Evening dress allegedly altered by iron

COMPLAINT: Cathy Kroeff, Carmel, Ind.

"I brought a new black silk evening gown to Carmel Tailoring & Alterations for hemming and other minor changes. When I picked up the dress, the alterations were OK but I noticed the gown was wrinkled. I asked the owner about it and she said she had the equipment to steam.

"A week later, when I got the dress back, there was an outline of an iron on the front. They said they were not responsible for the damage and told me they didn't have an iron with a waffle pattern that matched the one on the dress. It took two treatments at a dry cleaning business to get rid of the iron pattern."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of repairing the dress and the original charge to iron it, totaling $41.49."

"We use the same iron on most of our altered clothes. When we checked the pattern on her dress, it did not match with the iron plate pattern. We advised the customer that we have used the procedure with the same kind of material in the past and received no complaints.

"I would count this incident as an unfortunate one. However, we regret this happened to one of our very consistent customers."

STATUS: Resolved
