" , the nice young owner, arrived at my home and we had a very thorough conversation about things that could potentially be done around my" house. I didn't realize this, but his company comes and looks at your house and makes suggestions for what you might to to make it more energy efficient. This included door weatherstripping (why I bought the Big Deal), replacing thresholds, replacing a door, suggesting that I get a solar attic vent to replace the ridge vent, installing radiant in my very well insulated attic, putting in an attic insulation cover and installing either tint or Magnetite window treatments to some of my windows and replacing the plastic AC vents that have yellowed over the last 20 years. They do not do the work themselves, but they act as the contractor for those who will do the work. That was October 2. On October 11, I received an estimate from him on some of the things we had discussed. As it happened, I had a bike accident that day and broke my elbow. I emailed him the day after my 10/13 surgery to ask if he could come out and fix the balcony door (that needed threshold replaced) ASAP, as it had warped even more and I literally didn't have the strength to shut it. I didn't hear back from him until October 19...long after I needed his help or at the very least, a reply from him. I emailed him that day and asked for a refund. I have not received it yet, but I imagine that I will. Below is our email exchange. He is a nice young man and I think he has good intentions, but that didn't help me accomplish anything. Hi , It's not about the initial response time; it's about the non-response after my accident, when I literally couldn't get my balcony door to shut. I think that, for the time being, I'd just like my refund. I'll get someone else to do the weatherstripping and threshold replacement. I'm really disappointed, as I had looked forward to doing bits and pieces of things around this house with your young company. Best regards, On Mon, Oct 19, 2015 at 5:06 PM, <> wrote: , I am so sorry to hear about your accident! I apologize I was not able to respond quickly enough. We were booked at the time, but I can process your refund if that is what you wish, or I can have call you tomorrow to schedule your weatherization and door repair.

Energy Efficiency Audits

One thing homeowners can do to save on energy costs is to have a home energy audit conducted. This will reveal where drafts are entering from outdoors and where insulation is ineffective. Energy auditors can also recommend upgrades in appliances to save energy.

Many homeowners experience energy loss in their homes due to gaps around windows and doors and a lack of insulation — a home energy audit can pinpoint the source

A home energy audit can help you assess how much energy your home consumes. An audit can also show you ways to improve efficiency.

Auditors typically use a variety of high-tech equipment such as blower doors which measure air infiltration; infrared cameras that scan to identify poorly insulated areas; and surface thermometers to find leaks and drafts.

Installation of the attic fan went smoothly. Installation of the attic door tent went less smoothly. The technician installed the tent before determining whether the door would close after the installation. It would not. So he had to reinstall it such that the door would close. The technician left his tools in his vehicle and asked to borrow my ...More tools to complete the installation. Ultimately is was completed to my satisfaction.

i purchased the big deal and didn't get a response.

7/5/2015 - I contacted them on Angie's List and asked if they provided free estimates.
7/6/2015 - Someone replied back and said that they offer free estimates.
7/9/2015 - came out to inspect the attic and provide me with a quote. He came on time and gave me a quote.
7/9/2015 - I sent ...More and email and attached another quote from one of their competitors on Angie's List.
7/10/2015 - He sent me an email with a competitive counteroffer. I accepted and scheduled an appointment.
7/17/2015 - , the installation rep, called and confirmed the appointment.
7/18/2015 - Two installers came out (on time) and set-up the radiant , solar fans, etc. I was originally told that it was only going to take 4 hours, but they ended up coming at 9:00 AM and leaving at 4:30 PM. They placed a large sheet of plastic underneath the attic stairs to cover up my furniture. They were very nice and were very careful in moving their equipment (i.e. ladders) up the stairs to avoid damaging my walls, which I appreciated. After they were done, they cleaned up after themselves using a shop vac. Even though the installation took longer than I expected, I was happy knowing that they didn't try to rush through the installation. This is a huge investment and I felt better knowing that they took their time to do install it properly.
7/18/2015 - I made another appointment for them to come out to install an attic tent. I showed them an offer from one of their competitors on Angie's List and they gave me a competitive price on one of their attic tents. They agreed to come out on Monday, 7/20/2015 to install the attic tent.
Overall, I am very satisfied. Their initial price quote was high. They explained that they were not the cheapest, since they have a lifetime warranty on their solar fans and they provide professional work. However, I am very happy that they were able to provide me with a competitive price quote.

and maybe not as I feel the company is offering a good benefit at a fair price.
But the sales pitch for the higher priced items is the real agenda here.

