They were very eager to please and did exactly what I requested. Unfortunately, the first lens was broken. They came back the next day and replaced it at no additional charge. Very polite and professional. I highly recommend them.

and his associate did an outstanding job of replacing our fence and gate. Initially, I was hesitant to use anyone but a fencing company to do the work but
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
worked with us to give us more choices and help us make a more informed choice at a more reasonable price. He talked about the different types of fencing we could use and which would be best for our job. We have had the same fence replaced several times in the last 10 years as the posts kept rotting.
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was the first to identify the cause of this - a neighbor's a/c drainage pipe flooding the fence posts and even worked with the neighbor to fix it. We are very happy with our new fence and gate. It is solid and well-constructed. The work was done on schedule and budget.

was very good to work with.

We believe this might have been a more difficult job than any of us realized going into it. Walls required a considerable amount of smoothing and repair. Ed was professional and willing, and he worked his buns off. But perhaps he was only minimally experienced in this particular type of wall work. He completed the job but without finesse or a finished look. Homeowners worked on it for another week before we were able to paint. Ed left for over an hour to have lunch and to purchase more plaster at Home Depot, which is 5 minutes from our home. He included his lunch break as part of his work time. Near the day's end, when he thought he'd completed his contract, I had to remind him that he still owed us an hour more (not even counting the lunch break, which we didn't mention.) He good-naturedly agreed to stay on for a couple of un-related tasks, which he did well. Before I purchased his services through Angie's List, I described the job to him and asked if this was something he felt comfortable doing. He said he did, so I bought the Special. My suggestion to Ed is to always connect with his customer a day ahead of time, to confirm everything for peace of mind. He had been unreachable (by me) the day before the job; however, he showed up on time the next morning. I would also suggest to Ed, who is quite a young man, that he only take on jobs with which he has ample experience. He is the kind of person with whom I like to do business -- energetic, conscientious, hard-working, professionally dressed. Ed is all of those, but he needs more maturity as a professional. I am ambivalent about whether to hire him again, but I suspect he would do very well with tasks that suit his comfort level.

