"While it was a bit pricey, this had never been done to this 30 year old home. The owner spent time with me on the phone explaining what they will do. They were on" time and spent about 5 hours continuously working. The two technicians explained everything they were doing and showed me the abundance of dust and debris that had been accumulating for some time. They were very professional and cleaned up after themselves, so you never knew they were there. I highly recommend them for their professionalism and the thorough job they did.

-Marsha M.

"Unfortunately I do not remember the technician's name, but he was very professional and did an excellent job. He was also courteous, prompt, and friendly. I" have an older home, so the ducts lack access ports for cleaning like the air ducts in newer homes. The technician cut access ports to perform a thorough cleaning job as necessary, then resealed the holes with a plug. He also showed me all the gunk he pulled from the ducts. I was completely satisfied with the service, would recommend fully, and would use again in the future.

Air Duct Cleaning & Air Quality

The air you breathe indoors can become more polluted than outdoor air because it's trapped inside, allowing contaminants to accumulate. Many HVAC companies offer air duct cleaning services, but there's no scientific proof that air duct cleaning improves air quality.

Ask potential air duct cleaning companies to provide you with a written checklist of exactly what they will do, and if you hire them, ask them to verify each task as they complete it. (Photo by Jennica Abrams)

Is Air Duct Cleaning Worth it?

Although there's no scientific evidence proving that air duct cleaning improves air quality, experts agree that there is value in the service.

"While it’s entirely possible that you do have mold in your air ducts, such claims are also a common scare tactic used by some less-than-scrupulous air duct cleaning companies," Angie Hicks says.
Mold Testing & Remediation, Air Duct Cleaning

Do you have mold in your air ducts? Learn how to identify mold and remediate it, along with what you should expect to pay. Angie Hicks provides the answers.

Angie's Answers

Yes Jupiter. It depends on the severity of the situation, is the mold encapsulated in the insulation. If yes, than replace [insulation] it with new. Is it on the casing of the heater? If yes, clean it with a mold neutralizing metal cleaner. It's not a matter of finding something or someone to clean or address the existing mold. It's a matter of finding a contractor to rectify what is causing the mold grow. It's coming from excessive moisture in the air-handler unit. I can say with 100% surety you’re dealing with poor airflow and/or incorrect equipment sizing! Either issue will cause excessive icing of the evaporator coil, which leads to excessive condensate water in the system. The condensate will eventually overflow the drain pan leaving stagnant water in the air-handler housing, which leads to mold growth. I would not let any contractor do any kind of temporary repair, add any device like a UV light or air-cleaning product until the aforementioned is corrected. I talk a lot about this in my videos and on my website. It is the result of improper system design from unqualified contractors. There is a reason why some guys cost more than others, and this is one reason why!

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

There are varying opinions on the type of cleaning to have done on your air ducts.  My opinion is that it varies based on the type of duct work you have.  If you have solid material (typically metal) ducting you can have use a company that uses a brush to scrape the system clean.  If you have flexible plastic or foil ducts the solvent cleaners are generally a safer bet since the brushes often tear holes in the soft material and/or pull joints loose.  It really depends on what type on ducting you have.  You're ducts will collect all kinds of dirt, skin cells and allergens over time so if you see dicoloration around your vents it is probably time to get them checked and cleaned.

Also, don't stop at the duct work.  Don't forget your annual system check up by a licensed HVAC technician.  They'll make sure your system is running at peak performance, keeping it running efficiently and with as little impact as possible on your electric bill.  You can often save the cost of the annual tune up in the electricity cost saved.  If you have a natural gas system a bi-annual check and cleaning of the HVAC unit may be advisable to save electricity and gas.

if you have exhausted all of your choices I would call and put a complain in with the BBB then go to the DA and put a complain with them.  Then get a good lawyer and sue them for all you can get.

the answers in this on this page are all correct but you are using a bandaide to to cure the infection have a trust hvac tech open your system to see where the dust is coming from you more than likely have an impacted coil that need to acid wash to bring it back to oringinal anything left from the fire is still inbeded in that coil. just remember after that job to keep your filters clean change once a month in the summer and every two months in the winter.

