"These people are absolutely awful! They send statements, not invoices. On these statements, all doctors' charges are lumped together. There is no breakout by doctor or service. Insurance payments are not broken out by date of service. A consumer has no idea what he is being billed for.
I have a 12 page statement that goes back to the year 2000. They think I owe them money but I don't. They threaten collections action but cannot explain the charges.
Case in point is services performed for my wife on 1/24/11. They charged $1.588.22. Blue Cross discounted this to $527.57 and paid $474.81. The secondary insurance, Cigna, paid $179.63. There should be a credit balance of $126.87 but the Billing Office does not recognize this.
I have sent them dozens of letters asking for an explanation of the balance they say I owe. They have replied with 12-page statements dating from 2000 (the same as I already have) with highlighting, including the services performed on 1/24/11.
The example above in just one of many for me, my wife, and my daughter.

"I was having severe abdominal pains and my husband drove me to the nears ER he could find. From the beginning to the end, it was a nightmare. We had to wait 8 hours in the emergency waiting room and then once we were admitted in the back, I had wait another 2 or 3 hours to see the Dr. on duty. Dr. Einfalt was the rudest Dr. I've ever met. He has no bedside manner whatsoever and saw me for 5 minutes at the most. He ordered a CT Scan, which my Dr. later told me, he shouldn't have done because it was totally unnecessary and harmful to me. He misdiagnosed me, but I don't know how he could have diagnosed me correctly having seen me for less than 5 minutes. I was so upset by the entire experience that I tried to walk out of the hospital, but the head nurse convinced me to stay and said that she knows Dr. Einfalt has no bedside manner, but that since they were finally able to find a room for me, I should stay and see if they can help with the pain. I have since been correctly diagnosed and I am in the process of writing a letter to the hospital and to the NC Dept of Health & Human Services. There was absolutely no sense of urgency from anyone in the hospital and it was clear that no one cared. I even asked to speak with the Hospital Administrator,

"nurses were very considerate and caring. The hospitaist was pleasant but vauge. He also told me I would not recover from my stroke. The nurses would answer all my questioons, more so than the doctors. Food OK. Had to wait about 45 minutes in the emergency room before seeing anyone."

"Overall, this was a very positive experience. As with any medical experience you should always remain involved with your loved one and the staff responsible for their care. Get to know them and get/give contact numbers. "

"I went to the emergency room in the middle of the night. They moved quickly to get me in however, they had a code blue and I had to wait for awhile to actually see the doctor. They tested my urine and found I had a UTI and gave me a prescription for it. I went to Walgreens Pharmacy afterwards and got it filled right away. "

"My husband fell and hit his head and the ambulance came and took him to the hospital. Everyone at this hospital is very helpful and if you need something they are right there to help you with it. If you have questions they will take their time to answer them for you. You just feel that everything is ok and under control. They took good care of him. They are very efficient and caring and their staff has been very accommodating. My husband had trouble walking and they went and got him a walker to help him get into the wheel chair and they went out of their way to get it for him. I thought that was very accommodating. They had to send out for an analysis to see if the medication was ok or if it was viral or something else and they would have to change it. But apparently it was ok because I wouldn't know until I got home, so they said that if I didn't hear from them that everything was fine. They communicate very well and are so helpful. We will continue to use the services of this hospital in the future."

"I was unhappy with the fact that they did not tell me the result of my echocardiogram; my primary care doctor had to call them up for that. I would like to change my care from them but unfortunately they are associated with my primary care physician, so I

’t really have an option."

"Entered hospital through Emergency Room close to death. Did diagnostic tests and treatment in a timely manner and admitted my husband to the hospital. Saved his life and he did not catch any new infection due to the care of the whole staff.

The nurse needed to draw blood which was very difficult because of low blood pressure and small veins. The nurse was patient and persistent so that my husbands disease could be diagnosed.

The staff clearly cared about my husband.

"After transfer to downtown

hospital and a delay of a few days it was discovered that the elastic stockings were too tight, never checked or changed. Heel ulcers were discovered and after changing professional staff a competent hospitalist and wound specialist were found. Treatment resulted in weeks of hospitalization and about five months of treatment in a would clinic."
