"I called the company for an estimate and one was emailed to me within a week. I called up for insurance and workmens compensation copies and they were also emailed to me. " A week and half later they called to tell me they would be out on Monday August 25 the to perform the service. The two man crew arrived at 9:30 AM. The sweeped the driveway and then they filled all the cracks. They waited about 15 minutes for crack filler to fill in completely and then they proceeded to seal coat the driveway. They took there time and did a through job and were very neat. They did not run the sealer on any of the grass or sidewalk. They cleaned up and put down
so no one could drive over the driveway. The employees were very polite and considerate and I was very pleased with the entire process. I would definitely use them again and I will also recommend them to any one who is looking for asphalt repair or replacement.

"
and crew (mostly family) did a good job and were a pleasure to have around.. They worked efficiently and got the job completed in just one week. There were some" details that could have been done better but they were responsive and all of them got taken care of. Overall, I'm very happy with out new driveway.

"Overall it went well. He was very polite when he gave me an estimate. I decided to go with him off of the strength of his Angie's List reviews. He did the job and I am pleased" with the outcome. His men were polite and professional. I saw that he had included the sealing of the asphalt in some of the other jobs. Not mine. He did offer to come back in a few months and for $300 more, he would seal the driveway for me. That is the only disappointment, I would have liked to have that included like some of the other reviews.

If the state requires a contractor's license, then he needs to have a license in each state he intends to work in - plus state/local business licenses as applicable.

This does not mean there are not a lot of contractors who cross state lines without proper licensing - the penalties in may cases are not real severe and are just a fine, not criminal, so many take the chance.

As you say - argh  - many contractors are not really businessmen and have zero legal education, so many people get burned.

?

To overlay, with proper adhesion so it does not peel off, you first need to prepare the surface - typically heavy watercutting or sandblasting for concrete over concrete, or high-pressure presure washing and an asphalt (NOT water based cutback) adhesion coat before asphalt overlay.

Because of the prep cost, a concrete overlay commonly costs more than just tearingit out and replacing it, and if you are replacing it due to cracking and breaking up those cracks will almost always propogate or "reflect" through the new layer too with concrete. Ditto with asphalt overlay, though using a crack-stopper fabric can reduce (but usually not eliminate) that.

If just repairing ice melt/freeze thaw deterioration, a cementatious epoxy overlay can be used, though its life is less (normally) than new concrete. Usually used for limited areas like garage area pad, not entire driveways.

Asphalt overlays over somewhat deteriorated concrete can work well, but if not prepared and high-pressure (about 5000 psi or higher) cleaned to remove ALL deteriorated material, they can peel off because they stuck to deteriorated loose material rather than sound concrete. Again, can cost as much for a 1-1/2 to 2 inch overlay as for a 3-4 inch full replacement by the time you are done, because the prep work is labor intensive.

Even if this is just a surficial deterioration issue, I would talk to several contractors (site visit) about alternatives and let them bid both an overlay and a replacement (or whichever options they are inclined to bid on), then after getting opinions from all three and bids for all options, make your decision. I am pretty confident that total replacement will be both the most recommended and the cheapest, at probably about $2-4/SF for asphalt or 4-6/SF for concrete - commonly nearer the lower than higher range for most jobs and locales. If the overlay and replacement cost is pretty close,I would go with the replacement because overlays over concrete are always somewhat iffy as to how long they will last, especially concrete overlays.

For cost comparison, except in extreme freeze-thaw country, you can figure a concrete drive will last about twice as long as an asphalt one.

work, but I'll do that when I have the money. I have told him over the phone and by email to just do what I paid for, the driveway was coated 2 years ago and is not that bad. Yes, it could use extra, though unnecessary work. I'll do that work when I have the money.

I requested a quote online in late June and within two weeks the company emailed a quote to me. They charged twice as much as two other companies that I had requested quotes from, but based on the strength of the Angie's List reviews, I decided to accept the quote. The original date scheduled was rained out, but the company was able to reschedule for the next day. The finished work looks great, and there was no mess left behind.

