Chicago Tree Services Reviews

"Was amazing to watch them work taking this monstrous tree down limb limb. The entire thing stump included was gone in one day and backyard was cleaned up.
"We asked them to leave some branches as we would use them for back yard fires. They did not. So this was a customer service fail. And they have not returned emails inquiring why thy did not. The trimming we a bit harsh to an amateur's eye.
"The job was estimated about 5 weeks prior to the job being done. I was told to allow about 5 to 6 weeks due to the number of requests that the company had following some spring and summer storms. I marked that punctuality was N/A due to the fact that the job would be done when a crew was available.
The crew of about 4 or 5 came and trimmed back the tree to the property line as I had requested. They completed the job in about 45 minutes and then cleaned up my garage roof with a blower and removed all of the trimmed branches.
They did not contact me prior to arrival or before starting the job. There was no need to since the tree is in a vacant yard and they could access it without my involvement. I happened to be home when the crew arrived and observed the work.
The bill came about three weeks later and the terms of payment were convenient with credit card or check allowed.
I think they did a good job and I would hire the company again.
"All went well until it was time to pay for the service. I was quoted $300 by the owner Mr.

, however, when the work was completed, his son came to collect the payment it suddenly turned to $350! I don't like shady business dealings and I'm not sure what type of relationship the son has with his father but I did not appreciate that at all. The work was excellent and they cleaned up the branches and debris very well that's why I rated them as excellent. I was going to give them a tip but I did not expect a $50 tip to automatically added. In the future, please make all arrangements with the owner.

was AMAZING! My husband and I were under contract to purchase a home, but a tree in the patio area was starting to look suspicious and we believed was causing a concern to the patio (buckling the pavement) and safety of the home. I had

come out for review and a quote to remove the tree during the inspection period, so that we had an idea of what the cost would be before we actually closed on the home.

's quote was not only fair and the most competitive, but he was by far the most consultative and helpful. I really appreciate that because my husband travels a lot for business and I need workers who will explain the process and advise me on what should be done without taking advantage.

is that person! He knows his business and the business of removing trees!
I indicated to

that we would not close for six-weeks and he honored the price through when we closed. Two weeks after we closed, I reached back out to him so that he could come and remove the tree and grind the stump. He was literally there within ONE day. He was very careful and cleaned up all debris before leaving. Overall SUCH a pleasant experience. I would hire him again and 100x over! You can't go wrong with

"I saw the deal on Angie's list for $300.00 worth of work for $200.00. So I bought the coupon and started to play phone tag with the company. There was a lot of phone tag because I couldn't get the owner to call me back on my cell phone, as I was not at home all the time.
Finally got it scheduled and a crew came out and did a great job and cleaned up too!

was responsive and answered all our questions - my neighbor's and my own, patiently and thoroughly.
He arrived when he said he would.
He performed the work as promised.

was also the first to provide the quote. (I waited two weeks for one company)
He gave a fair price for the work. (The quote was about 40% less then the other two quotes for the same work.
His crew cleaned up.
I don't think I will have a problem with the trees growing back.

"My wife received several quotes from several companies for the work that we needed done, which included removing some existing grass to

gave a nicely detailed quote and although the overall price came in high, we accepted the bid. Here's where we went wrong. One of the lines in the quote was for labor for putting in that patio. They put the quantity as 150, the item as LABOR and the price per that quantity as $12. We (incorrectly) assumed that the quantity would be referring to hours, since there was nothing else that made sense to us (we had asked for a 120 sq ft patio and the price for the stones themselves were just individual, not in square footage). We (incorrectly) assumed that since it would not take 150 hours to make the patio, the quote was just being overly cautious and that it would not cost as much to have the actual install in place. We absolutely take responsibility for not questioning why the charge was so high until after the fact.
Anyway, the crew of 3 came out over 3 days and did about 30 man hours of total work to do all the necessary work. They also laid some new sod down because they had ripped up too much of the grass. Overall the patio looks nice, the tree cutting was adequate, and the new plants were put in where we wanted them. They also put in 150 sq. ft. of patio (15' x 10', instead of 12' x 10', which we had initially requested), although after going back and doing the math on how much stone they purchased, they did charge us for all 150 sq. ft of the various stones used to make the patio.
And apparently that's where the quantity of 150 came from in the labor cost. At no point did they tell us ahead of time specifically that the patio that they would be putting down would be 150 sq. ft. As I said, we should have done better due diligence to question why the labor charge was so high and failed to do so. But charging $1800 for approximately 30 hours of work (technically, there were separate labor charges for the plants being put in and the tree trimming, so really, less than 30 hours of work) is outrageous. When we (belatedly) questioned the total after the work had been done, we said as much, wondering why were being charged for 150 hours of labor when only 30 hours were done. We were told that showing labor cost per square foot of patio install was standard in the landscaping business and that we should have known better. When we pointed out that that labor charge was outrageous--my guess is that the men who did the actual labor see nowhere near that $60/hr--we were told that that was the charge.
So we paid the total, since we had signed the agreement and it was out fault for not questioning it further. Nonetheless, I would not use this company again for using what I feel was a sneaky tactic. Anytime a charge is written, the unit of measurement should be included, as it was for the other items on the price quote.

after being told by city of Chicago that they probably wouldn't get to my tree for several more years.
Tree is on parkway and the city is responsible for servicing it but they are so far behind. Midway came out and gave me a good estimate and told me they would have to get a permit from the city. In less than two weeks they had the permit and came out and trimmed the tree. They did an excellent job and removed all the debris. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to family and friends.
"Some big limbs from a neighbor's tree were hanging over our garage, a limb of our maple tree was brushing against our roof, and some other trees in our yard needed trimming. I purchased a Big Deal from Gray but from previous experience with tree maintenance figured I would have to pay additional for the work I needed. The company responded by email almost immediately after I purchased the deal asking for my phone number to discuss the work. They called the next day and spoke with another household member who wasn't clear on what needed to be done and said we needed the maple tree trimmed. The estimator came out when we weren't here and then gave us an estimate for the maple tree only: $200 in addition to the $200 worth of "Gray's Tree Bucks." I emailed the company back and told them that some other trees needed attention also; they arranged to come out when I was home so I could show them what I wanted done. An estimator did come out, listened and looked carefully and wrote everything down. We ended up with an estimate of: $200 in addition to the coupons. I thought it was a little curious that both estimates--one for just trimming the maple tree (although it would have been a more thorough trimming than what we were requesting, which was just 1 or 2 branches) and one for trimming a number of trees--were the same. I wondered if perhaps an additional $200 was what the company needs to make it worth their while to offer a Big Deal (although I appreciate the discount and think the work was well worth the price). Between the company's schedule and mine--I wanted to be there when they did the work--it took several weeks to get the work scheduled. On the appointed day the crew did not arrive within the specified time window (hence the "B" for punctuality, since nobody called to notify me. I was a little anxious, since it was the last day before we were leaving for three weeks, so I called to verify the appointment.) When the crew showed up, I think there were about 4-5 workers. The foreman asked carefully about what was to be done, made a couple of other suggestions and did the additional work without additional charge. The crew seemed very competent and hard-working, and clean-up was thorough.
