Masonry reviews in Chicago
It may be due to the severe winter, but I was finding small pieces of a crumbling capstone and
When I finally was able to see the condition of the capstone (which had actually shifted too) I saw that it had deteriorated quite badly.
They were quick to respond to my quote request and came out to assess what repairs were needed.
I liked that I was offered two possible options with no hard-sell.
I could have gone with a repair or a rebuild.
But in consideration of the condition of the chimney, I chose to rebuild the chimney and replace the capstone.
Once I made the decision, I was put on their service list, and they came out a few days later.
They called before arriving for the work, and did the work while I was out.
When they left everything was cleaned-up very nicely.
In fact I wasn't even sure that they had shown up until I went up on the rear deck to get a better look at the chimney.
I was very pleased with the work which they had done.
Good communication and explanation of the service options, excellent workmanship, and cleanliness of the site on completion.
I am quite happy and would have no reservations in recommending their services.
Kudos and thanks to the owner
Working with the different parts of this project. Everything was done as well as we could have hoped; things were done quickly (much faster than I had expected, in fact) and his crew did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. We were having a baby around this same time and they were also able to work around our scheduling needs. It was nice to have a single person to work with on this range of services rather than having to hire a bunch of different people for each project and manage them all individually. I highly recommend
When we informed R&C about this by phone, they at first denied the leaks were related to their work and blamed them on an old leak we had in a separate location via an HVAC pipe. (Soon after, our HVAC technician fixed that leak by patching the HVAC pipes in the roof.) But when R&C showed up and saw the new leaks, they then told us they would repair their own work, without admitting any blame. This would have been fine—but this year we've had yet more leaks in the same exact location. Again, this area never leaked prior to R&C's work. We once again called R&C, who came out, looked at our parapet walls, and told us the walls looked fine to them. This time they blamed the exteriors of the parapet walls, saying water may have entered that way.
Exacerbated, we called several other masons and roofers to assess the problem. All 10 of them told us the same thing: R&C had done a poor job. One roofer called the work "amateurish." These people told us that, when R&C removed the flashing, they simply exposed decayed brick that let in water and they did not sufficiently rebuild or tuckpoint the parapet walls to prevent leaks.
We don't think these companies were telling us this just to drum up business for themselves. In fact, the roofers said they could not do the brick work and that we would need masons to take care of it. And again, all 10 of these professionals had the same negative assessment of R&C's work.
What makes this even more upsetting is that, when R&C first removed the flashing and saw the poor quality of the bricks, the company charged us an additional $3,000 to repair them, bringing the total cost from $3,500 to $6,500. In the end, we spent $6,500 to get new leaks we never had.
To fix the problem once and for all, we had to find a professional company that actually knows what it's doing. That clearly isn't R&C.
this company just gives you a real good gut feeling about them.
From the day of contact, and I mean over several months they were so reassuring and professional. That's from the office worker to the workers that actually did the job. Its like you have known them forever.
We had to work from the yard next door and you could not tell they had been there. In fact my neighbor asked if they showed up because they left no signs of being there. Everything was cleaned up