Air Duct Cleaning reviews in Cincinnati

I didnt use the deal because I ended up going with another company. I felt the other company was more knowledgeable and very helpful.

Terrible. Had to return numerous times to get the furnace, heat pump regulators working properly. 1st heat pump defective. Kept sending a different crew member over to correct. Couldn't get the ducts balanced. The damper kept whistling. Had to return multiple times for that. absolutely do nOT recommend! Office didn't keep records of who was here last.

They arrived on time. It was a rainy day with a 2 man team. The leader of the team didn’t bother to cover his shoes with any kind of protective material. I normally
Cincinnati Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
’t care, but I had just had my tiles cleaned. I immediately went to get a rag to clean it up. The second gentleman realized I was upset & went to get covers for himself. When he came back from the truck after he got the covers for his shoes, he bent down to help me clean up the mess. The leader did not put them on at all throughout the course of the work. I misunderstood the deal & what needed to be cleaned. When he added up the ducts, the extra amount I was paying was substantial. I asked if I could purchase another deal & he would not let me. When he did the main work at the furnace, something he did knocked out part of the power in my house. I did not notice because I didn’t go in that area of the home a lot. The gentleman never said anything. I realized the next day that there was an issue when my assistant went to vacuum & it didn’t work. My husband fixed this, but I would have liked the worker to tell me this when he did it. When they did the cleaning, they generated debris that didn’t get vacuumed up. My carpets were clean before they came & my assistant had to vacuum after they left everywhere. I also had to reach out to them to schedule. Based on this experience, I would not have this company back again.

They were very nice and professional. When I called to schedule the appointment, the woman let me know that she had this done to her own home and she said it was great; explained the service stating that the vents would be sealed and the furnace would be cleaned out. She also advised to make sure they get all of the vents back open, one of hers was still closed and she had to get them to come back to unseal it. When they came out, I asked them about it and they mentioned they only perform that service for commercial buildings, like hospitals. I thought that this would have been the most effective way to have this done. I felt the suction of the vacuum and I did not feel that it was not that strong. They explained that is gets stronger as it attaches to something.

The technicians were very friendly and professional. The procedures just fell short of my expectations.

I arranged service with a coupon from Valpak for "$49.95 Unlimited Vent Cleaning 2 Returns & 1 Main Truck Line to Furnace". I thought maybe it was too good to be true, and it turned out to be just that. The technician and his helper hooked up their equipment and got ready to clean, then the head tech told his helper to stop! He found soot in the duct work. (Not surprising, as the house is 90 years old) This would require additional services, and he wrote an estimate for $2039.84 which included treatments with chemicals and sealers to deal with the soot problem.
He told me that they would not just clean the system without providing the extra service of sealing the ducts and the bare minimum price for service was $419.92. I told them that the price for their service was way out of line, and the technician said he was unable to adjust the set price. I told them I was not interested in the service at this price. They began to pack up their equipment, and the serviceman called his boss who offered to discount the services ($346.93). I declined the reduced offer. The person on the phone suggested that if I was willing to hand out some of their business cards or write a letter recommending their services they could discount the price further ($299.89). I said that I did not feel comfortable recommending a business that operates in a bait-and-switch manner and that I would not recommend them and they packed up and left. I felt very disappointed to have to have been treated this way.
Get them off Angie's list. This is not a company anyone should recommend to anyone!

- Matt Z.

