"Thursday, 1/30 Noticed that water heater #1 was consistently not heating. Had been intermittently shutting off (with error code 90 or 59) over past several weeks. Heater #2 (on right in closet) had not had any issues at all. Called
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
for appointment.
Friday, 1/31
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
came to diagnose. Stated that since neither heater had ever been serviced, they would need service valves installed, and needed to be descaled. Discussed pricing and offered a price break on water heater service if we purchased
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
Gold service/maintenance plan. He noted that the gas installation was not ideal (1/2” rather than 3/4” supply line). Agreed on service plan and water heater service price and paid deposit.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
to complete work on Monday.
Monday, 2/3
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
came and installed service valves and descaled heaters. I was here during the day to assist with turning on faucets as needed, turning off breakers, etc. When he was finished, he billed me for the balance and turned to leave. Luckily, I checked to see if hot water was on and noticed that there was no water at all from outlets.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
double checked and opened an inlet valve that he had neglected to check. Turned on a single outlet and checked hot water before
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
left. Went outside later that afternoon and noticed that
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
had left the cover off the recess box when he left.
Tuesday, 2/4 Noticed that turning on more than one hot water outlet resulted in minimal water pressure, then no hot water at all. Heater #1 still giving error code 59 within a few minutes of coming on. Heater #2 (previously working fine!) not coming on at all. Called
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
, who dispatched
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
that afternoon.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
troubleshot and noticed that heater #2 would kick on the burner when the hot water relief valve was opened, but no other time. He called Noritz support, who advised him that the gas manifold pressure needed to be checked and adjusted. I expressed my opinion that it was a water flow problem.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
did not have a manometer, so set up an appointment for the next day, “probably one of our more experienced technicians”. Appointment was set between 11 and 3 for Wednesday because I advised
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
and the dispatcher that I had an appointment at 3.
Wednesday, 2/5 Waited at home between 11 and 2:30. When I called
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
to ask for an ETA, was told that my appointment was for “after 2” and that they could not give me any other time estimate. I went on to my appointment at 3:00. At 4:15
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
called and said that
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
was on his way; I advised them that it would be about 4:45 when I could get home.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
arrived at about 4:45 and was here until 7 or 7:30. The first thing that we both noticed was a leak in heater #1, which he diagnosed as a leaky solder joint from
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
’ work on Monday, and set about fixing it. Continued to try to troubleshoot both heaters, but his manometer was broken and couldn’t check gas manifold pressure. Eventually left and told me that a supervisor and one of their experienced technicians would be here Thursday morning.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
told me that the installation was not right and that was part of the problem.
Thursday, 2/6. Called at 9:30 to check on arrival time, was told it would be “within the hour”. Called again at 11:00 to recheck arrival time, while on the phone got a call on another line saying that they would be here within 30 min to an hour.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
arrived at about 11:45 and started troubleshooting. I told him that priority 1 was to get heater #2 working again as it had been before, then to worry about heater #2, and that this was the last visit that we would ask them to make. After some work,
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
insisted that our installation was bad, and that nothing they had done on Monday could have caused any new troubles. Finally after another 30 minutes called me out to show me that one of the valves on heater #2 (that
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
had installed) was stuck closed and that was the problem. I asked
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
to get it fixed, then we would ask another company to complete the repairs to heater #1 (which still gave a consistent error code 59).
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
asked if we would like to have a manager call us, and I responded yes. Still haven't heard from them 2 weeks later. Will ask for charges for
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
' labor to be refunded, and to refund and cancel the service/maintenance plan, as I don't trust them to touch anything else in the house.

Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
provided a second opinion after another mechanical company claimed they had to shut off our unit for 'safety reasons' and urged that we replace our furnace. The other company appears to use this as a sales tactic to replace entire systems. Southern Mechanical verified that our system could be repaired at a fraction of the cost of a full system replacement. I respect
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
for being honest in their assessment and not pushing for a hard sell on large ticket equipment.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team showed up at the time promised to complete the reapir and even finished early. My wife and I are very satisfied with the work they completed and plan to use them for any work in the future.

claimed that legally they had to shut off the unit, however a further opinion showed this only to be a sales tactic.
We opted for a second opinion on the condition of the existing equipment (which had been operating fine that morning) and called Southern Comfort Mechanical. They assessed the units and agreed that there were some items that should be corrected, but did not require the units to be shut off. They helped us restart them (which took extra work, as
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
disconnected wires inside the blower unit to ensure we could not restart the system ourselves) and walked us through what would only be $1500 in repairs to get the units up to code and fully operational.
We later found out that
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
claimed to be "legally required" to shut off our friend's unit as well. It seems to be a scare sales tactic to pressure people to replace units during weather extremes. It was over 100 degrees outside when they shut off our friends unit, making them desperate for a quick fix.
We were contacted by Southern Comfort Mechanical roughly 2 weeks after they had completed the work on our house. Apparently,
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
Air had seen the service trucks at our house and investigated with the city to see if a permit had been pulled (replacing an entire unit requires city permitting). Since Southern Comfort Mechanical was able to fix our system without a complete system replacement, no permit was required, and thus nothing was pulled.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
then reported Southern Comfort to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, accusing Southern Comfort of working without a permit, trying to get the company in trouble with the State. TDLR investigated and found nothing to be wrong.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
maliciously went after another company because they did not receive the sale on this project.
Beware of
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
. If they try to shut off your system, be sure to get a second opinion. I would recommend Southern Comfort Mechanical any day.

