"I have been going to Dr. for at least 9 years, I will go nowhere else. She has always had the best staff, they are very helpful in ordering" selecting frames and options for lens's. , is an excellent Optometrist, Her attention to detail during the eye exam is non compromising. She will take all the necessary time to ensure the prescription is the right. She is only in the office 3 days a week, so If you don't mind waiting a little longer to get an appointment, it is worth the wait.

-Vince S.

"My son has had very severe eye issues since birth. We saw Dr. Prazer and were under his care until about 2011. Because of the presumed professionalism of Dr. Prazer" and his staff, we thought we were in the best of hands. We trusted him. We were told that our son needed vision therapy. Our son underwent hours and hours of therapy for about 4-5 years. The entire time, his eyes just kept getting worse. Dr. Prazer kept suggesting more therapy was needed. Mind you, our insurance didn't cover any of the therapy sessions. The therapy was deemed experimental. After spending about $10,000 on vision therapy and treating our son like a science experiment, he didn't know what else to try. He threw his hands up in the air and said, "Oh well, we tried". We have since found a very knowledgeable opthalmologist who specializes in severe eye issues. In fact, in his expert opinion, the eye therapy was the worst thing that we could of done for our son. The therapy taught our son's brain to focus on seeing what he couldn't see and to try to correct the image himself. All that was needed was a patch over his eye, and the brain would have automatically strengthened the weak eye to see better. We tell everyone that asks us for a referral to an opthalmologist that they should NEVER consider sending their child to Dr. Prazer! RUN!! For underneath all of the friendly staff and smiles, a money-making machine. As a parent, we only want the best for our children. Because we trusted Dr. Prazer's professional opinion, our son had to endure hours and hours and years and years of vision therapy that wasn't needed, and very expensive! Because of the vision therapy had trained his brain to see a certain way, our son ended up having to have eye muscle surgery on both eyes. It pains me to the core to know that we, as parents, put our son through so many years of agony and tears because we trusted a snake oil salesman.

Absolutely you have rights to your own medical records. You may have to put it in writing and go through the offices records department. Call and ask to speak with the records department and ask their protocol.

Optometry reviews in Detroit

One of the most pleasant and efficient doctor appointments I can remember. I was taken back 2 minutes before my appointment time. The reception staff was very courteous to get me checked in. The technician was fantastic. She was very personable, discussed what was going to happen, and had me ready for the doctor through testing my eyes in a matter ...More of minutes. Dr. was excellent. Again very cordial, excellent bedside manner, and appeared very knowledgeable and skilled in his profession. For new patients, if you take your current contact boxes or prescription with you, the cost is much less because they do not have to start from scratch. To top it off, the cost of my complete appointment without contact purchase was only $99. I do not know how they even pay all their staff at that cost, by I greatly appreciated it as I do not have insurance. Overall, fantastic experience. I even got to see pictures of the internals of my eyes, pretty cool, never had that before.
- Elwood C.

Medically the experience was acceptable. The bad part that really set me off is I have two types of insurance ? employment and medicare. What normally happens is practitioners will accept the secondary insurance to cover the copay. Normally they would return copay and send a check ? they said they would credit my account instead of returning a check. ...More I find this very rotten and a number of my doctors have done the same thing.
- Edward Z.

