"They came out to assess issue next morning after my call and then came back the next day to install a new tank. Technician was polite, punctial, and quick.

"We moved from Lexington, KY and knew little about hard water. We went to the office close to their closing time. But they took time for us and explained over an" hour and answered to all of our questions. No pressure talk and it was very pleasant. Later we set a date for an installation but had to reschedule for move in date got changed but rescheduling was easy and they showed up as they promised. Everything went well. After a month later, we had a water leak from underneath of a fridge. We called them, they came and found some issue that was due to an installation. Of course, it was no charge. Apparently, previous home owner also had a system from Aqua System. We are very happy we got our water softener system from them.

3 tips to select the best water treatment

Don't overpay for the wrong water treatment system. One highly rated provider offers some tips to help you choose the right system for your home.

Even if your tap water comes from a reservoir, chances are it previously passed through underground caverns where it absorbed mineral deposits. Water with a high concentration of minerals is referred to as "hard" water. It's safe to drink but can harm your plumbing and appliances.

I actually just replaced my Pelican Natursoft "water softener" with an more-traditional ion exchange model.  I used the natursoft for a little over 4 years, and I can say it worked as advertised.  When remodeling a while back we decided to get a tankless water heater.  All the documentation indicated that hard water with the tankless heater is a no go.  We had to do somehting, but since I'm lazy (didn't want to deal with the salt or plumbing in a drain) and my wife didn't like soft water, the salt-free model looked attractive.  I too was somewhat skeptical, but the reviews I found looked good, and I know enough about the science of nucleation (I was a material science major in college) to know that what they said made sense, so I bought one.

One thing needs to be made clear - the natursoft system is NOT a water softener!  It contains a media which nucleates some disolved metalic salts out of solution.  These crystals, once formed, remain in the water, and still react with oils, detergents, etc. in the same manner as the disolved salts.  They also continue to form scale wherever water is allowed to evaporate, such as faucet nozels and shower heads. In fact, it's possible that evaporative scaling was even worse than before we installed the system.

Importantly, however, once in crystaline form, these salts do not stick to pipes, or in my case, heat-exchangers.  My tankless heater has a sensor to indicate when it needs to be descaled, and the manual indicates that for my water hardness and hot water use I should have had to descale approximately every 6 months.  In four years with the natursoft the descaleing indicator has never gone off.  For further evidence, when I installed my new softener a few weeks ago, I had to cut sections from the copper pipe on both the inlet and outlet side of the natursoft.  Both sections of pipe were installed at the same time as the natursoft, but while the pipe on the inlet side was green and rough on the inside, the outlet pipe looked and felt like new.

As such, if you want or need a salt-free system for some reason (low-sodium diet for blood pressure, don't like the feel of soft water, can't easily plumb a drain into the softener location, or can't carry heavy bags of salt to the softener), then I can unequivocably recommend the natursoft.  If, like my wife and I today, you want soft water, that feels soft on your skin, creates less soap scum, rinses cleaner in the dishwasher, etc., then the natursoft probably isn't for you.

I bought a home with a 9 year old Kinetico in it in 1989. With our family of 6 the Kinetico used 1/2 the salt of two other brands we owned in previous homes, even though the water was harder in the home with the Kinetico non-electric system. When I sold the home in 1993, the buyer insisted I leave them the Kinetico. I bought a new one for my new home, my family grew to 8 and now after 21 years, it has only needed one repair (new resin) 5 years ago.

To answer your question...Kinetico would be a "Mercedes" while others carry the "yugo's." Kinetico offers many models to meet the needs of all families. The single tank Essential unit works well in homes with no iron and 1 or 2 people. Like other single tank systems, it can't provide soft water to your home while it regenerates. However, the Essential only takes 15 minutes to regenerate where electric units might take hours from start to finish. It also carries a full 5 year warranty on all parts. Other systems typically exclude the most important parts after only 1-3 years. All single tank softener can and will occasionally run out of soft water. (laundry day)

The Twin resin tank Kinetico models have several advantages like...5 yr warranty on Signature and Premier models have a 10 year warranty on all parts. So with the twins, you get better water, have virtually unlimited capacity, use less salt, are quiet, use soft water to clean themselves, use no electricity, have no clocks, batteries or computers to ever repair or reset. Power outages & surges have no effect on them. Having a Kinetico sold me on their value. Ask your dealer about renting one, so you can try before you buy.

