2 simple tips to prevent lower back pain

Although many treatment options are available for patients with lower back pain, it is much better to prevent the problem. One provider explains how to do it.

How often should I get a chiropractic adjustment?

The goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to improve the structural alignment and physical function of your body. How often you should get an adjustment depends on your individual condition and pain level.

Angie's List medical licensing database

Use this Angie's List database to find the website of your state's medical licensing agency, through which you can confirm that a medical provider is licensed and whether the provider has any disciplinary actions cited on his or her record.

Back pain? Before turning to surgery, discuss options with your doctor

Back surgery isn’t meant for everyone with back pain. Discuss with your orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon whether doing nothing at all, physical therapy or chiropractic care might be better for you.

"Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
is my primary care physician. She is incredibly well-educated and has an encylopedic knowledge about the body and how proper mechanics and nutrition keep it healthy. I have hypermobility, which means all my ligaments are

, so I need a great deal of help to keep myself together. She does an incredible job. She uses low-force techniques which do not further injure my ligaments. She works together with the prolotherapy specialists( who inject my ligaments to restore their strength and function) by documenting what bones are prone to repeated subluxation. These MD's and DO's respect and welcome her valued opinions.

But, she also listens to concerns I have. I will research problems and bring information to her, and she will explain and include any new treatments that will help my situation. I have had many chiropractors and MD's and DO's in all the places I have lived and she is the most complete physician I have ever known. She addresses every possible source of a problem, whether it be misalignment of bones, or muscle spasms, or nutritional deficiencies. I am grateful every day for her care. I do not know where I would be without her.

"First of all I've never been to a chiropractor before, so I have nothing to compare the "techniques" or types of services that were performed to. The staff was quite friendly and so was the doctor for that matter. When asked why I had come in, from both the front desk and the doctor, I told them about the Angie's list coupon that I saw, which included a free consultation. I didn't print out and bring the coupon with me, but they both seemed to know what I was talking about.

So obviously I'm expecting a consultation, and Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
obliges by asking if I want to come back with him so he can perform some manipulations. Of course, I go back, ready to tell him all my problems and ready to learn how to fix myself up.
After about 10-15 minutes of neck cracking and back snapping, and a some gentle spine hammering and back buffing, Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
hasn't really asked me anything about my pain. By this point all I've learned is that there's another Angie's list promotion offering $10 off of manipulations (so $39, instead of the usual $49)...All right... Thanks for letting me know, I'll keep that in mind.

The manipulations end, and he finally asks me if I have any questions. So I ask about my pains, all my questions from stretches to sleeping on my side. He answers relatively vaguely I think, shows me a basic stretch and then directs me to his website for further stretches (not a very good resource by the way, I checked). The coupon is in the back of my mind and I ask if I could get some x-rays, I ask if that would help. He sort of brushes that notion aside and, while walking me back to the front, tells me that if, when I come back, it looks like I need x-rays, he'll "throw them in for free". Hmm.. He then tells the girl at the front to give me the Angie's list discount that he mentioned before, the $10 off discount! In other words the discount that isn't even on the Angie's list site he gives me! But I pay. I'm not one to argue, I'll pay the $39 because he rendered services. I guess he answered a few questions too. I want to call him a nice guy--and certainly he might be-- but from a professional stand point, part of me thinks he was putting up the nice guy front.

To be honest, I felt lured into the manipulation, "forced" to pay for it when I didn't really ask for it (I wanted the free consult). I was "discouraged" from getting the x-rays--did he want to charge for another $39 or $49 session? I may not be right, that may not have been his mindset, but I can't argue with my gut feeling on this--this is simply my honest account.

In summary, he cracked my back and neck, pointed me to his website for stretches. I felt relief the instant he popped my bones, but nothing after I walked out the door--I felt neither more pain nor any relief. I wasted my time, learned nothing, and paid for it. On the back of his business card it says that if you don't feel better you can get your money back. That's reassuring I guess, but I haven't bothered. My neck and back still hurt and still don't know where to go. The only benefit of this visit was crossing off chiropractors from the list of possible solutions to my problem.

"Drs.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
and Walker at Advances
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
Center have been a vital part of my ongoing quest for
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
. I first saw them over 5 years ago when I was frustrated from my overall health. While I was skeptical at first, I began to feel some relief after my first few visits. They use the Activator technique to adjust you so there is no pain as they identify a problem & apply the correct treatment. I suffered from severe headaches, joint pain, chronic fatigue and depression. They taught me how to listen to my body and take an active role in getting healthier. I now visit them weekly to help prevent a problem instead of waiting for the problems to accumulate and feel miserable.

