Woodworking Reviews in Grand Rapids

The work was completed over 2+ days and finished promptly. The communication was fluid - which I liked. With other contractors, sometimes communication is lacking. I like the frequency and the accuracy of the information. The work was completed to a high-quality, beyond my expectations.

The project went very well.
did an excellent job of setting expectations. He was very honest with what to expect and was very accurate with the timeline that was quoted prior to the start of the project. Right from the start of the project we could tell that he was a builder that was well respected by the sub-contractors and tradesmen. He was always able to get prompt responses from them.
, the master carpenter and project leader was very detail oriented. The quality of work was excellent and he was able to compile a project schedule that was right on target with the timeline quoted. Of course, as you would expect, there were a few unexpected things, but they were typically beyond control of anyone and there was always a very reasonable solution. We definitley had certain ideas of what we wanted and
was able to create the design to incorporate those items. We were happy with all of the trades that worked on the house with the exception of the company that put in the granite countertops. Either they measured wrong or didn't create the template correctly which resulted in some imperfections. Therefore, if you work with
, I would request a different granite source than the one in the Cedar Springs area. Aside from that, we had a great experiences with the others (electrician, plumber, insulators, siding, roofing and painters).
was also great at making certain that the house was as tidy as possible at the end of the day so that we werent having to deal with that. It was a big decision and large investment but we have been enjoying our new home and are very happy that we decided to remodel and use

Perfectly. I got the quote in April and the windows were installed in May. They look great!
This was the 3rd job I've had
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
Remodelling do for us. Four years ago they remodeled our entryway & bath to make them more handicap accessible. The work was perfect! Best of all, they listen to your ideas instead of just doing a "typical, run of the mill job". That's what has me hooked on them.

Provider came out and looked at some floor joists that were sagging. The sagging joist were causing the floor to sink below a wall.

took some measurements and found out that the joist was over spanned for the size of the joist. He recommended installing two

posts under each set of sagging joists. His carpenter

came out and installed the jackposts and cranked the posts until there was a creak.

will come out once a week over the next few weeks and continue to

up the posts until the floor is again level. Great work. The floor used to have a 1/4'' gap from the wall and after installation the gap has been reduced to 1/8''. I'm sure in the next few weeks the gap will be reduced even further if not fixed completely. I have some tile floor above the posts and

wanted to do the jacking slowly overtime to minimize the

that the tile would crack. All in all I'm very happy with the quality of the work and the solution provided.

Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
came first to get measurements for estimates for windows, flooring, and a basement shower, and to work up design ideas for a new deck and give estimates for that. She also offered very helpful ideas for how to resolve some flooring issues -- we have an open floor plan and so figuring out where to end one floor and start another can take some creativity.
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
's suggestions were excellent.

The prices were very reasonable, especially for the windows -- we had expected to pay more. Soon after we agreed to have the windows and the basement shower done,
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
had the new windows here and began installation. These are big quality double-hung windows, and the holes required some finessing to get them in.
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
handled the siding removal and re-install and the window installation with no problem -- the windows look great both inside and out.

Then work began on the basement shower -- once he opened up the space, he realized he could design the shower to make the most of the space and include a shower seat. He knew we wanted to tile the shower ourselves to save money -- he asked if we were up to putting in the shower

and the concrete floor slightly sloped to the drain. Once he described the process, we knew it would require more finesse than we felt sure about. We asked him to do that and it was no problem. He worked long hours for a week to get everything done. He opened up the concrete floor to place the drain correctly; patched the floor; framed the shower, seat, and bulkhead to conceal a standpipe, installed a light and vent fan; then sealed up the shower with cementboard and poured the floor to drain correctly. (He displays an incredible mastery of concrete!

was efficient, hard-working, friendly, easy to work with, very knowledgeable, and affordable on top of all that. We were so impressed!

The initial consult meeting was very good, They were the only company to come with a copy of their insurance and license, as well as the options for shingles and information on the materials that would be used. The estimate was completed prior to the consultant leaving. The 'consultant'
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
, was also one of the roofers, so I wasn't talking with salesperson. He answered any questions we had. He also went out of his way to provide additional information being requested by our insurance company. (The insurance company made a few requests more than once and kept requesting additional details) Each request was complied with without question or complaint.
There was a wait of approx 6-8 weeks the repairs to be made once the contract was signed. We were able to put down a very minimal deposit, as a consession to the wait, and we were informed in advance of the approximate wait time, as their schedule was full.
The only issue we did have was that the measurements were not taken for the replacement skylight in enough time to consider custom ordering after we found out that the size and style of the broken one was no longer available. With the broken skylight as a part of a bank of 3, we ended up replacing a second intact skylight. Custom ordering would have required another 4-6 weeks (minimum) delay.
Once the repairs started, the crew were there when they said they would be, and they did an excellent job of keeping the area clean of debris.
We were also informed the the gutter and fascia work was generally outsourced. I don't know who actually did the gutter repair, but it was installed on schedule. It was done differently than the previous set up, but when we requested information on why, we were shown the reasons why.
After the work was completed, we also requested some additional framing work on the interior of the skylights to make the remaining original skylights appearence match closer to the new ones. The work was completed without any question and was very satisfactory (Thanks

The guys who own
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
are experts at old house renovation and repair. They have very high standards and they are problem solvers. They usually work on a time and materials basis since old houses are often full of surprises but they are honest and will give you options depending on how historically correct you wish to be. We live in an historic district and they know how to help homeowners navigate the permitting process for making changes to old houses. If you are a stickler for details, these guys know how to bring new life back to your old property and you don't have to look over their shoulders to see that it's done right. They take great pride in their work and have become experts on green renovations.

Very nice guy who responded promptly and helped get the right people on the job. They ended up repairing some 2x4s on the side of my roof and fixing some of the roofing. The work was quality and matched the rest of the molding perfectly. Pricing was fair.

From the beginning,
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
was realistic with us about what we could do that was within our budget. He used materials creatively and gave me good pointers on where to find items to re-purpose. We went from consulting with
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
to having a structure in our yards within weeks. we've never had a contractor work that quickly or accurately. We did the finish painting with tips from
Grand Rapids Carpenters Provider Name Locked
. All the rest, down to every detail on the exterior of the playhouse, was

's design.

Called on Monday morning after leak severely damaged ceiling over weekend. Had estimate on the same day, and they came repaired the roof and replaced damaged roof vent the next morning. They let the interior dry completely and then returned and replaced the ceiling, insulation, part of walls and re-installed crown molding. They also hung a new ceiling fan and repaired electrical boxes. The work was done extremely well, done on time and for the amount estimated. This is the second time we have hired them, and they have done an excellent job both times.
