He is as good as all of his reviews and worth the two to three month wait. (Someone who is ready to swing a hammer at your house tomorrow is not usually available for a good reason..). We already have him working up a bid on another project. Finding a person you can trust with your home is not always easy and we are very happy to have found someone with excellent craftsmanship, professionalism, cleanliness and attention to detail.

We hired
to do the work as described above.
, the owner was very personable and was the lowest of the bidders we received ... now I understand why. We did tell
that we wanted the best work possible and if there's ever a choice between doing it cheaply or doing it better, always choose the better route. This is our home and we want it done correctly.
The one thing
said when we first met him is that he "stands by his work" and that the actions of a man is how he deals with customers in a time of trouble. We liked that he stood behind his work.
The contract we signed was to have the work completed within 60 days. Work started on time and appeared to be going well. We paid all our invoices the same day they were received and we even fronted monies for part of the work while we went on vacation.
The first sign of trouble came when our new windows did not arrive.
said the manufacturer in California was having problems with shipping and they should be here at any time. Remember, this was during the winter and we had a whole side of our home exposed to the elements. The windows still did not arrive for about 2 1/2 months. Finally
said he would order them from another distributor of which they did arrive. In hind site, what I think occurs with
is that he uses monies from one job to pay for the next job and didn't have any money and never did order the windows until such time as he had another job and could get our windows. I only speculate on this, but other dealings with him make me think this is the case.
The work then progressed nicely although we are now in month 4/5 of a 60-day project.
We had also contracted to have him work on our decking on the lower patio and the upstairs decking above the downstairs patio. We desired to have the upper deck waterproofed and the lower deck aesthetically improved. The lower deck went okay, although the finish carpentry work was really shoddy and we recently had it redone by someone who took their time. I believe
uses cheap labor and sometimes it really shows. On the upper decking he had some plans for waterproofing the deck (I was always skeptical of the method he recommended). It continued to leak on the lower porch and each time he came out he tried to repair it with caulking. The man must own stock in the caulking industry. It's always his use for anything that leaks. I again spoke to him and explained I thought his method was not correct. He finally lamented and agreed that we should go another avenue. He told us to use a roofing company that he found and that we should contract with them and he would reimburse us ($2,800). Again, in hind site we should have had him pay for it. To this day we still have not been reimbursed and did receive a $1,000 check that bounced. He has twice told us that monies will be sent and we haven't seen anything yet.
had also applied a new ceiling to the lower patio that had been ruined by the leaking of the upper decking. This was probably a good thing because whoever performed the work of applying the ceiling did a very poor job and it looked crappy. We hired someone else to complete that work for us. It now looks great ... but we are out another $1,000 that should be
responsibility.
Then, our neighbor approached us and said he had been watching the construction of the
and bump-out and noticed that a vapor
was not applied to either (we didn't know because work was being done while we were at work). I called
and he said it wasn't code in
to apply a vapor
. I work for a local city and approached our building official who said "Yes, it is code". I then called
building who also informed me it has been code since 2006. I then called
who said it must be "something new". He then called out a crew who had to remove all the siding and put up the vapor
. Along the way, this worker noticed some shoddy workmanship and repaired it for us.
We then had our first rain of the season and noticed that water was leaking through the lower bump-out. We called
who came over and said the window needed caulking (of course!). He did that, but upon the next rain it leaked again. At the same time I had called
building for a final inspection. When the inspector arrived he noticed that there were two big areas under the soffet that were exposed and that was obviously where the water was penetrating the interior. The inspector also said that no roofing permits were pulled and that the 'three-tab' shingles that were used were not adequate for the slope of our roof. I called
and asked why a roofing permit was not pulled and informed him of what the inspector had told me.
did hire a roofing contractor who came over and applied the correct roof and covered the two holes in the siding. It appears to be waterproof.
I then called
Building who came out three additional times to inspect the work and each time found something wrong with the work that needed to be correct. Remember, all this time we are 100% paid to
on our job that is now in its 9th month of construction for a 2 month job.
About the only good thing to come out of this is that we found a very good handyman construction guy named
who was a sub for
and did the new re-siding of the bump-out and
. We have hired him a few times now to do work for us and while he is not the fastest worker in the world, he does great work and is reasonably priced.
We finally have received our final inspection and all seems to be well with the work. But we are still owed over $1,800 plus the $1,000 we paid for the new ceiling.
will not return our calls or texts and his check bounced. Our last conversation with him ended with "I will pay you the money when I have it" ... I wonder what he would say if his next customer told him the same thing?
If I would have known that
and
cannot be trusted and do shoddy work, obviously, I would have never have hired them and put us through this mess. At this point, we just want our money owed to us and get
out of our lives. Until then BE WARNED OF
AND
.

This AM Saturday we had to call the police to get this man and his brother out of our home. When we confronted him with the poor quality of his work he became irate and accused us of lying. My husband agreed to pay him half of the remaining fee just to get him out of our home without things coming to blows. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!!!

Scheduled with Barb at
Denver General Contractors Provider Name Locked
. Told her my problem and she went through the schedule, checked the weather, as this would be outdoor work and then made sure I had a name and background of the person she was going to send over. Person came over 15 minutes before his scheduled time, we talked over the issues, he took some measurements and at the exact time he was scheduled to start, he was driving towards Home Depot to get the materials needed for the job. He came back, didn't waste a minute, showed me how rotted the existing wood was and immediately went to work. Within two hours, the rafter tail and flashing was replaced, as well as caulked. Everything looked tight and professional and after I painted it, nobody would know that it wasn't part of the original framework of our home.

Afterwards, I mentioned another woodworking project (a breakfast nook) I would like to be built in the future and the
Denver General Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very honest, saying he wasn't the man for the job but
Denver General Contractors Provider Name Locked
had somebody who would do a very good job with this. Barb, expect a call from us in 2012!

Denver General Contractors Provider Name Locked
completed the project on time and on budget ? a big accomplishment given the size of the project, weather, and amount of unknowns that can pop up during the journey. I am writing this recommendation almost 7 months after the completion of the project. Why? Well, I am writing it because
Denver General Contractors Provider Name Locked
(and their sub-contractors) has stood behind their work the entire time. I have called
Denver General Contractors Provider Name Locked
on a number of occasions for follow up work (very normal on a project this size) and also for advice on work that falls outside the scope of the contacted project (probably not that normal).
Denver General Contractors Provider Name Locked
has ALWAYS picked up the phone and been responsive to our needs ? ALWAYS. This is in contrast to some of the past experiences where companies have basically taken our money and not stood behind their work. I want to recommend
Denver General Contractors Provider Name Locked
because they are honest, professional, quality focused, experienced, and act as a consultant through the entire process. If anyone would like to see the quality of work they did with our remodel then please let us know ? we can send before/after pictures or you can take a tour of the house.
