"I've patronized them for some time, and they're very good. They're kind and knowledgeable. Their prices can be shockingly reasonable, sometimes even better than online pricing.

"My experience with was marvelous from the get-go. Mrs. (she was so lovely that I can't believe I've forgotten" her name!) was so pleasant to work with in scheduling. Then (Mr. ) came out to have a look at our figured oak (if I recall correctly) secretary and was just as wonderful. He was kind, courteous and professional. I appreciated the way he really took his time in examining the item to ensure he had a thorough understanding of the work to be done before providing me a quote. But it got better: after we agreed on a price, bundled my treasure up and transported it to (and from) his shop for no charge. I was delighted to see what we brought back a few weeks later. Yes he refinished the top to address a deep old water stain and reset the hinges so the drop-down desktop was usable, but he also custom-made what I'm calling "beadwork" (though that's certainly not the proper term) along the top because they'd all but disintegrated. also carved a custom onlay to replace some missing pieces. Really, it was a delight to see my grandmother's secretary looking so fit and fettle. It practically glows. And I want to be sure to add that it still looks like an antique - was very deliberate about that - but a much cleaner and better-cared-for one. One last note. I noticed a little something "off" the first day the secretary was back home but told myself it was no big deal. Then, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the desktop, when folded back upright, was crooked and really needed to be straightened out. I could understand how the error occurred; after all, the wood had rotted underneath the hinges, so it had to be rebuilt. So I was reluctant to contact but, after a few days, made the call and I'm so glad I did. Mrs. was, as always, so warm and understanding. came out the next day and, after looking at the piece, apologized. He was so disappointed over the mistake and thanked me for telling him so he could make it right! Yes, you read that correctly. He was as kind and gracious as he could be, packed up the secretary and took it right home to work on it, then kept me apprised of his progress over the next few days (he wanted to take extra time to make sure it set properly), which I appreciated. When he brought it back the set of the desktop was absolutely perfect. He apologized once again and told me once more how he appreciated my patience. And then Mrs. even sent me a thank-you note. A thank-you note! To me, the oops was the most telling part of our interaction. It's easy for people to be kind when things are going well but when there's an error that's when you really see who you're dealing with. And while I'd already become a fan - it happened quickly - now I was much more of one. The next time we have furniture that needs attention, I know who to call. Our secretary hasn't looked this good in at least 60 years. Thank you again .

Antiques

Antique collecting is one of the most popular leisure activities in the United States. Due to their intrinsic value, antiquated items are either collected for investment and profit-making purposes or as display pieces, prized as heirlooms.

Hi, benterrific.

Keep checking around at the auction houses and antique dealers. There are a few in your area that are highly rated. The bigger auction houses should have qualified appraisers. You might also check with your local art museum or fine art gallery. Just like we recommend for big home repair projects, shop around to get the best price.

I found out the hard way in the military that it depends on the product. Some silver polishes will turn brass and copper black with instant tarnish and etch them, so check the label. Some types can be used for any soft metal, some not. I suspect it depends on the pH of the product, or whether it has aommonia in it. And of course if you do decide to try it, do the center bottom (where it sits on the table) first so you can see if it is causing problems.

Brasso is probably the top name in the industry - they make both liquid and treated cloth polishing products both for specific metals, and general polishing ones.

I would ask local antique shops and art stores (ones selling art and frames, not galleries) if they repair antiques, AND for references, so the repair does not decrease its value unecessarily. In many cases the old frame is worth more than the painting !

You could also ask local art museums who they use to repair/rehab frames, if they do not do it themselves.

It went fantastically. I can't say enough good things about this place. Everyone was so helpful and kind. helped me find exactly what I was looking for in my price point. This is by far the best experience I've had at a salvage store in . They have great selection, very fair pricing and a helpful ...More and courteous staff.

came to my home with several books of fabric samples. She looked at the colors in my home and the general feel of my style of decorating and helped me in my decisions. I can honestly say that I could not have done this without her help or at least I would not have been so pleased with the outcome. was ...More a pleasure to work with and her craftsmanship with furniture is amazing. My dining room chairs are beautiful and I did not realize just how gorgeous my antique rocker truly was. I am very happy with every aspect of my experience and have/will recommend her.

You can see from the before and after pictures, the set went from faded, bent, and dented (and definitely gray) to STUNNING, shiny, mirror-finish, dazzling. The set seriously looks like highly polished silver or chrome. It sounds crazy, but it is difficult to state in words how beautifully revivified this set. It is now absolutely ...More the focal point of the entire room--seems to project light from its finish. I cannot recommend Restoration, and specifically 's wizardry/knowledge/craftmanship/professionalism, any higher.

It went as bad as could be imagined. There was a great write up on her in a local magazine and Angies List had a decent rating on her back then. Obviously this is not a legitimate business and only a to make money.

They restored it beautifully. Everyday I am reminded when I look at the table, what a beautiful job they did. The service was pretty quick. When they delivered the table, which is bulky and large, they did not do any damage coming or going. They were friendly. Overall, it was a good find and I am pleased with the service.

This is the place to go for antiques and artwork! You can find a ton of cool and unique pieces. I purchased 2 vases, each are very high quality and were affordable prices. The staff is helpful and I believe you can only bargain prices on certain pieces, and artist approval. There are 2 stories full of great pieces.

did an outstanding job! It turned out this table dated back to the 1840's and had some original nails and screws in the inside. The table was solid cherry wood and broken drawers were repaired, the bad varnish was removed, and the cherry finish restored. The result is an amazing return of a sentimental piece of furniture.
