"When I called them they came out, gave me an estimate and started on the day they said.  It was a large job and they had several people there to make sure the job got done in the time estimated which was reasonable. "

"One of the owners came to the house to evaluate the situation.  He spent a good amount of time looking things over, answering questions, educating me (I'm dim in this area) and giving me several options depending on the level of efficiency I wanted and what I could afford.  I had my boyfriend present for his perspective since he is more saavy with these matters.  He was impressed and endorsed working with them. Once I reviewed the quote and made my selections, we made an appointment a few days in the future to do the work.  They accepted half of the entire cost in advance and allowed me to pay the balance over the next four months without interest after the work was done. Because of the extensive amount of work, they spent the entire day at my house and cleaned up after they were finished.  All has worked well since then and I have no complaints.  I would recommend them to anyone and will certainly be employing their services again in the future."

What is a fair price for R-22?

By 2015, there will be a 90 percent reduction in the production of R-22. By 2020, it will no longer be produced at all. Because production is limited, costs to charge existing units that are leaking R-22 refrigerant have gone up and are only expected to rise. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member John R. of Lake Mary, Fla.)

Dear Angie: My air conditioning contractor just charged me $100 per pound for R-22 refrigerant. This is a lot more than I paid four years ago. Is this a fair price these days?

Which furnace filters provide the best indoor air quality?

Replacing the air filter will improve air quality and extend the life of a furnace.

Be sure to check the minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) rating when evaluating air filters. You'll also want to learn about the types of filters and what products improve your home’s indoor air quality.

Understanding furnace efficiency ratings

Check the big yellow tag on your furnace for the energy efficiency rating. (Photo courtesy of Angie’s List member Cynthia M. of Springfield, Mass.)

Understanding what energy efficiency ratings mean for furnaces can help you make the best purchase. Ratings don't tell you how much the energy costs will be, but they tell you how well the furnace uses the energy.

Should you install a heat pump or furnace?

Do your research to see whether a heat pump can provide better heating of your home. (Photo courtesy of Angie’s List member John R. of Lake Mary, Fla.)

Both heat pumps and furnaces provide viable ways to heat your home. But what are the differences between these two appliances? Does either one offer a clear advantage in either cost or efficiency?

Grand Rapids HVAC Contractors Reviews

"I had just moved into a house here in Grand Haven and could not get the natural gas fireplace to work. I called
Grand Rapids HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
's and they said they would come out and give me an estimate. Well no estimate was needed because embarrassingly, all that was needed was to push the button in to get the pilot lit. Pulling out my wallet to pay for his inconvenience he said, no, no, the office will send you something. A bill for 77.50. It would have been nice to have a warning of the trip charge. And it would have been nicer if the company told me to try pushing in the button before coming out. The plumber was laughing at how 35 mobile home customers had a furnace issue due to snow on the roof for which they got to charge them for. They are just trying to get whatever they can out of their customers and I do not believe they understand what it means to provide honest work for honest pay."

"
Grand Rapids HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
's came right over and gave us our options. The earlier company who told us we had a problem with a cracked heat exchanger told us they called the manufacturer and we were no longer under warranty. Not true!
Grand Rapids HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
's told us we were covered for materials and could pay for the labor of replacing the exchanger. They also gave us other options for replacing the furnace (and air conditioner, which we were considering). We ultimately went with a third company for the job who is highly rated on Angie's List and charged slightly less than

's. I would definitely call

's in the future for other work we will need, such as a new air conditioner. They are tops.

"went well; arrived at the time they said they would, everyone was courteous, very professional, even took care not to let pets out the door as they moved equipment, etc in and out of the house"

"Their bid was amongst the lowest, and there was a difference of about $2000 between the highest and their bid. They were fantastic. We had an old air-conditioner which was built into the wall of our house. They had to knock that air- conditioner out; it wasn't an easy task for them because that was around the bricks in the basement of our house. We thought they did a great job. They were prompt on their bid, and they were totally reliable. They installed what we wanted. They made sure what we needed, which size we wanted and everything. The price was good. We will be using them again in the future to tune up our furnace, and to make sure everything is working in order. "

"Used them before for plumbing, and I figured I'd give their HVAC side a shot. Called them first thing in the morning, and they were able to get me an appointment in the late afternoon. They shown up promptly and gave the unit a thorough once over. Found the problem and quickly corrected it. Their tech was excellent, and a pleasure to learn from."

"Said replacing a rubber ring in the faucet would stop the leak and be cheaper than a new faucet, so they did that. Problem solved. They spent about 15 - 20 minutes on the actual fix and charged me for well over an hours labor. Travel time and alll that, I suppose, but my town is smalll enough you can drive any where in 10 minutes. Seemed excessive to me."

"After meeting with the sales rep we set up a date for measuring as well as an installation date. Both appointments were met. The measurement was delayed due to an emergency on their part, however they called and came right over after that was clear. The installation went smoothly and quickly. The installers smoothly removed the old equipment and put in the new. They also ran new pipes, and had the electrician run wiring. The job was completed in one day and we were able to enjoy the air conditioning that afternoon. A side note, the electrician also replaced a faulty switch for us at a small additional fee. (he asked for $10, but all I had was a $20 so I paid him that as it was decidedly worth it to me.) Everybody was friendly and highly efficient. Decidedly a worthwhile experience."

"They were the third estimate I got, best price and actually listened to what i wanted: A decent ac unit, nothing fancy since we plan to move in 4-5 years. The sales rep was brief accurate and to the point, respected my time and I appreciated it. Instal was fine. A slow water leak developed near the coils in the basement, I called, they came in 2 days, right on time. So far they haven't called to schedule a repair to this and I'm dissapointed by this, it's been leaking for a few weeks. The sales rep came out and said his instal guys messed up and it was a stupid mistake. I expected them to call same day to repair...still waiting it's been 3 days."