Dr. is great, she takes time and is thorough. The optical staff is not of the same quality. I have a small face and often end up with children's frames to get the proper size. The staff member was not helpful in the selection process and when she put the frames on my face, her hands smelled of cigarette smoke. After ...More a frame selection was made and I received the glasses, the vision was not correct. I wear progressive lenses and have a strong prescription. I went back several times and they adjusted the glasses but I could never see up close. They told me there was nothing wrong with the glasses, it was because I was not using them correctly. Not sure how that could be as I put them on my face and look through them. What am I doing wrong?? I ended up using my previous pair and shelving the new glasses. When my insurance company allowed me to get a new exam and glasses the following year, I went to a different doctor. They examined the last pair of glasses to determine my last prescription I received from and could not see the progressive format. They did not believe that the glasses had progressive lenses.at all. Even with my insurance benefit, the glasses that I could never use still cost me over $300.00, a total waste as well as the fact that I did not have an up to date prescription for a year because I had to wear my old glasses. I would never go back there even though I liked the doctor. I always have my glasses made at the same place the doctor is because about 20 years ago when I did not have vision insurance I went to an eye doctor and took my prescription to a discount eyeglasses chain to have the glasses made. The vision was not correct and the optician blamed the prescription and the eye doctor blamed the optician. I was stuck in the middle and it was never resolved. I now always have my glasses made in the same place as the doctor.
- Pamela L.

My observations about my experience with are below. Some of these may seem overly picky, but as I am an advocate of continual improvement, and as I think this provider really cares about explicit feedback, I decided to go into detail about the things that both annoyed and pleased me.
1. Web site gives one phone number ...More in results but a different number on the web page. Confusing. (-1 point)
2. When I called I was able to schedule an appointment for the very next day! (+3 points)
3, When "Printing Directions" to the provider from their web site, you end up printing 5-7 pages, only two of which have the directions. The rest of the pages are the remainder of web site page that hosts the google map image. including the large black "Peepers" logo, which wastes your precious black . This is not a Google Maps issue (I never have this problem when printing directly from google maps, rather it is a problem with the web site design (-3 points)
4. When traveling to their location I got lost using the directions printed from the web site. (No it wasn't because I was flipping through 7 pages, rather it was because the directions referred to taking ROAD off of Veterans Highway, and I could only find BOULEVARD (and from where I come from, this naming difference can be significant.)) Fortunately I had my Garmin with me so I eventually found my way to their office. (Note: Coming home from my appointment, I noted that Road does in fact become Blvd before and at the intersection with Veterans Highway.) (-1 point, Google Maps!)
5. I was still lost at the time my appointment was supposed to start so I pulled over and called them. They said they would still be able to accommodate me if I was a half hour late since they had an opening then, (+3 points)
6. Easy slot parking at the provider as they are in a substantially-sized shopping center. (+2 points)
7. Distinctive logo and sign above business door - it could have been much harder to find since there are so many businesses at the shopping center (+1)
8. When I went to the main desk and gave my name (no one came to me as mentioned by other reviewers) I was given a stare and no smile until I also said I had an appointment. Seemed odd to me that they would not just assume that was why I was there and had given them my name. (-1 point)
9. The practice uses an ingenious method for conserving paper in their office with respect to some kind of acknowledgement everyone has to sign. You sign a plasticized copy of the acknowledgement and they scan it in, wipe off you signature and reuse (+2 points)
10. During one of the tests the technician did not explain that in order to see the letters at which I would be looking I would sometimes have to look way up or down through the machine. I don't know if that was a problem with me, the machine, or the technician's directions, but it felt a little awkward to me when I at first did not see anything. (-1)
11. The technician explained the two diagnostic imaging tests they offered that insurance does not pay for. The words went by pretty quickly, and I would have liked more time to think about the possible advantages getting them in relation to my age, but my being on a budget wins out when I have to make quick decisions, so I opted to take the lower/no cost (to me) option, which was to have the dilation drops and manual eye exam.
12. I had not made an appointment with a specific optometrist, and it would have been nice if when the technician took me to a chair to wait outside one of the office doors, she would have told me the name of which of the 4 optometrists I would be seeing. Instead I hijacked someone passing through the hall and asked them which doctor was behind the door I was sitting outside of. Also while I was waiting I also stopped a hallway passerby (one of the optometrists, I think) to ask why they had two different phone numbers on their web site and he said it helps them measure the effectiveness of engine optimization vs. that of the website. (+2 points for the passersby who graciously answered my questions)
13. Interaction with Dr. Tilles was everything I hope for in an optometrist visit and more. He has a wonderful manner, and I received good information about cataracts and glaucome, including an acted out description of the pathophysiology of glaucoma! My optometrist for life I hope. (+10 points)
14. While waiting for the dilation drops to take effect I was escorted back into the main area where it seems it was assumed that I would be purchasing glasses (when the main reason for my visit was DMV and I had just been certified as not needing corrective lenses for driving). I felt this was a little presumptuous. (-1 point) I did opt to get reading glasses, but mainly to take advantage of my soon-to-expire insurance benefits.
15. After I picked out frames and was halfway through the fitting/pricing process the technician suddenly "remembered" that due to the type of frame I picked out (not a full rim) they recommended a higher-priced material for the lenses. If she had "remembered" this as soon as I had shown her the frames, I probably would have picked a full-rim frame. But at that point I was so annoyed that I stuck with the cheaper material in spite of the problem with the higher risk of damage. It would have been far better if at that point she had asked me if I would like to reconsider the frame I had picked out. (-2 points)
16. When I had initially presented my old reading glasses, despite the fact I had paid over $200 for them several years ago at another provider, they said "oh, did you just get these from the store?" (or something very similar that). Kind of insulting. (-2 points)
17. After my glasses order had been taken I said I would also like to have a copy of the written prescription from the exam. (I long for the day when optometrists actually ask "Would you like to have a copy of the prescription?") The technician said she would get it, and when she did, she came back only with the reading prescription. I had to explain that I wanted both the reading AND the distance prescriptions since that was what the exam covered. She also got the distance prescription for me, but it annoyed me that I had to explicitly ask for the second one. (-1 point)
OK, so all in all, I'm not really adding the points, just providing feedback about relative level of annoyance/satisfaction.

