We started working with
Gulacy of
in the summer of 2011. He did many small projects around our home and seemed to do them well and in a timely manner. In 2012 he painted our hallway and bedrooms, reset some of our recessed lighting and did all of our landscaping. In 2013 he replaced our water heater and installed a privacy fence around our backyard.
When we decided to renovate our bathroom it seemed like a no brainer to hire him. He estimated the job quickly and came back with a price we found to be reasonable. 15K would gut renovate our bathroom and fix plumbing issues we had with the tub since the day we moved into the house. We had explained that the entire point of the renovation was to not only to update the bathroom but most importantly to make the tub drain.
All of the estimating and job conversations were verbal and that was a big mistake.
The job began on December 2, 2013. I learned that second week after not hearing back from him that he had undergone surgery. I would not have elected to start the job then had I known this, but I let it slide because the man he had doing the work had been to our home before and we trusted him to be alone in our house. But the mistakes started pouring in.
The first big blunder was the placement of the can light over the tub. When I questioned it the worker said that
thought I might want to read in the tub. He had to redo the ceiling. Next, I had asked for 2 recessed shelves in the bathtub.
had
helped me come up with the design. When I came home from work there was only one shelf. The tile that I had special ordered was laid haphazardly and had to be ripped out and replaced. In all of these instances
admitted to not
communicating with his worker and the repairs were done in a couple of days each so the time added up.
As he recovered and we got deeper into the winter, he was not responsive to me. I was only communicating with the worker for most of the job. The worker did fix a lot of the mistakes but there were a lot of mistakes. When
would show up he would complain about how busy he was on other projects - not mine.
As we got into March we were extremely frustrated that a job estimated to take 4 - 5 weeks was still dragging on. He came over to collect his final payment and we tested the tub. The plumbing had not been fixed and the water poured into my basement. He blamed the worker and had a plumber come over to make the repair. The plumber charged me $400 dollars to unclog the tub drain. This should never have been an additional expense as his was hired to fix the plumbing issues from the
beginning. On his last visit here, I was home alone with my 1 year old. I told him that I was concerned about what he was going to charge us since the job had taken so long and there were so many additional repairs. I continued to question why he had charged me additionally for the plumbing. He threw a temper tantrum in the middle of my kitchen and stormed out of my house, then stormed back in and continued to yell at me. I was horrified.
When we asked for the final bill he failed to deduct for the materials that he had me purchase (as he was too busy), and left off 2 of our previous deposits that he had already cashed. When my husband questioned the bill, his wife responded that she would take off the amount that we had already paid but that the materials in question (the bathroom mirror and the paint) were not included in our estimate. Our estimate was verbal so it is his word against mine. I was told the entire project would cost 15K and that would include materials (like the mirror and paint).
In the weeks following the job we needed several repairs which kept us from even using the bathroom and hired other companies to help us since we were so upset with how he treated me. We emailed him in June to tell him of some of the damages that we had covered but that we needed him to cover 2 of the larger problems. We invited him back to see some of the work that needed to be completely redone before having them repaired but we never heard back from him.
We are so upset that someone we trusted and paid a lot of money to would cause so much damage to our house and be so careless about it. Our fence ended up covered in stains from the wrong nails being used and some of the planks are cracked from poor installation. Neither of the two gates work. We have had to repair many large pieces of the bathroom that were not installed properly. We were hoping that he would take responsibility to make things right and he has not. We are heartbroken about the damages he made to our house. Some of the damages we cannot afford to fix but our checks cleared.