In early Spring, I called three Angie's List recommended sealcoating companies. All three came out promptly to give me an estimate.
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
was not the highest and it wasn't the lowest but the owner,
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
Chiappero, explained how his process for sealcoating and the product they would use. The others didn't and although I know squat about sealcoating, it was nice to have the information if I wanted to do research.
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
kept in touch with me. He answered all my questions promptly via e-mail and as soon as the weather got nice enough to begin thinking of sealcoating,
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
e-mailed me with possible dates for the job - weather permitting. Luckily we selected a date when the weather cooperated.
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his crew were at our house at 10:00. They blew off the drive, swept it, sealed/filled the cracks and then with a long-handle brush they carefully sealcoated the edges. No damage to the grass or adjacent brick or concrete. The driveway was then sealcoated using a brush. It was done with a squeegee. The job was done very thoroughly. We have a rather long drive. They took over two hours to complete the job.
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
stated that this sealcoating should last at least two years, if not more.
I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The appointment was arranged by phone earlier in the week for Friday 5/18/2012 at 11:00am. I waited until 11:50 am and contacted Holland because the salesman did not show up. The contact at Holland asked me if I knew the salesman name, and if it was a man or a woman, as they have several salespeople. I gave her my address and phone number, and she would investigate who was the sales contact. Then began the three cell phone calls from the salesman. The 1st: I answered 'hello', then I heard some noises which sounded like breathing or coughing and other stuff. I kept saying hello, but there was no response and the call went dead on their end. That whole call maybe lasted 15-20 seconds. The second call from the cell phone was about 30 seconds later, but it only rang once. Then, a minute later, a third call from the cell number.
The salesman asks for me and I respond who I was. He begins by stating the following: " I don't know what to tell you. I lost my appointment book (or list) and I missed an appointment with you." He then goes on to say, " do you want to reschedule or just forget about it? This messed you up more than it did me, so I can understand." I could not believe what I was hearing. He went on to day that was in another part of Cuyahoga County and wanted to know what I wanted to do. I responded the other times I was free, none of which included today (5/18/2012). But then I told him that was ok, referencing that I was done with Holland. Things happen with missed appointments or being late and I understand. But my issue is that this salesman did not sound like he cared to want my business. In fact, I don't recall an apology from him, and me might have. I don't recall because I felt he did not care if I rescheduled or not. He did not care about trying to keep this customer. If I were him, I would be giving the customer a time he would some by to make up for missed appointment as soon as possible, but he instead gave me the option of just dropping it, i.e. not using Holland at all. How could I feel comfortable dealing with a company that handles a potential new customer? I didn't feel I mattered with that company. First impressions are everything and that one was bad.

The job went very well. The asphalt that was replaced was between a sandstone sidewalk on one side and a row of bushes on the other. This made some of the work a little awkward but
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his crew did the job exactly as I wanted without damaging anything near the work area.

I had a hard time finding some one with the equipment to do an asphalt drive that is eight and a half feet wide with a machine. When I heard that the Royak Brothers might be able to do the job I contacted them and asked for an estimate. Their estimator came out when I was not home, looked over the site and sent me an estimate. The proposal was very basic and did not include many details of the project. In order to be sure that we were both thinking of the same things I sent them an email with details of the project. I called
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
, the estimator, and asked if the company could check my email and assure me that they could do my project the way that I wanted. I have not gotten a response from them. They seem to be giant, unresponsive, inflexibel bureaucracy. It's worse than dealing with the government.

This is a follow upon my latter complaint which ended up in stalemate. I just have to respond to
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
's response about my complaint. The problem was the driveway began sinking after four months.
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
did not fix the problem.
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
called me and said for him to fix the problem I have to sign a contract. The contact states that
Cleveland Asphalt Driveway Contractors Provider Name Locked
will seal coat the driveway every year for five year for $225. Why would I have to go into a contract with a company who did a lousy job?
