Canceled Columbus car warranty causes confusion

COMPLAINT: Nettie White, Columbus, Ohio

"Nations Safe Drivers of Boca Raton, Fla., mailed a card to my house offering an extended car warranty on my 2003 Spectra. The warranty was supposed to last through 2012. When I bought a new car, I called to cancel the warranty.

"They immediately sent papers for me to sign to get money back. After that, they seemed to not want to bother with me. I paid the account off in June 2009, but I'm due at least $515.65. I continue to get the runaround and just want the refund.

"I have had a representative tell me I was canceled and reinstated. Each representative tells me it's someone else's problem or hangs up on me. I have also been promised return phone calls that were not made."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like a refund of $515.65."

"Nation Safe Drivers does not sell extended warranties. We do not market our products directly to customers. Nation Safe Drivers provides the towing benefit in the member's warranty. The towing benefit is part of the warranty and cannot be canceled separately.

"The member called our office about the warranty and requested to cancel the coverage. We explained to her that she needed to contact Interstate National Dealer Services to cancel her coverage and that they would contact us once this process was complete.

"To date, we have never received a request from Interstate National Dealer Services to cancel her towing benefit."