It went very well overall.
was very responsive and we were able to set up an appointment with
on a Sat. morning. He was exactly on time (same with follow up appointments) and was a pleasure to discuss the job with him. We immediately got a feeling of trust. After some misunderstandings on a few details (almost everything was handled efficiently through email) we signed a contract and then
took over. I would estimate that overall it took them about two weeks to do the complete job, including taking care of a few
ends at the completion of the job. They also subcontracted a concrete company to take care of a sagging concrete slab that was under the old shed and that we were able to reutilize. They left the site very clean for a construction job.
We were a little disappointed that they did not provide warranty on their work, but we were told they don't do that on exterior structures like sheds and that may be an industry standard. However,
told us (i.e. verbally) that he would be available for minor repairs due to construction faults, if necessary, during the first 12 months. The only other minor complaint we would have is that
was a little pushy to get the payment, and I had to ask for an invoice (she was expecting me to hand the check to the last worker on site), but I would say that is just a matter of form. Perhaps a better way to handle payment would be to invoice a customer with a "payment due" date, rather than expect a check immediately as soon as the last itty bit of work has been completed.
Bottom line, we are quite satisfied with the final product and the relationship with

For this recent "repair" we had some issues with the start/finish time, BUT this repair was not their usual job and they were fitting us in between bigger jobs as a service to a former customer. They had originally provided exceptional service with the addition back in 2001. Big jobs, like the addition, are their specialty. They were punctual, courteous, thorough, and became members of the family. When you do a remodel like this, you want someone that you feel comfortable with.

Went well. Did what we asked for a great price. When other contractor did a no show, no call, disappearing act, this company filled in and did exceptional work.

Our work relationship went well at first, two week in he was paid in full with only a small amount to finish and he never showed back to work. He left tools on the job and wouldn't return phone calls. First it was his dad died, his dog died, and now possibly in jail. He is unreliable and a fraud. His work was good but, then he disappeared. He came with drama. Someone broke into his car while working and we he didn't want us to file a police report. Then he went to jail for sure while working on our project. Beware.

had previously installed a skylight in my family room and had remodeled two full baths and a half bath. I had been quite satisfied with their work and decided to get the last bathroom remodeled. This time I “knew the ropes” and was able to tell
Columbus Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
rather efficiently what I wanted in the way of materials for the bathroom.

did the work, as he had done on the other bathrooms. He is quite pleasant to have in the house. He is always quiet, respectful and cleans up every day when he finishes work. Things went pretty smoothly until he started to replace the flooring. Built over the concrete basement floor, the floor was not level. In order to

tile over it, he had a multiple-step job to level it out, which took longer than was originally estimated. He explained what needed to be done, and it came out exactly as he had predicted - that the floor of the bathroom would now be higher than the floor of the adjacent hallway. So after the tile was laid,

chose to install a marble threshold to accommodate the difference. It looks fine and solved the problem.
The bathroom looks great - freshly painted walls and entrance door, repaired ceiling, new fan, new shower door, new grab-bar in the shower, new shower hardware, new tile floor, new

toilet, new comfort-height cabinet, new Heritage Marble sink, new lighting fixture, new mirror, and new towels bars and toilet paper holder. All four of my bathrooms now have access panels to the plumbing.
The kitchen ceiling now looks updated, with the old fluorescent lights and ugly plastic ceiling sheets gone forever. I now have two banks of recessed cans on dimmers, allowing me many different lighting options in the kitchen, from all the bright light you would ever need, to a subdued night-light look.

is meticulous in his work, and made sure there were no gaps around existing cupboards and wallpaper.
I had a 39-year-old utility sink with an old butcher-block rim around it. Now I have an updated and clean look with a new sink, new hardware and a custom-made countertop over my existing cabinet.

This is a small company with a great reputation. A few years ago, I called about ten of their refences and heard over and over again that customers would have them back as there were house improvements to be made. That is exactly what I have done - I decided on an encore from Encore! Bravo - we appreciate the fine work and attention to detail.

The process itself was messy, but the

We shopped a bunch of different providers.
Columbus Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
said he would come out to give us an official quote and do the job if he was lowest, and gave us a ballpark estimate over the phone. I gave measurements and took pictures. He was lowest by a bit, and because he was on Angie's list, we decided to get an official quote and go with him. I called the office and he was on vacation for a week. When he finally returned, he didn't call me back- I called him. I asked him to come out to do the job and he told me the job was too small. It is bad business to have someone wait nearly a month for you to get back from vacation and then tell them the job isn't worth his time- not enough money for him. I can't believe someone would turn down any business, especially someone on Angie's list. Further, why would you even give a ballpark? I would steer clear from anyone who turns down a $6k job because it is below him.
