"Overall went great. Only thing I put a B on was responsiveness. This is not to say that was "unresponsive", but I did feel pressured" a little bit on timing. After we got the final price and deck panned out, we had a timeline for a couple of weeks out. I thought there would be a little more planning on it, with a week or a few days of heads up before the guys came out, but it ended up being a call the day before. Just felt a bit rushed. But nonetheless, we were ready to go. helped me with the design, and showed me things that would look better. They were obviously upsells (rounding the edges of the boards for example), but I wanted them and they looked great. Construction of the project was pretty good. I think they were a tad faster than originally said to be. The crew added on a bit of wood close to my fence, because the fence wasn't square with the house (deck was going between house and fence) and they saw I had a young son, who would be learning to walk soon. They wanted to make sure he didn't fall in the crack. Plus it looks great. Good people, I LOVED that! Clean up was good for the most part. I did however notice that the crew did leave a couple of water bottles, a half eaten breakfast sandwich (that my dogs sniffed out) and a couple of old saw blades in the backyard, but I had a lot of tear down from the old patio still in the backyard anyway, that would be going to the in a week or so, so it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, I'd recommend these guys (and already have to co-workers and family). If I need another deck, I'll probably give them a call.

I agree with Jim Casper - after about 50 years of dealing with weathered wood finishing both in my homes and in the construction business, it comes down to about 90% preparation, 10% the finishing. If you do not prep the wood right, any moisture, mold, etc in the wood will destroy whatever you put over it.

High-build finishes like paint and epoxies and, from reading the Rustoleum flyer on this new product that too, work by trying to make an impenetrable surface and depend on a very good bond with the surface, AND no water getting under them. Because they are thick and are designed to provide a waterproof surface, unfortunately where water gets under them they are just as good or better at keeping it from evaporating, so you get fungal growth, blistering, and peeling.

Unfortunately, on deck and most outdoor applications except siding the surface will get nicked, scratched and otherwise develop leaks in short order. Water will therefore get into the underlying wood, and because it entered through small cracks and scratches, does not have any airflow to make it evaporate, so it sits there and breaks the finish bond to the wood (causing peeling and blisters), and promotes decay. That is why new deck boards and siding and trim that have been heavily or multi-coat painted on all 4 sides, thinking that will give the best protection, only last a few years versus the usual 10-20 years or so for boards that are painted top and sides only.

The full sun and hot conditions will, of course, cause more thann normal heating of dark colored painted decking. I had one instance where I was doing an independent appraisal of a very large commercial deck at a government facility, and in 85-90 degree daytime temps, in the sushine the chocolate brown deck surface temp was 150 degrees, and the paint was softening so much it stuck to the bottom of your shoes a couple of months after application.

As Jim said, the studies pretty clearly show that a breathable penetrating stain gives the best life, after plain ACA/CCA (copper chromium variations - the green stuff) treated wood. Penetrating stains, properly applied, do NOT seal in the moisture, they inhibit its entry and (when dark colored) help protect against sun damage to the wood and finish, but still breathe enough to let moisture escape on dry days. For my money, I will only use petroleum distillate (paint thinner cleanup) products, as they penetrate into the wood much better. Water based ones immediately start swelling the wood pores, so it blocks further penetration of the stain, which while cleanup is a bit easier, totally defeats the purpose of a PENETRATING stain or sealer.

I would recommend against any sort of waterproofing sealer, as they trap the water just like paint, and I have never seen one that is effective for 2 years.

My personal preference, though it limits the architectural coloration possibilities, is ground-contact rated copper compound treated wood (NOT the Wolmanized brown product), which comes green initially but can be retreated with either green or brown solution or can be liquid colorized darker (though not easily to a specific tone) using either of those as a base. My practice is to redo the treatment before installation to ensure thorough treatment, as from the mill it commonly has skips where boards contacted each other or where stacking seperators laid on it, and the ends are commonly very poorly done. This is done after cutting to length, as cut ends have to be retreated anyway.  A simple short deck cleaner soak followed by a light pressure washing and brush or roller re-treating of ONLY the TOP surface every 10 years or so has, for me, reduced visible weathering of the boards and beams to negligible.

As stated by others: You get what you pay for.  Many contractors no longer use employees.  The cost/benefit ratio is gone by the time worker's comp. insurance, unemplyment and other taxes are paid.  Especially with the high turnover in our industry.  Many, myself included, have our guys set up as sub-contractors.  That means even if the job is only for a day the duties have been outlined and a set pay to complete those duties has been established from the onset.  It's a better way to manage costs once I got used to it.  Also, it means I can operate cheaper and not have to charge as much to the customer.  My agreements with my guys, which they sign, make it clear that I nor the homeowner are responsible for their safety and medical care should a problem arise and that all parties are relieved of any such obligation.  If you hire a contractor who follows this growing practice ask to see a copy of his sub-contractor agreement.