Their staff is as exceptional as they are. I have always been able to get an appointment the same day. They are incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable and lots of fun, too! It is always an enjoyable experience to visit their office!

"It’s run by a chiropractor. They do massages for sports injuries. My chiropractor is good. One thing I like is that there is no high pressure sale. There are some doctors who sign you for the rest of your life. The chiropractor I see will treat a specific problem and will leave it to you to decide whether you want to go back or not. He doesn’t try to sell you any package. You get a massage with each treatment by a masseur. Sometimes, they use an electrical stimulator as well. They also happen to be approved for my insurance. So, it only costs me $8 when I go there. The chiropractor also does a real good job. If they do it in the old fashioned way, they

’t just use the machine. He adjusts the spine by using his hands. The office is great. I have always been able to get in. I usually call in at the last minute and I think they keep a certain number of appointments available for last minute calls. The office environment is nice, attractive and pleasant. The nice thing they do is that the doctor shows you different exercises for whatever problem you are having so that you can treat yourself at home.

"They came to our school with a promotion. They offered free 10 or 15 minutes massage and if you signed up that day, they offered another 15 minutes free massage. I went to check it out. They did some pre-diagnosis stuff like x-rays. When I went back to get the results, I felt like they were really pushing for everybody to get into it. They kept saying that the insurance company would cover the charges; it would cost so many thousand dollars and that we had to sign then and there. I just didn’t ring right to me. So I didn’t go any further with them. I didn’t pay anything and just took their free promotion. I had a fall and did have a stiff neck. I thought that it might be worth checking it out. They showed that I probably was holding my body incorrectly because of the fall. I probably could benefit from some massage or chiropractic work. But it was like months and months of service and follow up. It sounded like they were trying to get a lot of everybody. They were very friendly and nice. They seemed pleasant. They had the massage, then a chiropractor would work on you and then you would have to work on the therapeutic machines."

"I drove 21/2 hours to have my daughter seen by Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
in1999. She had immediate relief from her low back pain and had several follow up visits to make sure the problem was corrected. About 2 years ago when I started to have severe pain in my hips and lower back, I decided to see Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
myself. Luckily, now I live in the Columbus area. I have had so much relief that I continue to go about once a month just to keep my spine in alignment and keep me out of pain. I am a true believer of NUCCA chiropractics. The adjustments are very gentle and painless. The receptionist is very friendly and always tries to accommodate my days and times and occasional changes in dates. I am usually seem in 5-10 minutes or less and the treatment only takes a few minutes. You do have to do your own submitting to insurance companies. I was able to get my earlier insurance carrier to cover it even though it was out of network for me because no one else in network provided this type of service. My husband just started going because of neck pain and had relief after the first visit. (They also will give a family discount!) Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
is very personable, takes interest in his patients, and doe a great job of explaining what is going on and needed.

"Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
has been able to help my general health issues through a variety of traditional treatments, posture changes that he's recommended, homeopathic medicines and lifestyle changes (dietary mainly). He also has a very calming and centering personality which I feel encourages the trust you should have with your doctor. ...more />
He's not fancy but his office and treatments are straight-forward and timely. His office does not accept insurance so all charges are paid out of pocket but they take credit, checks and cash.

I really cannot recommend Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
enough. He just has a very thorough knowledge of holistic health and again, is very intuitive in his care.

"My wife and I continue to see Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
because he makes it so that we do not have to continue going back so often. From the very beginning Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
took it upon himself to make sure that we understood what chiropractic care really was. Before he started any kind of treatment he wanted us to really understand that chiropractic care is really just another type of medicine. He asked us whether or not we had every had chiropractic care in the past and when we told him that we had not he asked us to watch a video about what it is. Following the video he took the time to explain what exactly the video meant. He gave me a good example of how chiropractic care was like a sprinkler system. If your sprinkler system went on the
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
and the lawn turns brown there are two ways of approaching the problem. One way is to use chemicals on the problem and the other way is to take the rock off the of hose so that the water can get thorough. He has a very good preventative approach to medicine. I have recommended other people to Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
in the past.

"Their whole staff is kind, amazing and wonderful. Everyone is educated and very knowledgeable; they really know what they are doing. They are good with kids and operate a very family friendly office. The appointments are flexible if you need to reschedule and very punctual. There are two chiropractors and both of them are wonderful, they take time to answer and explain questions. They are very encouraging people."

"I have seen Dr.
Columbus Chiropractors Provider Name Locked
off and on over the years. I'm always happy when I call after months or years and can often get in to see him the same day. He has good hours (until 6:00) for working people on M-W-F. He is always pleasant, remembers me and my issues, and listens well. His treatment for me is effective."
