"Everything went great. I contacted the company via my AngiesList account. I received a call to schedule an estimate within a day or so and was told right off that" they were currently scheduling into November/December. We went ahead and scheduled the estimate. We received a quote within a week, signed the contract and made our down payment. We had prior separate bids on the gutters and drains so we knew the amount was competitive. They communicated equally well with my husband and myself at all times. We let them know we could be flexible about scheduling as my husband works from home and they managed to fit us in much earlier than we'd hoped. The start date was pushed back one day but we were told early that day which was appreciated. Work took two days to complete. and his crew were considerate and conscientious. A few worked late the first day to ensure the project wouldn't run over. There was an issue finding the main line to attach the yard drains. They were patient when we asked for time to hear from both the village and county before giving up and doing a cut (the only one on our street). The gutter work went smoothly and quickly and functions perfectly. The yard was largely returned to it's prior condition and seed and straw was laid in the areas that had been dug to the drain lines. I would absolutely use them again and recommend them to others.

"We moved into our new home in August, 1983. Everything was fine until we had our first rain. we then discovered dampness in the lower level. I called the county" engineer and he advised I install a curtain drain at the back side of house. $2,000 dollars later and we still had a damp lower lever. then we tried sealant, no luck. We pilled up dirt around the perimeter of the house, no luck. We saw an ad for , called them, and they said we had a hydro-static pressure problem. Well, I didn't know what the estimator was talking about but I was desperate. They quoted, finished the project and for the last 33 years we've been dry. ROCKS as the young people say.

Mold in a basement is a common problem. My company helps people with this every day. Some of the answers you received were helpful but not all the information is correct. First, you need to eliminate the two main ingrediants that mold needs to survive. The first one is water intrusion. This is a must. I am assuming you have no water intrusion as you make no mention. The second componant that needs to be eliminated is moisture. Moisture is also humidity. Basements need to be kept airtight in the summer months. Some folks have posted that you need air flow in your basement. Nothing could be furthur from the truth. When you open any windows for example, not one micron of air goes out of the basement, Warm humid air is sucked into the basement. Houses suck air into the basement and it meets the cool surfaces and skyrockets humidity. The windows must be kept closed and a dehumidification device installed to ensure humidity stays below 60% humidity. The dehumidifier should be energy star rated and purchasing a seperate humidity guage is a must to monitor the unit's progress. We like to keep our customer's basements at 50% humidity. This eliminates the smell that is active mold spore growth. Once the water and humidity is brought under control. Remove the organic materials that have mold on them. Walls, sheetrock and studs that have been affected. Follow the advice of previous posts as you must ensure that you do not affect the rest of the home. Once removed, install new walls using as much inorganic material as possible. We also install vapor barrier over the walls and seal the floors to stopwater vapor transmission into the basement. Poly plastic is not a acceptable vapor barrier. It is not "zero-perm" and will still allow moisture transmission. It will also crack and break into pieces over the years. A PVC liner rated "zero-perm" is the correct product in this application. Depending how large the basement is and if it is sectioned off will determine the dehumidifier strength. We use the Santa Fe line of dehidifiers as they are super energy efficiant and work like a dehumidifier on steriods. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in Basement Health!
?

Where is the home located, what is the exterior wall construction and type, how is the space heated?

It could be a whole host of different scenarios that would generate that result.  It is nearly impossible to tell but I would say that most basement moisture problems are a result of bulk moisture intrusion or condensation issues.

Given the deep and hard winter this year, it could be a condensation issue that hadn't previously been shown.

After having our new concrete driveway poured, we developed a flooding problem in our garage during heavy rains. We contacted and one other company for estimates to this problem . We received a prompt response from - the other company didn't show up. came out and outlined two ...More solutions that I am confident would have solved this issue. However, our driveway contractors decided to try to fix the problem instead of compensating us so that we could hire . Should that fix not work, then I would not hesitate to hire .

My basement has flooded 3 times in 6 years -- twice this year -- because water backed up from the walk-out basement's patio drain and ran through the sliding glass doors onto the floor and carpet. I've had big messes to clean up, including replacing carpet, because the patio drain just couldn't stand up to the torrential rainstorms we've ...More been having this summer. After the second time my basement flooded this year, I contacted to see what I could do to end the flooding. I had my house on the and didn't want the new owners to experience what I had.
came out and developed a great design that used a French drain to keep water and mulch from running over the edges of the patio walls, replaced the inadequate patio drain with a wide slotted one that went the length of the patio, and enclosed a gutter downspout that had been dumping lots of water on the patio and tied it to an underground drainage line. I had a tight budget, so worked with me to come up with a plan that would solve the flooding problem and meet my financial limit.
Originally, was so busy that they weren't going to be able to do the work until September 25. However, they called me last week and said they had some time come open and could come out this week if I wanted. Since I've sold my house and am closing at the end of the month, I wanted to have all the patio drainage work done before the closing. came out on Wednesday, did all the work in one day, and cleaned up and reseeded the grass where they had dug it up. They even used some of the extra dirt to re-grade a section of the yard by the patio that had lost some dirt through the heavy rain.
It's pouring cats and dogs tonight. There's a flash flood warning, but my basement is totally dry! Not even a bit of water near the sliding glass doors! It's such a relief!

, , and their entire staff have been a pleasure to work with. Once the weather cooperated and work started, it didn't stop. What I thought was going to take a week, took three days. The work encompassed the entire back and side yards. The crew was polite, punctual, and patient with my two big, goofy ...More dogs. The office staff was helpful and patient as the project kept getting pushed back due to the amount of rain we received this summer. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who wants work that is done in a timely fashion and done right the first time.

