" Pump with Beams and wall liner. His solution is to cover the mold, wet walls with a plastic that is approved for health. There was no suggestion to stop future" water from entering home or prevent walls from getting wet. The wetness would just remain under the plastic sheet covering the walls. He also wanted to put 50% more braces than the other bids. The contract says that surface water and downspouts are not covered or maintenance of owner. I was also worried about warranty. The
connection was good, but their size and the idea of them being near Cincinnati in the future was a concern. I'm looking at maybe 20-30 years and I do not want to do this again. I want long term and dependability. At BBB, he had rating of A+, but the 2nd co mentioned below also had A+. They all had a+. In my notes, I have 7 years and another note says 2011. I think that
told me about 20 employees in Cincy. I have a flat yard with a neighbor's house less than 10 ft away on both sides. I cannot do much with drainage. My issue is more with water table. My basement is 8 feet under almost all around house. history When I bought my home, I had 2 beams put on. Then about 8 years later, I needed another wall fixed and the first co was out of business. Well, the 2nd co added a drain on 2 walls. Their warranty is worth nothing. No wall coverage, just floor in warranty and they have a crevice so all water goes into crevice(hole where floor and wall meet). My wall had more cracks where their work was located. There was no warranty on the beams for those walls where drain was previously done. Just more $. I got 5 estimates and told folks- I wanted it fixed and warranted, no money mentioned. All 5 said that I needed a sump pump with beams. My sump pump water must go to street
(code). My present pipes are ceramic. Guarantee ceramic pipes work? extra? My house is being worked on now. Waited 2 months.

"I had leaking and bowing block foundation walls in an investment property I recently purchased. Three waterproofing companies gave me estimates, Vulcan included."
came out to write the estimate, and I found him to be straightforward and honest. He was willing to work with me to address the problems in a conservative manner, and with an eye toward keeping my project on budget. In the end we came up with a flexible approach that will address problems in an incremental manner so as to make sure that no unneeded work is done. His crew was efficient and did a fine job. I have no problem recommending Vulcan. Note that they operate in a pretty old-school manner (his quote was jotted down on the back of a brochure, and his invoice was prepared using a manual typewriter and carbon paper!) so don't expect high-tech, just honest work at a fair price.

Angie's Answers

?
Mold in a basement is a common problem. My company helps people with this every day. Some of the answers you received were helpful but not all the information is correct. First, you need to eliminate the two main ingrediants that mold needs to survive. The first one is water intrusion. This is a must. I am assuming you have no water intrusion as you make no mention. The second componant that needs to be eliminated is moisture. Moisture is also humidity. Basements need to be kept airtight in the summer months. Some folks have posted that you need air flow in your basement. Nothing could be furthur from the truth. When you open any windows for example, not one micron of air goes out of the basement, Warm humid air is sucked into the basement. Houses suck air into the basement and it meets the cool surfaces and skyrockets humidity. The windows must be kept closed and a dehumidification device installed to ensure humidity stays below 60% humidity. The dehumidifier should be energy star rated and purchasing a seperate humidity guage is a must to monitor the unit's progress. We like to keep our customer's basements at 50% humidity. This eliminates the smell that is active mold spore growth. Once the water and humidity is brought under control. Remove the organic materials that have mold on them. Walls, sheetrock and studs that have been affected. Follow the advice of previous posts as you must ensure that you do not affect the rest of the home. Once removed, install new walls using as much inorganic material as possible. We also install vapor barrier over the walls and seal the floors to stopwater vapor transmission into the basement. Poly plastic is not a acceptable vapor barrier. It is not "zero-perm" and will still allow moisture transmission. It will also crack and break into pieces over the years. A PVC liner rated "zero-perm" is the correct product in this application. Depending how large the basement is and if it is sectioned off will determine the dehumidifier strength. We use the Santa Fe line of dehidifiers as they are super energy efficiant and work like a dehumidifier on steriods. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in Basement Health!
?

Where is the home located, what is the exterior wall construction and type, how is the space heated?

It could be a whole host of different scenarios that would generate that result.  It is nearly impossible to tell but I would say that most basement moisture problems are a result of bulk moisture intrusion or condensation issues.

Given the deep and hard winter this year, it could be a condensation issue that hadn't previously been shown.

The guys that were on the team were excellent. They showed up at the time they said they would be at the house and began work right away. The foreman explained what they were going to do each day and even showed me where alot of the water was entering my house. Although throughout the process my basement looked extremely messy, they cleaned up everything in the end and I was able to continue finishing the basement without having to clean up after them. They were even generous enough to remove an old stationary tub and install a new lighter version. I did have to call them back to have them take away the old tub because their truck was full on the Friday when they finished, but by the following Tuesday, a second crew came out and removed the tub. The one side of the basement had ceramic tile and the guys were very carefull to only take out the first two rows of 12" tiles. They were very careful not to break the other adjacent tiles which allowed me to only have to replace the tiles they removed instead of fixing additional broken tiles. BH Cincinnnati, OH