- Elissa W.

I scheduled my yearly eye exam and found the office staff to be friendly and accommodating and the office itself to be clean and bright. Dr. was very pleasant and understood my vision needs. I made an appointment for my husband the next week and he liked Dr. as well. We will be returning to this office ...More for all our vision needs.
- Mitzi C.

Dr. has been established in the McKees Rocks area for over 23 years. Her building is easy to find and easy to access.
Most of all she is very personable and her staff is more than helpful. She has a wide selection of frames to pick from if your in need of new glasses. I just picked up my new glasses and am SO SATISFIED. ...More I suggest giving Dr. a call at 412-331-9696.
You will be glad you did
- Patty B.

The staff is very professional and friendly. I only waited a few minutes for my appointment. The doctor has a new procedure where he takes a photograph of the back of you eye, so he has a permanent record that can be compared year to year.
The exam was thorough and the doctor seems to have a great deal of experience.
The process to order ...More my glasses was handled by someone who do only that. He knows his stuff, and thoroughly explained everything he was doing and all my options. It only took a week for the new glasses to arrive, and he was very competent at adjusting them to fit.
Overall, I am extremely pleased, and I plan to continue to use this company for my eye care needs.
- Werner S.

He was efficient, yet took his time. His exam was thorough, but he did not discuss my cataracts (which are very small) and did not have photography so he was unable to take a picture of my retinas. He did discuss that his findings of the retina and macula. ANd gave me a copy of the eyeglasses RX. The exam is $60; with an AARP membership, it is only ...More $45, the best price I have found.
He is at the Penney Optical Department in Castleton. This is very convenient, if you go in the North Door. The optical deparment is just inside, to the left.
Support staff was very accommodating and pleasant while helping me with the possible eyeglass lens, coatings, frames. However, he said he was unable to give me a written quote of the eyeglasses that I selected; he did write down the price on a business card. I would have preferred the written quote, giving all the details, so that I could precisely compare with other options.
I ended up buying glasses at Costco, for about $60 less than the $241 quoted at Penney's which included their big discounts in effect until Oct 31.
After I had purchased at Costco, I found out about Zenni Optical, www.zennioptical.com. This site had a pair of glasses with about the same features as Costco, for $96 plus $5 shipping, for a total of $101! I will definitely look at this site first next time!