Perfectly. Came a day early because leak got worse and I called to see if they could fit me in. Was careful with house and left no mess. did the work alone and was very competent and professional.

was great at solving the problem which caused our water to be hard after installation of a new water softener by a licensed plumber not associated with Coopers. He tested the water by tasting it and said "your water is definitely hard" With 15 minutes or so he found a valve that needed to be closed and that solved ...More the problem. We were very pleased with the tinmliness and knowledge displayed by the technician.

We have 17 grains of hardness here on the northwest side of county so we really want softened water. I had been a Kinetico customer for 16 years and really never had to do anything major to my dual-tank K60 system. Recently we started to notice some pressure problems with the drinking water system, so ...More I called Kinetico for an evaluation. A very nice sales guy came out and took our system apart to evaluate it for free.
Naively, I assumed that their non-electric system design would run forever, but their salesman explained that in the past decade Indianapolis started using a lot more chlorine and chloramines to disinfect our city water, and those chemicals eat the rubber gaskets in the valve and degrade the resin in the tank. Believe me, you don't want to wait until your resin fails, because it degrades to an apple-sauce-type sludge which enters the water pipes and can severely damage your appliances. He showed me that after 16 years (really 8 service-years since it is dual tank) my resin was just starting to break down.
So Kinetico quoted me a price for a new dual-tank Q850 system with carbon tanks, to remove the chlorine in my whole house. Now don't get me wrong, I have long been a big fan of the Kinetico design and still am; the non-electric control system and dual-tank-never-run-out-of-soft-water approach really appeals to me.
But when I did the research, I determined that there were some appealing alternatives. Water softener competitors have come a long way in 16 years, and you can get the job done for a lot less money (less than half the Kinetico price - even after their $1000 customer loyalty discount). After all, at the end of the day, all we are trying to do is get clean, clear water with zero grains of hardness, right? It was also disappointing to learn that a piece of equipment I paid many thousands of dollars for in 1999 could not be rebuilt/repaired for a reasonable price.
So I found the Water team on A's-list with their great reviews, and I called them. Mr. ( ) came out the following day and looked at our situation. He recommended a -brand, model WS-1 valve, and single-tank system with a Centaur carbon tank (for the chlorine) stacked over a regular resin softener, for half my Kinetico estimate. So it came down to a Kinetico vs. showdown; I started my research.
The valve is electric-powered (uses about $2 of power per year, and has a battery back-up), but it's cycle is triggered by the metered usage of water like a Kinetico. This was a must-have for me. In 2015 we should not be on a blind, dumb scheduled recharge that wastes tons of salt. It is also smart enough to track your family's usage pattern over the past 60 days to predict when best to regenerate. It targets 2 AM (configurable) for the recharge, or whenever you decide water usage is low.
My research also convinced me that a dual-tank system was overkill in a residential application too. It is highly unlikely we (three people) will ever run out of soft water since there is a buffer built into the calculations of the .
So after some extensive internet research, I bought -valve system. I appreciated that Mr. worked me in so quickly for the installation; I was going out of town on business that week and wanted to sort out the water problem for my family before I left. Their installer came out after 4PM when I requested it and was available. He knocked it out for me that night before I left. He was very nice, competent and worked quickly, in spite of my many questions.
The addition of the Centaur carbon tank was a few hundred dollars more than just their standard softener, but the notion of removing the chlorine/chloramines from the entire house supply was too good to pass up. (Though it is important to note that the carbon tank does not protect the water softener valve from chlorine in either system design, because the softener valve is in front of the carbon tank... So you still have chlorine damage occurring in the valve.)
Now when we shower, it doesn't smell like a swimming pool, and we are not absorbing the chlorine in our skin or breathing it in the air of the shower. I expect our clothing colors will also last longer. You really should read up on the dangers of chlorine and especially chloramines.
Mr. said they also use one of the the best brands of softener resin (Dow-brand) in their system (just like the Kinetico) and the Calgon-brand Centaur carbon should be good for 8 - 10 years.
So the softener valve is the softener, effectively. I did read in many places that the valve is one of the best in the industry (Fleck is the other one) - very to work on and its non-proprietary design means you can go to lots of places to get parts and labor. Not so with Kinetico. You are a captive customer after you buy from them; even the tubing they use for their drinking systems is a non-standard, proprietary diameter. Customers are not allowed to do business with Kinetico dealers outside their region either.
The other impressive thing about this system is that Water offers a 7-year parts and 7-year labor warranty. Kinetico offers a 10-year warranty on parts, but only 1 year on labor. I can tell you their labor is not cheap. also offers discounts for Angie's List members and for paying by cash/check.
In the end, I am comfortable with my decision. My conclusion is that it breaks down this way: You can spend $500 on a cheap DIY system, $1,000 - $1,500 on a -type system from a water professional, or $3,000 - $4,000 on a very fine Kinetico system. Unfortunately, regardless of what you spend, a softener is not going to last forever.
I am very happy being in the middle range. That $500 softener is going to last 4 - 5 years (with no service to back it up), might waste salt, and may not always deliver soft water. This $1500 system is going to give me a 7-year, not-my-problem warranty and should give me more than twice that time in solid service. Sadly, spending $3K - $4K doesn't guarantee you any longer life or softer water, because the resin and the rubber gaskets are the same.
Kinetico makes a good, probably great, product, but IMO their price is beyond justification and their warranty does not reflect the price paid for what amounts to a few plastic tanks with off-the-shelf resin and a nice, smartly-designed control valve.
Kinetico also really does not score well in the Indianapolis A-list reviews for service and satisfaction. (May have something to do with the fact that they are a corporate-owned store now.) Come on Kinetico, if you are going to charge Lexus prices, you need to offer Lexus service, reliability, and warranties.
Good luck with your decision.