"Over Christmas, the pilot light went out on my heater. When we tried to re-light it, it wouldn't stay lit. I bought a big deal off Angie's List for a heater inspection and diagnostic check. The people from
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
, called and set up an appointment. They arrived promptly and diagnosed the problem. The tech actually attempted to save me money by replacing my valve with a used one first, but when he couldn't do that, he went and got a new one and replaced it quickly. He told me exactly how much the new valve would cost before leaving to get the new one. The price seemed reasonable and I agreed to it. I assumed that was the price of the part with no labor. It turned out to be the total price! It was a very good experience. I would highly recommend
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
and Air.

"Overall
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
did excellent. I will break my review down into 3 parts a) estimate 2) installation 3) post sale support/registration.
Estimate - Had it not been for a discrepancy between the Trane equipment estimated, the features and costs and how the equipment was promoted to work and the efficiency - I would have given the 5 stars!!!! In short, the XL16i was quoted as being a 2 stage condensing unit and no fault of
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
, Trane changed the operation of the XL16i to be a single stage unit. This was only discovered once the install was 1/2 completed. The salesman would talk in circles and became difficult to reason with and pin down as to what the actual differences would be between the quoted equipment and costs vs the 2nd option of XR17. Again XL16 equipment in attic was installed, heater and coil were installed and the combination to different condenser would produce different results as it was quoted as using a different coil. This became an issue with salesperson. I do not fault him, but we had difficulty in communicating.
Here is where you want to use a company like
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
. The installers were excellent. The change out manager overseeing installations called me wanting to ensure I was happy as a customer and looked up the combinations of equipments, btu, etc. and changed out the coil in the attic with higher capacity one to match the XR17. This was done after the installer had completed the installation of the other equipment and fully tested the system. I am sure it was costly and a pain to them but I appreciated it very much. I give them 5 stars for service/installation and honesty.
Service after the sale was another 5 stars (so far). They registered my equipment for Trane Warranty and an additional service warranty and were very helpful advising how to transfer the warranty of existing equipment. Again, the service after the sale has been very professional and responsive.

"Quick diagnosis of a failed combustion blower allowed for acquiring and replacing of that fan and pressure valve the same day. A very cold day at that. Courteous, and knowledgable service tech who explained exactly what was needed, and then the invoice."

"The guy came out and diagnosed that the unit was low on refrigerant was the reason for the AC not cooling the house well. He overcharged my unit. After he left my unit sounded like a machine gun was going off and the house wouldn't cool at all. He also failed to put the fasteners back on after charging unit.
Due to the poor craftsmanship, I called another vendor to come out. He pointed out how he clearly mis-diagnosed the problems based on some visual things that were easy to notice. We had to end up repleasing the condenser unit which was most likely damaged by the over charging.

"The initial call was made on a Saturday morning and was answered promptly. The scheduler gave me a time window when someone was available and could be at my home. The technician arrived well within the time window. and promptly went to work to diagnose problems, checking several different parts as well as the thermostat. Once it was determined that an electric igniter was no longer functioning, the technician explained the problem and offered two choices for repair. He determined that he had a replacement igniter on his truck. It was installed and verified that furnace was working properly. Throughout the visit, he was very courteous and made certain that I understood his actions. I am very pleased with the service and the tech.

"Installed a much more efficient system than what had been in place. Recommended I avoid some higher cost upgrades such as the 2 stage
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
XC16, asserting that it wasn't worth the added cost. Also guided me away from zoning the upstairs and downstairs separately, even though this would have resulted in substantial additional fees earned for his company.
After extensive research into this purchase, I had a number of options to review (including using a mini-split) and questions for him and each of the other contractors from whom I solicited bids.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
appeared the least driven in his replies by the size of the potential sale and equally as knowledgeable as anyone with whom I spoke.
He does his own installations and maintenance, using the same workers over and over again (such as
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
). He claims that he won't use subs that would work without him present because his experience has found that their quality is too inconsistent.
He was extremely accommodating to my wife's need to stay cool, loaning us a window unit for her room prior to and during the installation. At one point within the first few months, the fan motor was making excessive noise and without hesitation, he replaced it immediately, believing that it had a factory irregularity that we shouldn't fuss with.
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
also called to check on the cooling capacity a couple of times over the first year plus and to ask if we needed him to come out to make adjustments or to schedule for him to provide free maintenance. Everything has been running fine, but I called him over the weekend for another job and he came out today to clean and tweak this system. He squeezed my two jobs in between others already scheduled and made sure to spend whatever time it took at each location to get the job done thoroughly.
I would heartily recommend
Dallas HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
and Air Conditioning to others (indeed I have) and will continue to use him myself.
