Fort Lauderdale Window Installers Reviews
My biggest complaint is that they installed all the impact doors with the top/bottom locking mechanism as required, but they can only be engaged when you are inside the house. ONE door should have been made to lock top and bottom after you exit the house. So after all that money one door is now locked only with the knob and deadbolt, making it vulnerable to fail in a
if you decide to stay in the house for a hurricane, but if you choose to evacuate for the storm then you are leaving
a vulnerable door. All it takes is one door to fail.
The second issue is that the new doors are not all installed at the same height. Some are resting on the slab, and some
are resting on top of a thick ceramic tile that was previously installed in the house. I intervened to get one set of doors
to rest on the slab, but others were measured only to be on top of the tile. Again, the sales people should pick up
that important detail.
I spoke at length with management about the door-locking problem to no avail. I'm not left with a very good
feeling that I got a proper job planned and executed, and when I have the money I will get another company
to finish the job.
Although it took more time than expected, it was well worth the wait! My kitchen and bath are even more beautiful than I had ever thought possible in my budget.
I was very unhappy with the attitude of the workers. The lead worker said over and over that all work must be done in one day because they had so many other customers waiting for their jobs to be done. So they stayed all day into the night (almost 11 PM). I was devastated because I said they could take more days to finish my job, but they wanted to rush to the finish line! I wanted to go to bed because I was so tired after talking to them. They spoke broken English.
It was almost 11 PM when I noticed that my two new doors did not have thresholds installed and anyone entering the house can trip. I also noticed that the marble window sills were not pieced together correctly. They used one thick piece and one thin piece and glued them together for the window sill. All the window sills looked terrible. (I later had to pay my new contractor to correct this.)
Another thing that bugged me is that the lead worker presented me with an invoice for overtime pay for the workers because they stayed into the night. It was a very high hourly overtime fee. I was shocked because they were the ones who wanted to stay longer! The lead worker say that they were "booked with other customers" and they wanted to finish my job ASAP (albeit, sloppily.)
FHA wanted their check from me before the guys left. In fact, the guys were very intimidating, and said they would not leave without a check. I told them to call their boss who drove out to my house right away and demanded the money. I explained why I was unhappy, so he calculated that $1,987.00 should be deducted for the work not done or done wrong. I agreed and wrote the big check minus the $1,987.00. On my check, I wrote "in full payment for services rendered." The guys and their boss finally left, and I went to bed, and vowed NEVER to call them or deal with them again!
I talked to the lawyer who was recommended to me by my new contractor. This lawyer deals with cases involving bad contractors. I now know for a fact that FHA was not within their rights to put a
FHA's reputation is only "sterling" in their minds. Some of their business practices seem shady, and I am sure that there are other customers out there who just don't have the energy to complain as I did on Angie's List.