The technician showed up on time. He installed the water purifier in the garage, and reverse osmosis system in my kitchen. In addition, he was able to attach my water system in my refrigerator to the reverse osmosis system. He showed me how to work everything. He was were professional. We have used the product for 6 months, and when the salt needed ...More to be replaced, they delivered it the same week I ordered it with no hassle. I have enjoyed their services, and would recommend them to someone looking for a good product with good customer service

Disappointed in the technician's work. The company is very responsive and care's about the work it does. Problems arose after the work was finished. One of the owners later came to my home to address the issue that arose after the initial service.

The sales guy & his trainee were prompt & efficient. Not too much pressure which was nice. We went with a mid-grade softener based on our usage and water.
The install was scheduled just 3 business days after the appointment - , we needed that. The installer called day of and asked if he could come early - I had ...More to say no as we had a conflict. No problem. The installer ( ? So sorry I've forgotten) was on time and installed the system and the needed drain line in less than 2 hours. The install is included in the price of the softener. gave us good information about our particular set up and left us with the assurance that he would return if we needed him. You know what? We haven't needed him, but I believe he would have returned! Maybe people who do solid work are not afraid to offer that promise because it so rarely has to be fulfilled?
Anyway, maybe we paid a little more for this system than if we'd grabbed one off the shelf at a hardware store, but we believe the professional install and the warranty are worth it.

had me scheduled for a.m. service. The tech called about 15-20mins out to let me know he might be just a few minutes late. He arrived per his estimated time. There was snow on the ground this day. He carefully brought the equipment into my home, and discussed the setup process, and asked me questions to gain a background ...More of our use of the system. The tech also hauled my old water softener up stairs out of the basement, and took it away on their truck for disposal. He installed the new system, tested the water at various points in the house and made normal suggestions for use of a new system. The installation was straight forward. They arrived on time-considering unforeseeable circumstances, communicated with me, and when the tech left, I felt very satisfied that I had received a quality installation of a quality water softening system. My house, and I, are happy.