That being said, a legitimate contractor still has operating cost which vary by area and how they run their business.  I break even at $150/day not including labor and materials so I've got to charge more than that to make money.  To keep the math simple, if I'm paying $250 for a pne day job in labor plus another $300 in materials and $150 operating costs I've got to charge $700 to the customer to break even.  That's if I'm only doing one job a day which is why most of us manage several at a time.  The point I'm trying to make is that someone with the necessary knowledge and experience to build you a safe deck is not going to be cheap.  Knowledge accompanies success which costs money.

I've repaired or restructured several decks built by handymen who should find another profession.  Ask yourself this question when hiring someone for this project: Would I trust this person to build my house?  If the answer is no you need to find someone else.  The deck is just as important.  It's where your family, friends, kids are going to gather and interact.  If it isn't structurally sound it can collapse causing injury or even death.  One last word on decks: Always screw a deck together, don't nail it.

Assuming you buy the right size door to fit the rough opening, and that your old door is not a size that is no longer made, and that you get the correct depth and transition adapters and sills and flashing and trim and seals and such, and that you transport it home without distorting and damaging it, then removal and disposal of old one and install new one probably about $250-400 depending on how well it fits, number of transition and similar pieces that have to be assembled (from 1 or 2 for some doors to as many as 30 on others).

The laundry list of things at the start WAS intended to intimidate you - I would say not 1 in 25 homeowners who buy a new patio door have bought it the right size for the rough opening and have everything needed to install it - the contractor almost invariably has to go get materials or parts to complete the installation - sometimes waiting weeks for factory adapters that are needed or missing parts AFTER the original door has already been taken out.

I would question why you are going to probably spend as much installing a door that may not do the job for you as the cost of the door. I would hazard at least half of people who go buy a $250-400 cheap door at a box store are sorely disappointed within months - due to poorly fitted parts, bad or non-existent seals causing drafts or water leaks, fogging or breaking glass, etc.

I would recommend you assess your needs, in conjunction with your installer find a decent and reputable brand unit to fit that need and that fits the loction right, and probably pay 50% more installed but have something that you might actually be happy with. Oh - BTW - your best installers generally will not install the cheapest box store units because they do not want the callbacks, so many times the quality of the installer who will actually do the job for you at a price you are willing to pay gives you a job that is - you guessed it, worth what you paid for it.

?

The product has evolved considerably since the lawsuit.

I would still do your own research and give you contractor your feedback.  At the end of the day, the cost for whatever board you want will be similar.

My first appointment with was in November 2014. He impressed me as a very straightforward, personable, & knowledgeable young man. After several changes to the contract, we sent in a down payment knowing we'd have to wait our turn because of all the rainy weather Houston had been having. The wait was well worth the ...More finished product!! They tore out everything & built a new composite deck, stairs & railing up to a garage apartment, & a new landing complete with a new door. They also replaced some rotted siding at the back of the house. 's crews - , Melben (spelling), & - were courteous, hardworking, & conscientious. always answered any questions I had, & we knew when they would be coming to work on the deck. They took their time to build a deck complete with stairs, railing & landing that will last a long time. We would hire again in a heartbeat. The finished product is beautiful!! Thank you !

I got a few bids and was both the cheapest and had the best reviews on Angie's List. came by to discuss what we were looking for. He had lots of great input and we ended up changing our plans quite a bit, which in the end was definitely the best decision (size and layout of deck, routering wood, handrail ...More design, location of steps, height and size of , etc). I was interested in using a Trex type material so he brought samples and gave me the difference in price. Even though he would have made more money with Trex, he talked me out of it since it wouldn't get the "bang for the buck" and would also have concerns of getting too hot to the touch in direct sunlight. gave me a bid right on the spot, which was really great. I ended up going with a with a polycarbonate semi-transparent cover, which he had lots of experience with and recommended. He had a ton of pictures on his IPad of similar jobs which helped pick the right design. Since we were having the house painted right before building the deck, sent his guys over to the house to demo the existing deck 2 weeks before building the new deck. This was extremely helpful so that rotten boards could be replaced and so we wouldn't get paint on our new deck. He offered this up at no charge and in fact wouldn't take an early payment even at my offering. When it came time to build the deck they had a slow start due to some of his crew being out sick, car problems, etc. So by the third day himself is in my backyard, tools in hand, getting the job done. As the owner and manager of the company, this is not typical. I was really impressed and grateful that he cared to keep us happy and not miss his commitment on schedule. In the end the job was done on budget, on time, and looks great. I can't say enough good things about and highly recommend them!

