COMPLAINT: Edward and Rosemary Bangel, Birmingham, Mich.
"My husband and I hired Unique Refinishing to refinish our tub. The first time they came, they sanded down the tub and reglazed it. The next day, another man came and filled in the caulking, which took five minutes. They charged me $65.

The caulking washed out within the first week, so they came back a third time, saying they were putting on a reglaze. They said the caulking didn't stick because it was wet. They should've dried out the tub the second time they came so there wouldn't have been a problem.

I'm an 80-year-old woman, and they had me on my hands and knees cleaning up messes they left. The hardest part was how rude they were and that they didn't do what they were paid to do. I paid good money for service that should've been done correctly."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want to be compensated $150 for the time I spent cleaning up and the stress and strain of having to make sure the job was done correctly."

"The service manager met with the member to inspect the tub. It looked great. [There were] a couple of minor imperfections by the drain. He took a picture of the tub and the spots didn't show.

We offered to come back at her convenience to repair it at no charge. This tub previously was reglazed by another company, so a lot of sanding was involved to prepare it for the new coating.

We came back the next day to recaulk her bathtub. Minor wiping up or vacuuming was the only other cleanup needed. We're just waiting for her call to schedule [it]."
