"I hired [owner] Helen Ross of Personal Touch Decorating to remove wallpaper from my dining room and formal living room.

"She charged $330 for one room, which was overpriced. She also charged $15 an hour for wall repairs. It took her 22 hours to complete the job. I dismissed her after she removed the wallpaper from the living room, because she tore up the walls.

"To add insult to injury, in the process of stripping the wallpaper, she soaked the drop ceiling of my basement. Her response was to let it dry and paint over it.

"It cost $660 to get wallpaper removed out of a 12-by-12 foot room, plus I was out the materials to replace the ceiling tiles, which amounted to $120.

"She never contacted me again regarding the drop ceiling. When I asked her about replacing the tiles, she hung up."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like Helen to pay for the ceiling tiles that she damaged."

COMPANY RESPONSE: Helen Ross, owner, Personal Touch Decorating

"The member hired me to remove 16 single rolls of wallpaper. I did the job for $330, a $150 discount to help cover the cost of the repairs that would have to be done. She knew this from our first meeting.

"The wallpaper had been put up without primer. She damaged her own wall; that's why she called me.

"I'm excellent at repairs. Her walls looked like glass when I was finished. As far as some water going down behind the baseboards while scrubbing the glue off the wall, occasionally it happens.

"I assured the member the original ceiling tiles had yellowed from age, but I would treat all her other ceiling stains with a sealer, match the paint and clean the ones I could. They all needed to be replaced, because they were discolored. I did not feel I should pay to replace all the aged ceiling tiles."
