Great customer service keeps painters on top

Winning a Super Service Award for seven consecutive years hasn't given Dan McClurg, president of Buckeye House Painting, an inflated ego. On the contrary, it's reminded him how important his employees have been to the success of his business. "We're a big family," says McClurg. "The key to our success is our top-notch painters. I value their trustworthiness, their honesty and their high commitment to serving our customers."

Stepping up his company's customer service, Buckeye, which is licensed to serve Columbus and its surrounding communities, offers free color consultations, and gives exact quotes that don't change after the job is done.

Shari Ayers of Columbus says she solicited bids from three companies on Angie's List to paint the interior of her two-story cathedral style entryway and living room. She ultimately chose Buckeye for their reasonable, comprehensive bid. "They were able to schedule the work quickly and completed the work impeccably," Ayers says. "When they left, everything was completely back together and looked great."

Most often, McClurg says his crew paints foyers and great rooms, because homeowners don't have the proper tools to reach that high. On these interior walls, they use a durable, green product line by Sherwin-Williams, Duration Home, with low odor and low VOCs. However, the company also offers exterior painting and pressure washing services.

In keeping with his green thumb, McClurg says Buckeye donates 150 unused gallons of paint to Habitat for Humanity each year. Additional community involvement includes sponsoring the Peggy Bock Memorial Race for Hope, a 5k run benefiting cancer patients. McClurg also volunteers as a mentor for a local sixth grader in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. But, he says, most rewarding of all is the work he does every day and the feedback he gets from Angie's List members who appreciate his services.

"At the end of each job, we step back and see the work we've accomplished," McClurg says. "It's instant gratification."