There are pros and cons.
Pros:
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
, whose wife is listed as the owner of the company, is a gregarious man who is easy to work with, when he is on site and working. He did indeed return after the job was deemed complete, after a few re-scheduling efforts, to do whatever he could to fix cosmetic issues.
Cons:
The scheduling of work and punctuality. From the outset of his work, we never knew where he would be. We had told him in advance that we were leaving on a long trip beginning May 29th and wanted the work complete before leaving. He always assured us heartily that it would be no trouble getting all work complete within the two weeks of the agreed upon beginning date.
The first day of work, he arrived very late, then informed us that he had to leave by 3:30 every afternoon that week because this was not his full-time job; he also coached a football team and was needed elsewhere that week. He assured us that he had part-time help that would step in to fill the gap. A couple days a fireman came in on his off hours to work on the tile work, but achieved very little. He clearly was not that experienced with this kind of work.
Throughout the project
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
would disappear without notice. I was always calling him, often only able to leave a message on his cell phone. He was off working on other projects that he had not completed due to underestimating the time required to do that work. His wife, and an assistant at the office, would always sound like displeased mothers who would take care of their wayward boy and that all would be fine after that, so I should not worry.
Even when he agreed to come back after we had returned from our trip, he would not show up, and we would have to call him to ask if he was coming. Always he was still working on another project, had underestimated how long a task would take, and would have to re-schedule. After several attempts, he did in fact come and complete all that was possible to do at that point.
Provision of materials. We hired someone to do this work because we are not professionals and relied on advice on every step of the project. From the beginning
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
suggested we contact Floor and Decor in Orange Park since he considered them to be best in price and product. There was much slippage in getting an order completed with this company, since they order in lots that must come in at certain ports, sometimes being postponed for weeks or months. (Even while on our trip, we were
taking phone calls from Floor and Decor to find out whether our replacement of a box of laminate that was damaged in shipment would be ready once we got home.) Once we had gone over and bought the tile, most of the laminate, T-molds, and quarter-round interior trim; he seemed surprised that we had gone there. Very confusing. Nevertheless, we were now committed, since the materials were acquired at our expense. Any damage or poor workmanship with the materials was totally at our risk. The only materials provided by
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was the wood trim for the exterior work. Moreover, it was no
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
matter to unload from our SUV and lug into the house heavy boxes of tile and laminate in two trips from Orange Park.
Workmanship:
Exterior trim.
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
began with stripping the old rotted wood from the exterior. That same week we also were taking bids from painters to do the exterior painting of the house once the trim was completed at the end of the first week as promised.
As the various painters came to look at the exterior to give us bids, they commented on the “unprofessional” work being done on the trim, including a single nail in each length of wood instead of the required two, and the wrong kind of nails were being used. Another instance was a large gap in the corners of trim around the windows where the mitering was cut short, leaving a nearly quarter inch gap in the corner where the wood joined. I brought this to
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
’s attention, and he said that it did not matter since he had a product to patch wood what was great for filling in gaps. This was not repair work but a replacement of wood, so I told him no repair of his own work should be needed. One painter said that
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
’s work would not even pass inspection. If we had not been leaving soon for our trip, we probably would have fired
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
on the spot, but we were in a bind for time. I insisted that the trim be redone correctly, which
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
did. In a separate example, after we had selected a painter that was able to begin work that second week and was well into progress after the trim work was supposedly done, the foreman of the painting company came to me to complain about the condition of the exterior trim on a back corner of the house. I went back to check it out only to find that instead of solid fastening of the trim at the corner with nails, the
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
board pieces were only loosely jammed under the corner trim, with some pieces already rotating out of alignment. Since another one of
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
’s part-time assistants was the only person available that day, I told him to drop his indoor work and go fix the exterior. He spent most of the day fixing exterior trim problems and re-caulking. The only good news about this is that this
assistant’s work truly was professional and perhaps the best work done on the whole project.
Interior tile work. Once
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
felt his exterior work was complete about midway through the first week, he began work on the interior tile. He had wanted to begin with the laminate work, but only part of the laminate ordered at Floor and Decor had arrived; the remainder was due from the dock in
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
“any time now.” I think that
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
is most experienced in
laminate work, so beginning with this was his preference.
Attention to detail and professional care were about as good here as they were in the exterior trim work. Thus, after the first week, with no one on site to work most of the time, and our calling to find out what was going on over and over, we were growing very concerned. Again we were merrily informed that all would be well, since the remaining inside work would be done more quickly since laminate goes down more quickly than tile does.
Most of our grievances with the tile work had to do with obvious alignment and cosmetic issues. Tiles laid adjacent to one another were about 1/16 inch of different height. (My attached image shows an example of the uneven tiles in our kitchen). I can understand the fact that concrete floors often are not perfectly level, but one tile laid beside another tile should have adjoining interfaces of the same height above the underlying floor. Some artistic talent should be employed to smooth out the overall tile surface so that walking across the kitchen does not result in tripping over edges of tile that stick up higher than the one beside it.
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
’s answer to this is that he was not laying travertine stone flooring that floats on a bed of mortar to achieve a perfectly smooth and level floor. I realize that, but nevertheless think that you should be able to walk across the tile floor without the
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
of the sole of your shoe catching on the
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
of tiles.
In addition to the tile
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
alignment issue, mortar was not uniformly laid under tiles to prevent a hollow sound when you stepped on them. In numerous instances, you can walk across the tile floor and hear a hollow knocking sound.
In one instance,
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
offered to replace a tile here and there, but to do that he would have to break out a tile already in place within a whole matrix of tiles, clean out the debris from the hole, then replace it (hopefully correctly) with a new piece of tile. We did indeed have an extra box of tile for future possibilities of damages that could need repair, but to use up this box of tile to correct the original work on the floor was not acceptable. Remember that we were totally at risk on materials for the interior
work.
The cosmetic issues were the numerous instances where the quarter-round molding was not nailed into the baseboard in some sections, gaps at the end of the quarter-round where it interfaced with a counter or around a toilet, gaps where the tile was cut too short where it interfaces with a counter, the absence of a threshold where carpeting of a bedroom meets the new
tile in the hallway, etc.
Interior laminate work. The only serious complaint I would have here is that he postponed this work due to his insistence that it would not take long. He always maintained that laminate went down really fast and easily. As it turns out, it took him all day and up until 7 pm at night to complete the work. He obviously was surprised at how long it took him, and he worked fast and did not disappear to other jobs. He consistently was out of touch with the time requirements for any task. To his
credit, one of the things he attended to when he made his final visit here was to replace some laminate pieces that he had used from the box that had been delivered damaged. Overall, it was an acceptable job of laminate work.