Well to start off the gentleman called us at 10 am on the date he was suppose to be here and told my husband he would be here at 11 am. The job was supposed to have started at 10 am and end at 11 am. He arrived at 11 am and started with our front door. He left our residence at approximately 1:30pm. Front door: My husband advised he removed the front ...More door plate and advised that we had too much space between the door and frame and air was getting inside. He advised he would have to move the plate back to tighten the seal. Okay that's not a problem we can understand that. Well my husband watched him as he drilled holes into my door frame approximately 10-15 different times and then stated, "I think the frame has to many holes and the screws are slipping into old holes." He replaced the molding around the door with no problem (good job). However it looks a little unprofessional but it's sealed. My husband continued to watch and then he removed the long screws from our door frame and said its probably pushing my door back preventing it from sealing correctly. We have never heard of that and every house that we have ever owned had long screws to keep the door in place. Then as he was replacing the door plate at the end my husband asked him about the extra long screws that were on the lock plate and he said he does remember them being there but didn't put them back. (We had the long screws installed when we first purchased the house so it would be harder for a criminal to kick our door open.) Rear door: He did a great job on rear door and the sealing was done great. Attic: Did not check the attic at all which was part of the plan I purchased. As he began to caulk the windows he attempted to raise our window blinds and pulled it completely down breaking a small piece off the blind. There were two other pieces that snapped off which we still can't figure out where they go. My husband had to assist him in placing the blind up because he could not put it back. Caulking the windows: My husband sort of stopped watching him because I didn't want to make him feel pressured while working. After he left we went back to check the work done on the windows and we were unable to see where he caulked most of the windows. Basically we think he was pretending to be putting the caulking along the window seals on most of the windows. He did not do the windows in our master bedroom either. My husband advised the guy was a really good person (won't mention name) but the company should not have sent him to do this sort of work. I blame the company and not him. I am wondering does the company do any kind of training before sending their employee to someone's home. However my husband advised he was part owner of the business. Due to hiring this business, we basically lost $99.99 and I will now have to hire someone else to come seal our windows and tell us what we can do to prevent debris from getting into our home. We hope our door frame is fixable since so many holes were drilled into the frame. Again my husband advised the guy was very polite and a good person. My husband owns his own business also and he stated the guy did not seem knowledgable on home efficiency. Basically we paid $100 for him to fix the seals on our front and rear door. My husband can easily fix the seals in the door he just didn't want to bother with caulking the windows. Which was not done because our paint is yellow and the caulking is white so you can easily see where he did and did not caulk the windows. We would be willing to allow them to come fix the problem, but would like someone who has a little more experience. That's if they would like to fix the issue. My husband is very nice and did not want to argue with the guy or fuss at him.
- Angela B.

It went well. The price was an Angie's list special. The only surprise was the weather stripping of the two doors did NOT include the sweep or bottom part of the door. That was a negotiated extra $55 for the two doors. One other small issue is that one of the doors is more difficult to lock (with the bolt) with the new weather stripping, particularly ...More from the outside. Overall, we are pleased with the work done.

I contacted Green Street in order to fix a temperature problem in my attic which was heating up the rest of the house. My third story is surrounded by attic which would get to well over 100 degrees in the summer sun. The resulting effect would make the third story rooms uninhabitable during the hottest part of the day unless the AC operated constantly.
...More /> I had obtained many estimates from other companies who only wanted to sell me their product regardless of whether it was the proper solution. Since I have been researching this issue for almost two years now, I have a good understanding of building efficiency and I knew that more insulation was not the answer to the problem.
came out for the estimate and I was suitably impressed by his knowledge of home energy efficiency. After much discussion, we decided on adding solar fans and radiant to lower the attic temperature. Work was scheduled for later in the week. contacted me promptly after and we discussed other potential issues. He was very accommodating with my requests to perform other work while he was on the roof. The day before work was scheduled, I contacted and asked to have rigid form board installed around the third story room ( a music studio which could use the extra sound isolation). He was more than happy to oblige and change the plan.
The entire job was completed in less than 5 hours which is impressive considering the quality of the job and scope of work. It has been a week now and my home is much more comfortable. I have measured my attic temperatures as 10-15 degrees lower than before. I no longer have to run my AC to keep the third floor comfortable during the day. Along with the 30% tax credit and lower cooling costs, I am sure the work will pay for itself in time.
Considering the quality of hastily built townhomes / condos in Houston right now and the lack of detail from builders regarding home efficiency, I believe that many homeowners can benefit from consulting with Green Street for a more efficient and comfortable home.

- Garrett G.

arrived at the appointed time and was eager to start the job. He worked diligently and was very thorough in spite of the heat and tight attic space. 's work ethic is impressive, as is his focus on customer service - going above and beyond the requirements of the specific job.
I have already ...More noticed a decrease in the dust and looking forward to a more energy efficient home.