I will start by stating that everything ended up okay, but there were some bumps along the way. I think my situation was just one of those that became more complicated than it was supposed to be. I started out buying 2 coupons on Angie's List- one for a dryer vent cleaning and another for a duct cleaning, but we ended up doing much more (adding on mold clean up in the heat pump unit and the installation of 2 UV light units to prevent mold re-growth). I was not impressed by the first guy they sent out to clean the heat pump indoor unit (after all, he mentioned that he started with the company as a carpet cleaner), so I question their expertise in each area. I had some concerns when mold was found, and I started working directly with
Cincinnati Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
(the HVAC dept. manager of the company), and he was wonderful! There were some hiccups along the way (a plug was broken in the unit, and another HVAC contractor had to come out and fix it,
Cincinnati Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
paid for it, but it was a bit inconvenient...the needed part had to be ordered, it took a week to come in, our A/C was off for a little bit). Even though their prices for the aforementioned services were lowered than others I contacted, I think the next time, I'd probably hire HVAC licensed people to work on the unit. However, I will mention again that once I started working directly with
Cincinnati Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
(the dept. manager), I was impressed by his professionalism and hard work to resolve any and all issues!

Initially when I called
Cincinnati Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
, it was because of a coupon that was listed in the Reach Magazine that advertised cleaning unlimited vents, 1 main
Cincinnati Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
line for a low price, and a free dryer vent with a full system cleaning. The reason that there is a "B" for professionalism, is because when I initially called to make the appointment, the receptionist over the phone refused to answer any questions about the work that was going to be done in my house. She told me that I had to speak with the technician and he would answer every question prior to starting the work. She gave this answer for every question that I asked her. This was concerning to me because it was already a very low price and I didn't want to be "taken for a fool" so to speak. When the technician arrived, he was immediately ready to work, but I had questions. Initially, we were both very defensive, I would say, because after reading all of the reviews on Angie's list, I realized that this may have been one of the companies that was out to get me by upselling and such. My technician,
Cincinnati Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
, on the other hand was just trying to do his job and may have felt attacked by my initial "I need you to tell me exactly what you are going to do because I won't pay a penny more than the coupon price without agreeing to it first!" approach. But keep in mind, I was apprehensive due to the conduct of the receptionist during my initial phone call, and the reviews I had read.
Cincinnati Air Duct Cleaners Provider Name Locked
explained to me what he would do for the coupon price and I asked a copious amount of questions about what he would and would not do, and informing him that his company does not have a good rating on Angie's List and that I was apprehensive to get the work done, I allowed him to begin working. He told me that after he was finished, I'd give him a good review and he was absolutely right! Initially I watched his every move, I wanted to be sure that my freshly cleaned carpet wasn't soiled by the duct cleaning, I wanted to be sure that he was careful with my furniture, and the like. After some time passed, I began to feel at ease because he treated my items with care and it was clear that he was determined to do a good job of cleaning my vents. I took before and after pictures to make sure that I could see the difference in the cleaning and it is a very clear difference.
I knew that I would have to pay an additional charge to get the remainder of the vents cleaned, so I checked online to check for a comparable price to assure that I didn't overpay for those services. Once he did everything the coupon covered, we discussed the optional treatments and the cost to finish cleaning the remainder of the vents. The price was comparable, but of course I worked the price down just a bit more because I wanted to be sure that I received the best possible deal. I did turn down the $700 UV light as well as some other optional service that a mold specialist (and some online blogs) told me that I didn't need, but he was not pushy in trying to get me to purchase things that I didn't want. Ultimately, I had my entire system cleaned plus my dryer vent for a very good price. He also did a very good job as he was in my house for 3+ hours before it was all said and done. It is my hope that the vents are the location of the allergens and since they have been cleaned, I will stop being so congested while I'm at home. Even if my allergies don't improve though, my vents are the cleanest they have ever been.
There are a few dust bunnies around the basement that I noticed (the basement has dust bunnies anyway so it is no big deal), but it is nothing compared to what he must have taken away from here. At one point, he was coughing as was I because there was so much dust in my vents. I can't believe I was breathing all of that in for all of these years However, I now have cleaner air, my AC system still works, and I can see the difference. Unless something else happens in the near future, I appreciate the experience and I have actually already recommended the company and service technician to a friend of mine. Good job