and his crew tore down and removed the old deck and . They replaced the deck and with better wood and built them to be sturdier than the originals. The finished construction is beautiful. Everything really went great from the beginning to the end with a small issue at the end which they did outstanding resolving, truly they are focused on customer satisfaction even with things they can not control. came out multiple times to do the initial quote along with change a few things I wanted as we went through initial ...More proposal process. is awesome when it comes to going over the options that meet your needs for your project and budget along with being up front on things at the beginning rather than in the middle or at the end so your not caught off guard with your project. The wait to have the work done was not long especially since we were not in a hurry to have the patio done. and (Business Owner) came out along with the crew the first day to everything out and get the patio just right which I though was great. Once again and were very thorough with explanation throughout the process and what the expect when they were completed, crossed all T's and dotted all I's for sure which is what I like about these guys. They crew had everything set in a day and poured the concrete a few days later which looked fantastic and super high quality when it was done! I couldn't afford to have the patio sealed by them since I was way over my budget which they gave me advice and help to do it myself which I greatly appreciated to help protect my investment for years to come. After what I saw I wish I could have had them do it instead of myself because I am sure my quality work was no where near as good as what they would have done. We did run into a small hiccup a few weeks after the patio was complete which were problems with the future sleeve (pipe for wiring to electrical panel) and a small imperfection where some clay/dirt mixed with the concrete and caused a quarter size hole on the surface which is something they could not control or know until the patio was dry. Also the cover to my home plumbing clean out needed to be secured which took a few times to correct but problem was eventually solved. and personally called to follow up after I let them know about the issues to make sure that they could ensure everything was perfect which it is now. They went above and beyond in my opinion to do an amazing job from the start of the project until the end even with the few small problems that happened to make sure I was happy with everything! I will definitely use them again when I am ready to get my front entry way completed with pavers. AWESOME BUSINESS, USE THEM IF YOU WANT AN AMAZING WORK DONE AT YOUR HOME!!!

I first met with in 2013 to discuss what we wanted to do. I courted many other contractors and we carefully considered all of our options. We have learned the hard way to be very deliberate and thorough in selecting the right vendor. In the end, we selected Infinite for the patio cover and kitchen because ...More of their focus on quality. Our expectations are rarely exceeded as we take our time to communicate in detail our vision for the finished product. and his crew did what contractors rarely do and left us unexpectedly happy! The job didn't go perfectly. No big job does and anybody that tells you different is either ignorant or lying. There are too many variables. So what separates a good job from a great job is the ability and willingness to problem solve effectively. When you run into a problem, you want to hear, "don't worry. When its done, we are both going to be very happy." Then, you want to see this come to fruition which was our experience with . I will definitely use them in the future and recommend them to anybody I like. Notice, I didn't say just anybody.
Almost forgot to mention one other very important thing: After the job was done and they were paid in full, I had a small problem with the outdoor water heater. They came back and fixed it without hesitation or any kind of balk whatsoever. Again, top shelf service and follow through in world of full of 'good enough'.
I would love to post pics of the finished product. We are proud as punch of our backyard paradise. I do a lot of outdoor cooking and now I have the ability to smoke ribs, grill a steak, watch the game and do the dishes all at the same time without ever bothering my wife!

Accessing our garage required a 30' walk from the back door to the garage uncovered. We wanted to cover this walkway as well as add a covered patio and have it all integrated with the existing home. It was 450 sq feet in total. We chose to hire our architect separately but also offers this service at a competitive price. ...More After finalizing the design we went out for 4 bids from service providers we had found on Angie's list. Of all the providers that came out I felt was the most professional and knowledgable. I was pleased to see that they were competitively priced and offered a turn key price. The only reason I've given a "B" score in pricing is due to me believing the price was a little high but it was one of the lower of the 4 bids indicating the pricing was accurate.

One of the things that also convinced me to go with was the responsiveness of the owner ( ). He provided his estimate within a few days of visiting and almost always responded within a few hours to a day of me requesting additional information or updates. This was consistent throughout the project.

The guys that has working with him are excellent. The carpenters often worked 5-6 days a week from 7am to 6pm and each time I went to inspect their work I was pleased with the quality. I did find some issues with a few trim pieces and some paint that needed to be corrected but when I informed about them he was already aware and had already asked his guys to fix them. We also ran into a small issue when the masonry crew used an orange-colored grout on the stone columns due a communication error by us. I sent a few photos and he was quick to correct the issue at a very reasonable cost change.

Finally, went out of his way a few times for us and it speaks to the customer service he is committed to. We have a very small backyard with a driveway running through it. Stone and materials often had to be set in the driveway. In a few cases we had to move vehicles in and out and had his guys stop what they were doing to clear the driveway by hand. We were very thankful for his efforts in going above and beyond in those circumstances.

We are very pleased with the service we received from as well as the end product. When we are ready to put in our outdoor kitchen we will be using and his team again.
