"Two other licensed plumbers were called to give an estimate of how to fix our water heater situation correctly. Concerns were noted about the initial work which had been done on 11/24/2009 included: Water heater was not placed in a

with a drain Improper fall at flue connector, which could have been a contributing factor of thermal expansion After 2/23/11 work, the other contractors who came to look at our situation indicated the following concerns:

installed a plastic

which is not best practice when working with a gas water heater The thermal expansion tank was installed on the incorrect line. In addition, the tank was placed at an awkward angle and was not braced against a wall. Leakage was occurring around the flue where it has been raised. Because we had more water leakage from the flue, we had to submit another claim to our insurance and the area was tested again for water damage. I called

several times a week between the dates of 2/28/11 and 3/11/11. No phone calls were returned. I was finally able to talk with
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
on the phone when I called from an unfamiliar phone number. He agreed to meet with me on 3/16 and did not show. I sent him a text message and he said he could come the next night, but also did not show. My husband had taken off work on both days to be home when

came because I would no longer meet with him by myself.
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
said he could come on Sat. 3/19/11. On the morning of 3/19/11, a man who worked for
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
came to our house. The
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
employee indicated he felt bad about the situation and said
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
was having a difficult personal time. It was frustrating that
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
did not come to address the leak and his work with us directly. The
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
employee indicated he could secure the leak with silicon as a temporary fix. Silicon could not be used as a permanent solution, so

would have to come back out. I asked the

employee to have

contact me right away so we could talk about how to proceed with getting the work done correctly.

did not call and

has not returned to our house since 3/19/11. On 3/22/11, I was again able to get a hold of

by using an unfamiliar telephone number. During this conversation,
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
said, “he wanted to be done with me,” and that “this was not his problem.” I then asked for a full refund of my $350.00 because I felt he had not done the work correctly and we still did not have an operational water heater, plus, we had additional leaks.
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
said he would give me a full refund and that he would put it in the mail on 3/25/11. I have yet to receive a refund check from

Does a leaking water heater violate code?

Anytime a contractor tells you that you have a code violation, seek the opinion of at least two more reputable professionals in your area to help make sure what you’re being told is legitimate. When in doubt, contact your local code enforcement agency. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member Michael K.)

Dear Angie: My water heater is leaking. The plumber I hired said it would cost $150 for a water heater code violation. Do you know what he is talking about? Is there such a thing? – G.C., Columbia, S.C.

" ARS and

-White replaced the defective heater and gave me a 6 year replacement warranty for $60 plus the cost of installation. I was delighted. I had expected a pro rated replacement cost that would cover only a small percentage of thecost of the new heater. The plumber was very careful and courteous. Overall, an A+ experience."

"this did not go well. we have since contacted northern to correct the problem and are frustrated with that response as well. the point of the appt was to completely clean the furnace in preparation for a whole house air duct cleaning and find out why our hot water heater is blowing the fuse and getting surges of scalding water.  northern has noted that this was communicated upon setting appt. 1st problem:
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
said he did not have any "elements" for our water heater so he could not check them to see if that was the issue with the 5 year old water heater.  his response was that he had not been told to bring those elements. instead, he gave us the prices to replace the elements($193) and/or the thermostat($200). neither of which was "confirmed " to be needing replacing.  he felt job was done. 2 months later, we've had to reset the water heater a couple times and have scalding water again. 2nd problem:

cleaned furnace. next day, airduct company (
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
) calls me down stairs and reminds me that they advised that we get the furnace cleaned before the air duct cleaning! i told them i did and they show me the inside of furnace -- it is apparent it is not "completely" cleaned.  they inform me that they do NOT clean furnaces and i need to get northern back in.

comes back out and grudginly cleans it but does NOT take out blower/fan to clean.  i tell him again about the air duct cleaning & allergy issue we are having. he said that by looking at my furnace (5 years old and been thru house remodel) it doesn't appear that the blower/fan is dirty. ( i look and comment that you can't even see inside to confirm that).  but what do i know?  but judging from the 1st furnace "cleaning" he did, i have my doubts about my blower/fan being completely clean after a $650 air duct cleaning.  oh well.  will NOT use this company again if it was the only one in town.  thankfully that is not an issue;)

"I got quotes after I got it that were remarkably lower. I was also told that they were on commission. I didn't really like them too much. I was very unhappy about the price and the fact that they work on commission. He basically went around the house looking for every little problem. That might be the nature of the game, but I had some other guys that saw him and thought he had a bad reputation."

"The work turned out great. I used the coupons for the job. I use them all the time. If I call them, they are usually here that day. They are here when they say they are going to be here. I find the work to be good. They clean up after themselves. I find them excellent in terms of all service parts of their business. The price is probably in line with everybody else. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary."

"Very pleased with the work. Initially, I received an estimate on the work when
Indianapolis Water Heater Installers Provider Name Locked
came out to unplug a washer drain, and he seemed very knowledgeable and honest, and took the time to listen and answer my questions. When I scheduled the work I wasn't planning to have that all done on one day, but after I decided to go ahead, they were willing to call additional people in to help finish all the work. I did get a different opinion on the backflow preventer and water heater work from a different plumber at the company, but I felt both of them were trying to give me their honest opinion about the best way to accomplish what I wanted. Price is little high, but quality of work is excellent. I had a concern about some water in the backflow preventer when we had a lot of rain this spring and then came out to check it and answered my questions at no additional cost. I highly recommend them."

"The service response was prompt and efficient in providing a quote. The installers were very professional. They quickly assessed what water heater we needed, secured the new heater and installed it all within a matter of a few hours."

"I got them off the Angie's List. They came in and looked through everything in the house and they did a good job. They were very accurate, helpful and the guy really took a lot of time to explain everything. I paid $125 last time, but I had to use them for an emergency before that (they replaced my hot water heater.) which was earlier in January and I spent about $1200 then, but that was on a weekend night and they came so I was very pleased. They are thorough, honest and explained everything. They are efficient and they let me know what was wrong and they couldn't fix that. I had to get someone because the work was outside the house. They did a great job and again when the water tank was leaking he came and fixed it. I would definitely use them again in the future. "
A
"They arrived on time and discussed options and made recommendations. After agreeing on the estimate, they drained and removed the old heater and replaced it with a new one. They even fixed a damaged wire to the unit of which we were unaware. We were very pleased with the quality of the work and the efficiency of the job. The plumbers were pleasant, professional, and charged less than the original estimate. We will use them again whenever we need a good plumber."
