After he assembled the Ikea bookcase, I noticed gaps between the top horizontal board and the divider pieces.  He didn't have an explanation for that, and I didn't press it;  I was already a bit uneasy with what I perceived as his ability to do the work requested.   After he left, and I was cleaning up in the basement, I noticed some of the bookcase elements unused (there were some 16 short dowel rods left over - these are used for connecting one piece to another).   Then I decided to look over the instructions, and saw right from the picture on the front that he had assembled it incorrectly.  This 6' x 6' bookcase needed to be unassembled and put back together properly.  So, I called him the next day, and told him what happened.  He was puzzled how that could be but was willing to come by later that day and re-do it.  I did not want him to assemble it again, cause I honestly did not have any confidence in his ability to do so.  I told him to come by and help me get it down on the floor, and make sure I could take it apart by myself, and I would assemble it;  he just needed to come back the next day and afix it to the wall and level it.  So, I assembled the bookcase.  He came back and put it up.  Then he offerered to give me 1/2 hour of his time for some work without charge.  I will not be taking advantage of that.  "

Since I had to go back to work he came out in the evenings when he could and it took until

to complete. In the process he broke the arm on on one of my storm windows which had to be replaced and he tried to charge me for this. He left handprints all over the windows and actually left quite a bit of paint splatter on the windows. When he was wrapping up the job I asked him if he was going to clean the paint and glaze off of the glass and he threw a fit like a little child actually throwing a ladder into the truck. I stood my ground and he begrudging cleaned off some of the paint and glaze. I actually had to end up paying another company to clean the windows. He did not put down any type of drop cloth or do any clean up whatsoever. Every time he finished I had to go out and clean up the scrapings and glaze he had removed to my dogs would not eat. He was on the phone almost half of the time he was here and some of the calls were to deal with other unhappy customers -- all according to him were a "problem". I called the company and filed a complaint but never head a word from anyone at the company. I would NEVER use this company again for any type of work."

"I called at 9:00 last night to ask if he could install a curtain rod sometime today to cover the opening where my closet doors kept falling out (which they had just done once too often). He came over this morning and said that he could install the curtain rod today but he also advised me that I had other alternatives that would ...more cost me less. He said I could replace the doors, if necessary, for less than the cost of curtains and a rod. He also said that he was reasonably sure he could fix the problem using the current doors, also for less money. He explained all the options clearly including what each would entail. I decided to have him use the current doors. He advised me that he would be able to return in about an hour to do the work. He called me before he came back (in about an hour) and he arrived shortly thereafter. He added material to the top and bottom of the closet opening, installed new tracks for the doors, adjusted the bottom part where the doors anchor into the floor and verified that they worked properly before he left. He measured everything (more than once, which warmed my heart) and cleaned up before he left. The man is a jewel. I started compiling a "wish list" of future jobs before he even left my house. You can bet I'll be calling for his services again, and again, and again!"
