Can a missing cap clog a sewer line?

Dear Angie: We have a clogged sewer line, which the first plumber could not unclog. A second plumber ran a camera and said that the missing sewer cap was in the drain, causing the back up; he quoted me $1,300 to break up some concrete, retrieve the cap and put a new cap on. Does that seem like a reasonable solution and price?

"The provider stayed on the low end of the estimate, which was greatly appreciated. It was an emergency repair because there are tenants living in the home. The provider was very responsive and remedied the issue quickly. I was very happy with the service and the provider.

"Day One: The Job began on

second about 9 am. The crew removed all necessary plants, saving desired plants and discarded anything unwanted. By the end of day one, they had almost completely excavated all four walls. We paid a third of the total cost, ~$4000, about halfway through the first day.
Day Two: This day consisted of the completion of the excavation, prepping the walls, and putting on a

of concrete, followed by sealer, onto the walls. The crew ended a little earlier on this day because of excessive rain. They tried to protect the walls as best one can. There never seemed to be more that about 4-6 inches of water in the trench, and the integrity of the trench remaind very solid.
Day Three: On the Forth of

, one worker came and rolled the tar onto the walls. This took about half a day.
Day Four: This day consisted of the installation of the new drainage system and downspouts, as well as the addition of gravel to create pitch and stabilize pipes in the trench. The Inspector for the pipes showed up early that morning, but he barely looked in the trenches. The inspector for the walls never come to look at the work. Now I am no inspector, but I would think you would want to go into the trench and look closely, but I guess that's why so many people get bad work done. I was very satisfied with the way that everything had been done, both to the walls and within the trenches, so I'm not too concerned. The crew were very good at explaining what each process was and the walls and drainage looked fabulous when they were finished. The crew met my request to backfill the gravel all the way up on one section of the house. The section of driveway was also prepped for concrete. This day also had some rain, but ended with the work almost complete.
Day Five: The driveway was poured and a small stoop was added (at no additional cost) to bring the door to driveway drop off more to code. The rest of the gravel, backfill, and Topsoil was put into place. They replanted the requested plants and allowed my wife to direct them in location. They replanted grass were requested. The rest of bill was paid at the end of the day, ~$8000.
Notes:Price: Now I know that I gave them a B on price and that is because I feel that similar quality work could have been done by other companies that I looked at for less, ~$1000. But no other company was able to offer the speed of schedule that
Cleveland Sewer Services Provider Name Locked
did. This speed is what was our deciding factor and for us the price was worth it. There was also an issue of water usage which I will discuss later.
Punctuality: Now I gave them A, the only issues that I had at all was the initial scheduling of the week which work would be preformed, which I found out was a byproduct of the concrete availability, weather, and how other jobs in front of mine were going/went. Once a date was scheduled I felt their punctuality was impeccable.
Responsiveness: I gave them an A; however, I did have some issues with getting some answers to certain questions. Again, I found out these were more a byproduct of the issues I mentioned in Punctuality. On location I felt every member of the crew was very responsive to my questions and concerns.Other: One issue I had not realized was how much of our water would be used. This was a cost that I was not planning on. The crew used our exterior faucet for running a drainage test, cleaning the walls, their tools, the driveway & street, the siding of the house, and the watering of the plants. I won't know the final cost for my increased water usage, but based on my normal usage it will be a spike. Let me make it clear that I never felt like they wasted water. The use was necessary, just didn't realize that I was going to be the one paying for it. I also had to have the Central Air Conditioning unit removed in order to preform the work. For anyone else using this company that does not go with
Cleveland Sewer Services Provider Name Locked
's subcontractor (Which is an additional cost) here is some advise. Definitely get it out at least a day before the work starts. They were able to move very quickly because we had removed it the friday before the work started. Schedule the rehook-up of the AC unit for the last day and let them know which wall it goes on. I waited for the wall to be done and had to wait almost a week to have my service provider re install the unit. None of that was
Cleveland Sewer Services Provider Name Locked
's fault, but something I didn't think about.
Because of the cost of the work, we were not able to do the rest of the driveway. If and when we do our driveway, I would definitely use them again. I felt that the crew did a great job and they were very fast!

showed right on time for the house inspection. After the inspection, it was determined the drain for the laundry tub [ which had been backing up and flooding the laundry room floor] needed to be snaked. He ran the snake about 25 feet out. Problem solved. I now know all the plumbing in the house [built in 1930] is in good order. I can also do laundry without having to mop afterwards.

"Highly recommended! They were prompt, friendly and very professional. They showed me the blockage through their live camera and I could tell that it was my sewer drain below the house. The work went smoothly and they were done in a day. (Interestingly, another vendor (RR) gave me an estimate three times the price that involved

"Our main sewer line was clogged (I found out when water from a load of laundry didn't drain properly and flooded part of the basement floor). They were able to come out the day I called, which was nice. They came promptly, were courteous, polite, and professional. They put down floor coverings so they wouldn't dirty the carpet that they had to walk and carry equipment over. They did the job that we needed done. We have had this done a few times in the last few years, most recently about 9 months ago. This is the first time we called this company. The work they did was pretty standard for this problem, but they charged quite a bit more than the plumber I used before (that's why I gave them a C for price). But I would call them again if I needed someone to come out in a hurry."

"The service was great. After clearing the clogged toilet and finding that my sewer line was clogged with tree roots and probably cracked, the decision was made to replace it. They made all the arrangements and were back in a couple of days. This was a difficult undertaking because there was a large tree sitting above the existing sewer line. They went around the tree to replace the sewer line, which I was very happy about because I didn't want to take the tree down and

the shade. The price was very, very reasonable and the work very professional. I would call them again in a heart beat. I really appreciate their service this time especially because I had my niece and

"They are very nice. When the city first let us know, they were ready to install new sewers, we had a meeting. He was the only person that did that kind of work who showed up at the meeting and gave us some helpful info. He was the only person in that profession to show up. I had about 7 or 8 people come to give an estimate. At least 4 said they would give an estimate, but never did.

was very nice and took care of the issue. They even moved a few things around for me. His wife works in the office and is very sweet.

from the company was very amicable and professional. I didn't get a new estimate for the work until all of it was done and the bill was significantly higher than the original estimate. It was OK, because they saved me $ by really working to cut the roots from the sewer line, rather than excavating. The problem came later when another plumber came out to re-seat 1st floor toilet. He said there was a root ball in the sewer line obstructing it.

came out a second time to do the SAME line as before, but in opposite direction. They initially wanted to charge me $100 for the 1.5 hours of work, which was not horrible - but then said needed to come back to take toilet off & snake the other way, because they couldn't get it. NET NET - weren't able to finish the job, charged me an additional $200 anyway - and didn't replace the wax seal that they damaged when they unseated toilet. I was irate when I called and the owner argued with me about everything as if I was an idiot.

"They were right on time. Both men very courteous, efficient, and knowledgeable. They went right to work, explained the results, and cleaned up after. The estimate was exactly as I was quoted and their 1 year warranty (better than most) was explained to me."

"When we moved into our new residence in April 2006 all the plumbing seemed fine. Then a few weeks ago we notice a foul odor in the basement. We called

and they agreed to come out the next day to assess the problem. The

contractor,

Szaikiewicz, explained the likely cause and suggested remedies. He and his associate snaked the main sewer line and solved the problem. They did the work in a thorough, professional manner at a very reasonable price. I would recommend their company to my friends without hesitation."