I intentionally waited 90 days to put up this review so as to make it as fair as possible to them.
After years of basement floods and near-floods, I called
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, having found them in the Angie's List monthly periodical. Their very eager salesman showed up and made a quotation on the spot for a French drain and new drain and sump system for the garage, which gets a lot of water due to terrain layout that can't be altered.
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
's crew showed up less than a week later and worked very hard for several long days straight in the heat, digging, by hand, a long French drain to go around the driveway to catch some of the water that comes in from the back yard during a huge storm. They dug up the perimeter of the garage and put in a new drain system in there, along with a
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
pump. They also put up this tacky plastic sheeting on the garage walls, which is one thing I -don't- like about the job they did. My structural engineer didn't like it, either. But, the garage is dry, so far.
I also purchased new gutters from a roof and gutter contractor to go along with this.
There have been a couple of minor issues. First of all, don't let them put the pump directly on the bottom of the sump. If you get a sump pump from them or anyone else, always get them to put a pump stand under the sump pump so it won't suck the dirt and rocks up. They should have thought to do this after I warned them of the yard erosion, and they said it wouldn't happen anymore, but it did. I have had to clean grunge out of the new sump just like the old one, because of the yard erosion yet to be solved. There was also a sort of kerfuffle about the sump outlet on the side of the house, and one of his techs not listening to him or me about how it was to be set up. He fixed it a few weeks after installation.
All that said, this
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
summer, I have yet to see water coming into the corners of the basement or the garage floor getting wet,
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
a trickle around the door. So far, so good. It's not perfect but it's much improved, and I would call it "mitigated." The price was what I would call "fair" meaning equitable. They did bust their backs for three hot, solid, 12-hour days, and that is worth something.
The professionalism needs some work. Two guys asked to use my bathroom, and at least one of them smoked. I noticed out the window, one guy taking a whiz in the bushes out back. *SMH* If you use these guys, also be prepared for some communication issues, which I had with some of their guys, not relaying accurately what I said and asked about a few things, including when to authorize the second payment, and how to orient the outlet outside.
The quality would have gotten an "A" had they used a pump stand, and not used the tacky plastic wall coverings. But, hey, so far, dry basement all around, which is what counts. It was not a perfect encounter with a contractor, but the end result is what matters, and it's much better off than it was.
The price could have been better, but I was not in a mood to haggle. The communication could have been better, and I can't mitigate their lack of listening or blowing off the three minor details I complained about, so just watch out for this.
They also provided a written warranty, for whatever that is worth. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars, or "good" rating.

I had a couple of spots where water was leaking into my basement during a torrential downpour. I had never noticed this happening before, but figured I'd better have it checked out before it got any worse. I called
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
& Sons and left a voicemail, and received a callback within in an hour. We scheduled an estimate for 2 days later, on a Saturday - which works great for me. He came out and looked at everything, and determined that our problem was very minute and easily fixable - by adding some new caulk around some wires, and cleaning out the window wells. He told us it was something we could do ourselves, and when I inquired about what type of caulk to buy, he said he had some in his car and went ahead and did it for me. He said if we continue to have issues, just give him another call and he will come back out. When I asked him what we owed him, he said just $20 to cover his gas. I gave him $30 for being honest, quick, helpful, and friendly. I would definitely call them again for any other issues I might have.

I was surprised that they completed the work on a day when it was raining. There were three workers. They started at 9 AM and finished at 7 PM. It took a lot longer than expected due to the rain.
We were not told during our initial consultation with owner
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
that we would be losing a tree. While we understand that it was necessary to remove the tree in order for them to access the crack in the basement, it would have been good to have a heads up. I was also upset that rather than letting me transplant our day lilies, they simply threw them out.
Other than the minor landscaping surprises, everything went well. So far we are happy with the work and we are anxiously waiting for our grass to grow back in. If we have any other basement issues, which we will hopefully not, we are definitely calling
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
again.

I cannot speak highly enough of
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and the work they did at our home - they did not just do an excellent job, but they have truly changed our lives. We have had a persistent and significant water problem with our house since we moved in 7 years ago resulting in not only a large amount of damage, but anxiety and frustration with every rain as well. After speaking with several different companies,
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
came in and delivered a truly customized solution for our specific issues. We worked with
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
initially and appreciated his thoughtful and thorough approach to finding the right solution for us, and unlike some competitors,
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
didn't engage in high pressure sales tactics.
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was the foreman for our job and he was excellent - as was the entire crew. They were respectful, thorough, timely and always cleaned up well after they finished working. The
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
crew was the hardest working crew I think I've ever experienced - they worked in the snow, rain, sleet, beginning their days first thing in the morning, and working well into the evening in order to meet their deadlines. Any things that came up throughout the duration of the project,
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was quick to address and communicate, and always went the extra mile for customer service. Most importantly - we haven't seen a DROP of water in any area of our home and they've provided us with peace of mind!

I was dreading this project due to anticipated noise, dirt and disruption.

Crew showed up on time and the foreman (
Cincinnati Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
) walked me through what would be done and answered my questions. It took
2 full days but when they left, the premises were clean (except for dust which I fully expected).

Project went much better than I expected, the foreman and crew worked hard to complete the work with minimal disruption. I would
definitely use them again.
