two visits. As part of the project, ...More he replaced the water lines to one sink. Everything was cleaned up and the sinks and tub look very good. He has been in business for a long time and guarantees his work. We would recommend him to others needing similar service.

Great experience from start to finish. I spoke with over the phone and explained what we had going on with our shower. He understood immediately and gave me a quote right over the phone. He called when he was on his way, as promised, and was right on time. The results are amazing. I wish I would have taken a "before" ...More picture. I'm not sure if it was 11 years of using Tilex, or too abrasive of a scrubber, or just what, but the shower in our master bath had become stained and there was nothing I could do to get it clean - I tried every trick I could find on do-it-yourself websites. resurfaced the and removed and replaced the old caulk between the and the tile wall. It looks like a shiny, new shower. I'm thoroughly impressed and so glad that I called him. He was super nice, explained the processs that he was going to use, and was done in a little over an hour. That was money very well spent and I would gladly refer him to anyone.

was an outstanding professional. He took care to cover our wood floors offered to wear booties and taped everything up prior to starting. The whole process takes 6 1/2 hrs and the result is oustanding. Our tub went from a faded offwhite bluish gray with nicks and rust to a shining white beauty. He even warranties his finish ...More for 10 years.
One thing to note if you are going to re-tile your tub surround you must do this first before the tub itself. We wanted to do the second tub in our house but he recommended we wait until we re-tile it for a better outcome.

In short, it went GREAT! called me back to set up a time and gave me a rough estimate, based on the information that I gave him over the phone. He cautioned me that the amount could vary once he saw the actual job. We agreed to make it a detailed estimate and work visit -- he would provide a detailed estimate and if it was ...More agreeable he would do the work right then. He arrived right on time, even called when he was on the way. Was very courteous and pleasant, our dogs even liked him. We reviewed the tub and enclosure and he provided a written estimate. He also walked through what he observed and the work that would be done. He also had before and after pictures of other work so we could get a better idea. Once approved he got right to work. When he got ready to color seal the grout he came and got us to check the color. Our tile and grout are slightly off-white, so he had added a bit of ivory to the standard white sealer. The sample area looked great, so he proceeded. When done, all the discolored (including some black "yuck") grout along with the old discolored and wrinkled caulk were gone. Replaced with clean, sealed grout and gleaming white, clean caulk. It looked like it did 9 1/2 years ago when it was new! also took the time to talk about how to keep it looking good longer and inform us of the 24-hour curing time. We gave it an extra 48 hours and just used the guest bath shower. It almost looked too nice to use. The entire job took about 3 1/2 hours, including the estimate, tearing out the old caulk, cleaning and sealing the grout, putting in new caulk, and cleanup. Not bad to get from "old worn" to "new". We are very pleased with the work. In the future we know who to call and would highly recommend the work to friends.

Only issue was punctuality. However the level of work certainly made that irrelevant. tub was stripped and resurfaced. I can find nothing wrong at all. The gentleman who worked on the tub was very detail oriented and very well spoken and took care to protect us from any harmful fumes. with an old house we have had to do many things over ...More the years to maintain or replace old fixtures! plumbing etc. I am not accustomed to the level of service and pleasant demeanor that this gentleman supplied. he was late, but stayed until after 7 to make sure fumes were gone. he did not rush the job and therefore it was perfect. matched the color exactly. It was worth staying home all day!
- Laura H.

Fantastic job all around. They arrived on time, were clean and orderly, picked up all the debris and left on time too.
A1 job!
- Bo and Tracy M.

The service was prompt, efficient and the process/expected outcome was explained very well. The results were very good. If you are expecting a shiny smooth surface afterwards, this may not be the way to go. But, if you want a nice looking slip resistant result, you won't be disappointed.
- Lisa M.

The owner came on Saturday to look it over, and sent his on Sunday to do the job, shich he did promptly and cheerfully. He did a great job of cleaning up too. I was reluctant to take him up on a Sunday job, but there was no extra charge, and it fit everyone's schedule. I would definitely use them again.
