As a locksmith, what are some of the services you provide?

Griffith: "We do anything that has do with a lock, a door or a safe for business, commercial and residential. We also do remotes and transponder keys for cars."

Puthoff: "We provide locksmith services, we sell and service safes, we do access-control and surveillance systems, and we do hollow-metal doors and door frames."

McGurrin: "We provide general locksmithing, safe sales and service, panic hardware, automobile lock services, and alarm and CCTV sales and service."

How do you charge?

Griffith: "I charge by the job."

Puthoff: "We have an hourly charge, but in some areas we charge per item. We'll always give the customer an estimate."

McGurrin: "We charge a trip charge and our labor rate is based on an hourly rate plus parts."

What's the average fee for customers locked out of their house, their car or their safe?

Griffith: "I can't quote prices because there are too many variables like time of day, the type of lock and the job's location."

Puthoff: "A house or car lockout would be in the $75 to $100 range. A safe takes some different expertise, but it generally starts at about $300."

McGurrin: "It's in the $60 range for car and home lockouts. For safes, we tend give quotes based on the type of safe and the problem."

Before you start a job, do you require some type of identification?

Griffith: "Usually, but it depends on the situation."

Puthoff: "In terms of a lockout, yes, we require ID and the cus-tomer sign an authorization."

McGurrin: "If it's a lockout situation, yes, we do."

What happens if the customer's ID is locked up and they can't get to it?

Griffith: "If they can't get to it, I'll get it after I open the lock."

Puthoff: "We do whatever we can to verify their authenticity."

McGurrin: "If they're locked out and their ID is in there, then we have to use our judgment."

What makes you stand out from your competition?

Griffith: "We're a family-run business and we always answer our phones ourselves."

Puthoff: "Professionalism and integrity. We try to be the most trusted security provider and we stand behind our work."

McGurrin: "Our service, our longevity and our ability to serve quickly."

Do you have any advice for people who lock themselves out of their cars or homes all the time?

Griffith: "Hide a key somewhere or leave a key with a neighbor."

Puthoff: "Find someone you trust, like a nearby neighbor or a family member, to give an extra key."

McGurrin: "Make sure you have a local, bricks-and-mortar business that can help."
