Upholstering Reviews in Chicago

The gentleman in charge showed me many books of fabric and I picked one out and set up a time for him to get the chair to be reupholstered. But when the date came later that week, he had forgotten all about it as well as what fabric I had chosen. He showed up an hour and a half late. I have tried many times to reach him on the phone to find out if he figured out what I wanted to use for fabric but the voicemail isn't even taking any more calls because it's full. He seems very disorganized. I almost wish I could just start over with somebody else. (I just checked Yelp and found other people have had similar problems. Maybe I should have checked there first.)

I had a very disappointing experience with
and would not recommend anyone use them, unless you have an industrial job or very
home job, such as reupholstering a stool or bench
In 2011
reupholstered my sofa. I am giving them an "F" rating because they ignored the specifications I had clearly set during the rep visits before the job was agreed to, and because they demanded almost $1000 in additional fees the day the sofa was delivered.

The job requirements were detailed to the Rep during visits to my home. I told him what I wanted, gave examples using other furniture in my home (e.g., the highly-domed, soft seat cushions in my
side chairs that I wanted replicated in the sofa). I even gave him a design magazine article with detailed instructions and illustrations on how the cushions should be constructed.
I asked the
rep if he understood the specs completely, and not to not take the job if he did not. My exact words. He said he understood completely, and could deliver everything I asked for. His exact words.
He wanted a down payment. I gave it to him.
My specifications:
(1) very shallow sofa back (i.e., maybe an inch of foam on the wooden back).
I had thrown the original back cushions away years earlier and wanted the back to stay as-is, with maybe just a bit of extra foam to cover wooden slats, and
(2) very deep cushions that were also highly domed to match examples and photos I had given him, and medium-soft to match the cushions of the
seat cushions I had shown him, and asked him to sit on;
I told the
rep that I wanted the cushions to be deep - i.e., snug against the shallow back - because I used the sofa as a guest bed, and because I liked to curl up to read and nap;
(3) 2 throw pillows, and
(3) all else the same as current sofa.
The sofa he delivered - which he demanded an extra near $1000 for when he delivered - was as follows:
(1) standard camel-backed sofa back (maybe 6-8 inches of foam - I later had more than 5 inched of foam removed from the back to get the original shallow back I had ordered);
(2) rock-hard seat cushions, standard length, with no doming;
I had another reupholstered come to estimate cost to fix what
had done, an upholsterer with dozens of "Excellent" "5 Star" ratings on Yahoo and similar "A" Angie's ratings. He told me that the foam
provided is intended for diner bench seats or the "very obese": I sink about one inch when I sit on these cushions.
This upholsterer also informed my that is it not standard to insist upon a down payment, nor to show up with new charges at time of delivery.
(3) no throw pillows at all;
(4) sofa skirt much longer than the original, so long that it dragged and draped on the floor
Long story short, I believed the
rep when he told me repeatedly that he understood exactly what I wanted, and I did not insist that the specs be written into the order. I was also was foolish enough not to read the fine print on the order, which stated that acceptance of sofa on delivery was tantamount to "complete satisfaction with the job".
As mentioned, I had paid a sum down, which he flat refused refused to return without going to court He also refused to leave my living room if I did not pay the original amount due, in addition to the $1000 extra.
Very very long story short, I paid the original amount due for the bad job just to get rid of him.
Again, I would strongly advise against using this company unless (1) you insist upon all specification being written into the contract (which is standard elsewhere, i have since learned), and (2) it is an extremely
job, and (3) you have a good lawyer.
NOTE: I give quality a "D" because specs were ignored. If I had ordered a standard-backed sofa with rock-hard cushions, no throw pillows, and an extra long skirt, the quality of work would get an A: I believe the the guy who did the actual reupholstery would have done a good job if he had followed my specs.

Upholstering reviews in Chicago

We had a few hiccups in getting together for the bid and pick up process, probably on account of this brutal winter what with colds and engine troubles.
However, Gumer's bid came in significantly lower than the 3 other bids, both for labor and material. He seemed so capable and knowledgeable asking me a lot of questions about what I liked about my love seats (comfort levels, etc). Most astonishing to my husband and me tho was that the turnaround on the upholstering turned out to be 4 days. We had been expecting 2-3 weeks!
They were extremely cautious with the pick up and delivery - these are heavy love seats.
If I can figure out a way to attach a photo, I will.

I purchased a YouSwoop coupon to use with
Chicago Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
and of course waited until it was about to expire to use it.
Chicago Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
(the owner) was very gracious about it and said it was fine since I had contacted her before the expiration. I need a chair-and-a-half re-upholstered and she quoted me $500 for the labor (before the coupon was applied). She sent people to pick up the chair and drop off fabric books, and we did all of our work by email and phone, so I never had to go to the studio. Her fabric pricing was higher than I expected, but she gave me guidance and I went to Vogue Fabrics in Evanston and purchased fabric in my price range. She was lovely to deal with, though I did have to contact her to keep the ball rolling on a few occasions. The work was very well done and pick-up and delivery times were honored. I would definitely use

I could not be more pleased. he work done was expert, professional. timely, beautiful, better than expected.
The chairs were ready in half the time predicted. Then the table was taken and again finished in half the time predicted. The deliveries were exactly as

øunced. The communication (by phone) was profssiona. understandable and on target. The deiveries prompt.
II can not think of anything to complain about, and I will use

An all around good experience. We had gotten a number of quotes on re-stuffing our couch.
Chicago Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
was the most reasonable. Unlike most couches where you can re-stuff the cushions, this couch required a complete disassembly and reconstruction.
Chicago Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
appeared when he said he would and assessed the situation for free (others would charge up to $100.00 to come to assess the job).
Chicago Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
took the couch to his workshop, completed the job ahead of schedule, and took pictures of the various stages in the rebuild process that he showed to me upon delivery of the couch. I was very impressed by his attentiveness, professionalism, quality of work and his promptness.

Great. They came and picked up the pieces and returned them. The repairs looked great. The table was an unusual vintage piece (converted from coffee table to dining table) and a crucial piece of some sort of leather or cloth holding two halves together had ripped. We had no idea if it would even be fixable, but
Chicago Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
was unfazed. It turned out great, as did the wooden lounge chair. We had another wooden dining chair repaired by them about 3 years ago with similarly stellar results. (All the other companies I had gotten estimates from at that time were several times higher, and it was very difficult to convince them to come out to check out what I needed repaired.)
I will absolutely use them again. They are a very small, informal operation (a guy and his dad), so don't expect a flashy website (or even email.) But they do a great job quickly.

If you visit the store there are also numerous pieces which were created by

that include hand crafted wooden furniture. This is obviously a place to go when you want someone who is a few notches above the others.