was very courteous and polite. He took his time with all jobs because he says he wants it done right, and not do a rush job. He didn't change the price even when the job took longer than he expected and had to come back. He arrived punctually on both days and completed all tasks to my satisfaction, including clean-up. He explained options and bought materials only when authorized and agreed to be paid by me; and readily presented receipt for materials he needed to buy to complete the job adequately. All other main materials needed for the job were provided by me (My choice only. He would have bought needed materials if I hadn't provided them already. He had no problems with my providing my own materials.) I have already recommended him to two neighbors and he may very well become my regular

Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was recommended my by realtor when she saw the mess my tenants left. I first hired him to do some small repairs but quickly turned the painting over to him so I could work outside. He replaced a ceiling fan and front door light, did some tiling, removed the badly damaged carpet from 3 rooms. Some of these services were over-price, like removing the carpets for $150 when it only took 30 minutes and the removal was only to the

. However, I agreed to that because I thought some of the other charges were low and it all balanced.
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
quickly earned my trust in the first 5 days.
He brought in a friend that he promoted as an expert carpet installer,

Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
measured and determined that he would charge $360 for the 3 rooms and a hall. I had already been to HomeDepot and saw what they had on hand.
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
asked if he would like me to take care of the purchase. I told both him and
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
that I saw what HD offered for $.98 per square foot and that I didn't like it. It was crap. I wanted better and agreed to up to $2.00 per sq ft. The next day
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
told me he picked out a good quality that was only $1.44 sq ft. My mistake was trusting him. I should ave asked for the design name and checked myself. He asked for a check to cover the work done and the carpet. I paid him $2000 that day and $800 more when he delivered the carpet.
I met
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
at the house when it was almost finished. I picked up a scrap and knew it was the low grade crap I TOLD
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
not to get. I drove to HD where the rep confirmed
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
's purchase and showed me a roll of nicer $1.39 carpet that would have had enough for the job.
I called
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
to the house. He admitted that it was $.75 per sq ft!!!!! Worse than what I told him not to get. He defended this choice, made no apology and genuinely seem shocked that I was upset about the crap installed in my house and the $550 he pocketed in difference. At no time did he offer to repay the difference, which was only part of the problem. He called it a judgement call. I couldn't do anything about the poor quality carpet already installed. I told
Jacksonville Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
that I refuse to pay for the install of carpet I did not order. He agreed to pay

He is proficient at this. He knows how to handle these windows which are not like the modern/common windows. The only problem I had with him was he was/is hard to reach and he had to reschedule an appointment but didn't inform me. I called him another time, he came to do the estimate then never bothered to call me back with a price. I called him and he indicated he had a bathroom remodel to do now. Apparently he didn't have anything when I called and afterwards got a bigger gig. I understand he has to make money but he could have given me the courtesy of a call back to tell me to find someone else instead of wasting my time waiting to hear back.