Pump with Beams and wall liner. His solution is to cover the mold, wet walls with a plastic that is approved for health. There was no suggestion to stop future water from entering home or prevent walls from getting wet. The wetness would just remain under the plastic sheet covering the walls. He also wanted to put 50% more braces than the other bids. ...More The contract says that surface water and downspouts are not covered or maintenance of owner.

I was also worried about warranty. The connection was good, but their size and the idea of them being near Cincinnati in the future was a concern. I'm looking at maybe 20-30 years and I do not want to do this again. I want long term and dependability. At BBB, he had rating of A+, but the 2nd co mentioned below also had A+. They all had a+. In my notes, I have 7 years and another note says 2011. I think that told me about 20 employees in Cincy. I have a flat yard with a neighbor's house less than 10 ft away on both sides. I cannot do much with drainage. My issue is more with water table. My basement is 8 feet under almost all around house. history

When I bought my home, I had 2 beams put on. Then about 8 years later, I needed another wall fixed and the first co was out of business. Well, the 2nd co added a drain on 2 walls. Their warranty is worth nothing. No wall coverage, just floor in warranty and they have a crevice so all water goes into crevice(hole where floor and wall meet). My wall had more cracks where their work was located. There was no warranty on the beams for those walls where drain was previously done. Just more $.

I got 5 estimates and told folks- I wanted it fixed and warranted, no money mentioned. All 5 said that I needed a sump pump with beams. My sump pump water must go to street (code). My present pipes are ceramic. Guarantee ceramic pipes work? extra? My house is being worked on now. Waited 2 months.

I had leaking and bowing block foundation walls in an investment property I recently purchased. Three waterproofing companies gave me estimates, Vulcan included. came out to write the estimate, and I found him to be straightforward and honest. He was willing to work with me to address the problems in a conservative manner, and ...More with an eye toward keeping my project on budget. In the end we came up with a flexible approach that will address problems in an incremental manner so as to make sure that no unneeded work is done. His crew was efficient and did a fine job. I have no problem recommending Vulcan. Note that they operate in a pretty old-school manner (his quote was jotted down on the back of a brochure, and his invoice was prepared using a manual typewriter and carbon paper!) so don't expect high-tech, just honest work at a fair price.

The guys that were on the team were excellent. They showed up at the time they said they would be at the house and began work right away. The foreman explained what they were going to do each day and even showed me where alot of the water was entering my house. Although throughout the process my basement looked extremely messy, they cleaned up everything ...More in the end and I was able to continue finishing the basement without having to clean up after them. They were even generous enough to remove an old stationary tub and install a new lighter version. I did have to call them back to have them take away the old tub because their truck was full on the Friday when they finished, but by the following Tuesday, a second crew came out and removed the tub. The one side of the basement had ceramic tile and the guys were very carefull to only take out the first two rows of 12" tiles. They were very careful not to break the other adjacent tiles which allowed me to only have to replace the tiles they removed instead of fixing additional broken tiles. BH Cincinnnati, OH

I intentionally waited 90 days to put up this review so as to make it as fair as possible to them.
After years of basement floods and near-floods, I called , having found them in the Angie's List monthly periodical. Their very eager salesman showed up and made a quotation on the spot for a French drain and new drain ...More and sump system for the garage, which gets a lot of water due to terrain layout that can't be altered.
's crew showed up less than a week later and worked very hard for several long days straight in the heat, digging, by hand, a long French drain to go around the driveway to catch some of the water that comes in from the back yard during a huge storm. They dug up the perimeter of the garage and put in a new drain system in there, along with a pump. They also put up this tacky plastic sheeting on the garage walls, which is one thing I -don't- like about the job they did. My structural engineer didn't like it, either. But, the garage is dry, so far.
I also purchased new gutters from a roof and gutter contractor to go along with this.
There have been a couple of minor issues. First of all, don't let them put the pump directly on the bottom of the sump. If you get a sump pump from them or anyone else, always get them to put a pump stand under the sump pump so it won't suck the dirt and rocks up. They should have thought to do this after I warned them of the yard erosion, and they said it wouldn't happen anymore, but it did. I have had to clean grunge out of the new sump just like the old one, because of the yard erosion yet to be solved. There was also a sort of kerfuffle about the sump outlet on the side of the house, and one of his techs not listening to him or me about how it was to be set up. He fixed it a few weeks after installation.
All that said, this summer, I have yet to see water coming into the corners of the basement or the garage floor getting wet, a trickle around the door. So far, so good. It's not perfect but it's much improved, and I would call it "mitigated." The price was what I would call "fair" meaning equitable. They did bust their backs for three hot, solid, 12-hour days, and that is worth something.
The professionalism needs some work. Two guys asked to use my bathroom, and at least one of them smoked. I noticed out the window, one guy taking a whiz in the bushes out back. *SMH* If you use these guys, also be prepared for some communication issues, which I had with some of their guys, not relaying accurately what I said and asked about a few things, including when to authorize the second payment, and how to orient the outlet outside.
The quality would have gotten an "A" had they used a pump stand, and not used the tacky plastic wall coverings. But, hey, so far, dry basement all around, which is what counts. It was not a perfect encounter with a contractor, but the end result is what matters, and it's much better off than it was.
The price could have been better, but I was not in a mood to haggle. The communication could have been better, and I can't mitigate their lack of listening or blowing off the three minor details I complained about, so just watch out for this.
They also provided a written warranty, for whatever that is worth. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars, or "good" rating.
