"The small back porch on our 80+-year-old house was slowly collapsing because the brick piers holding it up were unsound. I needed somebody to fix the porch's foundation. I also needed somebody to rebuild the porch itself -- its floor was rotting and the joists holding it up were failing. Pat previously had done nice work on tuckpointing my front steps, so I contracted with him for this masonry job. It was the right call. He's very skilled, honest, conscientious, and courteous. Pat assessed the situation and recommended a course of action: remove the piers; install footers, as necessary; rebuild the piers; tuckpoint the masonry steps; and fix the back wall of the house, which needed tuckpointing and holes filled in. He executed the solution expertly and at a fair price. Furthermore, at my request, he recommended a contractor to handle the porch rebuild. I took his recommendation. Again, the right call. Pat instills that kind of trust. The contractor pulled the porch away to expose the masonry and used temporary supports to hold up the porch roof. On separate days, Pat performed the masonry work, which included installing partial concrete footers. The contractor then returned to rebuild and reinstall the porch on its now sound foundation. Pat took the lead in coordinating his and the contractor's work. And he was outstanding in communicating with me throughout the process. The end result is a porch that is rock solid, safe, and looks great.

"Horrible. They failed in every way.
If it was just in craftsmanship I would not be so upset but these are not good people.
It was always difficult to reach anyone but the secretary and she flat out lied on two occasions with regard to the date that they would be out to finish work. The concrete porch was poured sloppily, causing dozens of pea sized bits of concrete to splash onto my siding, which I spent several hours trying to remove but many will never come off. When finished with the lower concrete porch they left equipment and supplies in my yard and driveway for 5 days - I was parking in the street because they kept saying that they would come back the next day. Additionally, 15 sqft of grass died. They installed a second floor deck over what was supposed to be a water tight roof to keep the lower porch dry. The deck is poorly done with nails bent over, uneven planks, mismatched cuts and no end pieces to give it a finished look. All this took nearly two months, I was patient but I would give them a call after a week and ask for a estimate of when they would be back and the secretary would say "I'll call you back" which she rarely did and even then she would say they are on their way and then nobody shows up.

About two weeks after the last check was sent I notices some "stains" in the wood in the

and grove ceiling. I recognized them as the

that are left behind after water dries from wet wood. I immediately called and they said that it was probably the gutters were not sealed good enough and that they would come out to fix it. Three weeks and three calls later a guy was out working in the dark trying to fix it. I would come home from work after a storm and continue to see wet ceiling boards in more and more places. I told them that the caulk did not fix it. no response and the "mailbox was full" so no new messages could be left for weeks. finally I found a number of one of the employees and called and said I was really very upset that the ceiling looked damaged and that they had not fixed the problem. The said that they would come out on Saturday to look and never came. I left a few more messages and finally someone answered. I yelled and told him they had one more

to show that they were not going to fail me. They never came or called back.
I tried adding more caulk but it did not help. I believe it is in the roof and the upper deck will need to be pulled up so the roof below can be resealed. The wood ceiling will either need to be replaced or painted because the stains go across the length of the porch and it looks bad.

"Scheduled and came within 3 weeks of scheduling...was a coupon product so likely backed up. They came at a time I was not home so unable to talk with them about it. Job was OK, there were places that were not adequately mortared and places that have cracked already which might mean the mortar was not good or that they did not grind out underneath and just covered a crack. So fair job

is a very respectful and competent tradesman. He got a B on Quality because I had to point out some stuff that he overlooked. When I did point it out, he took care of it immediately. He got a B on responsiveness because I had to wait for over a month after buying the Big Deal for my appointment.

"I found the Chimney Guys here on Angie's List. One of three companies I called. The first company never showed and the other one suggesting rebuilding.
Cleveland Masonry Contractors Provider Name Locked
came by when he said he would to take a look at the chimney. He promptly emailed me an estimate. He stated that only tuckpointing was needed and only on the top third as the rest was sound.
The work was scheduled promptly. There was an issue with weather and
Cleveland Masonry Contractors Provider Name Locked
promptly called to reschedule. On the appointed date he showed up himself with two employees. He supervised the beginning of the job before leaving to check on another. The workers were very professional and did a great job. They cleaned up the yard and the neighbor's driveway before they left.
Cleveland Masonry Contractors Provider Name Locked
even had them touch up one of the chimney caps that was not on the original estimate.
I was very pleased with the honesty, quality of the work and their professionalism and will definitely use them again and recommmend them to others !

"Overall a very negative experience. Owner was a very poor listener, was unwilling to fully correct the situation, and seems to have no control over quality of work performed by his crews. He does not know the definition of the term "customer service". I would judge them to be "complete slobs" in the end result."
