Which reminds me... this is a review for
The guy that came out was friendly, down to earth, and wasn't trying to upsell me on anything. I gave him the same story I gave ADT (great neighborhood, I just want peace of mind at nights, etc.), and he got it. Priced out a system that didn't break the bank (close to 90% below the amount ADT wanted to charge!), and monitoring would be a reasonable $17/month, PLUS no long term commitment. ADT wanted a 3-year contract.
temporary apartment we had a system installed and monitored. Our
understanding was that the services were being moved over from our old
location, where we had fulfilled our contract. We when went to cancel
our services (since it was a temporary apartment), we were told we had
to pay a $700 cancellation fee for terminating the contract. There was
no way we would have intentionally signed a 3-year agreement for a
temporary space and their representative only went over the monthly
charge with us (which was the same as our prior location).
The small medical practice at which I am employed had used Single Source to install security cameras in our office and our office manager recommended them.
Nevertheless, the security camera package he offered looked reasonably priced and the cameras , from my very cursory research, looked to be of good quality,so, I made an appointment with him to install four cameras around my house as well
as a dedicated DVR.
The house was under extensive renovation when
system was up and running as advertised I delayed the final payment. I scrambled to get the internet up and
running so that the technicians from SS could come back out and get the remote features up and running and I wanted to get a monitor so that I could actually see the cameras in action.

contractors over the years and hat I had never been pressed to pay in full before I was satisfied that everything completed and that I was 100% satisfied. He told me that the install was completed and he wanted his final payment that day. And technically he was right; it was completed but I didn't purchase a DVR and cameras as decorations and at this time they were little more than decorations to me because I was unable to see them in action. He was unrelenting so I told him I was going to pay him but I was very displeased and uncomfortable with the turn that this was taking. I told that I would take care of it that night – which I did.
He then advised me he would need payment for the final install /configuration which was scheduled to be done in a few days– before he would come out. I asked, “you want payment for work that you haven’t even done?” He said, “Yes”. I asked if this was typically how he did business and he replied, “it is for customers that have a history of slow payment.” This statement made me laugh. I advised him that I would happily find someone else to finish the install and that in my history of three home remodels and dealing with countless other contractors I had never been treated this way. And furthermore, my wife and I have virtually perfect credit scores and neither of us have ever not paid ANY debt in our lives.
I have to admit he left me seething for days. I honestly don't remember EVER having anyone treat me like that before. I suspect that SS was having a cash flow issue and they were desperate for cash; that is the only reason I can think that someone would treat a customer that shabbily.

My error was starting this process without having internet service hooked up and without having a monitor available at the day of install however, I think that SS should have been savvy enough to realize this potential conflict and either brought a monitor or suggested that we postpone the install.
