Home Remodeling reviews in Denver
This project began with a limited scope to remodel a single bathroom and we felt comfortable expanding it without further bidding. Most of the work was done well though ended in severe financial mismanagement and the contractor leaving the job site with the work incomplete, faulty, or damaged.
The contractor left our site to assist with emergency flooding repairs, which was fine had he coordinated with us advance, and committed to a timeline to return and finish our remodel, which had several items incomplete. After months of attempting to get him back on site, we discovered he'd never ordered materials we had paid for, failed to pay subcontractors, and had accepted payments that were double billed (partially our fault for making payments).
We ended up terminating the project because the contractor was non-responsive and non-committal on his plan to finish up all the outstanding items.
This contractor failed to return almost $15,000 paid to him in excess payments and material deposits for orders he never placed or ordered the wrong components.
He further refused to repair or pay for damages caused by one of his subcontractors, who damaged several large glass panels with a sander, resulting in over $1,500 of damages, saying it was our problem and to go after his subcontractor, and he wasn't responsible. Several of his other subcontractors and suppliers contacted us about filing mechanics liens on our home, since he had not paid them months after we paid this general contractor for their work and materials.
It's been almost three months since we terminated this contract and the contractor is still refusing to return funds he's admitted to owing and we've been forced to take legal action, resulting in thousands of dollars in additional legal fees.
understatement. I chose them, so I must own that mistake.
They were months late. We had repeated problems getting straight answers. The individual in charge of the project was horrendously unorganized. One, comical example: they started installing our bathroom tile in our hall/kitchen because the project manager did not pay attention to written instructions. All that work was ripped out and re-done. Tile work in one bathroom and in the kitchen still have some problems.
Material selections had to be changed because they did not order items on a timely basis even though the items had been selected sometimes months in advance (e.g., doors).
Other problems just arose from a lack of thought--like they installed the new doors that had nickel door handles but left in the old brass hinges and latch plates.
Sadly we even had problems with their core HVAC and plumbing services. For instance, they installed a thermostat that people who came in later said was wrong. Then we discovered that they failed to reconnect the house humidifier (the copper line was just hanging unconnected) so we are having someone else reconnect it. Finally, we discovered that (or at least it appears through the hole in my wall that) the water pipe leading to the old wet bar was completely removed; yet apparently they gave no thought to how we would connect to the ice maker/water dispenser in the refrigerator which was right next to the old wet bar.
No single item was critical and in the end we have a home we really like, but we went through a lot of unnecessary grief in the process and there is no way we will work with these people again.
He was amazing!! He seemed to be able to do anything we needed.
We think we're the best, and we can prove it.
