Handyman Reviews in Chicago

Dissatisfied. I'm giving
three stars because he is a nice guy and was responsive. As far as the "big deal" goes, I'd give it one star. I really feel like I was screwed. I paid $69 for a "big deal"... I thought I was buying two hours of handyman work, not two hours of handyman "labor" ...
came with no tools and no supplies. Scratch that, he had the electric drill. In all of my communications with
- on Angie's list, on Yahoo and via text, I was very clear that I wanted baseboards and door trim (cut) and installed in a roughly 14 x 14 sq ft room. Everything else (door thresholds, coat rack, towel bar, etc.) would be on a "time permitting" basis. AT NO TIME PRIOR TO ARRIVAL was I notified that
did not have/would not have a saw to cut the baseboards, nails to install the baseboards, air compressor with nail gun attachment, etc. All I can say is this, if I had a saw for baseboards or an air compressor or any other sort of "serious" tools, I would probably be able to use them and wouldn't need a handyman!
As it stands, I paid almost 70 bucks for work that I pretty much could've done myself. Not happy.

They sent out
to do some work on my rental unit. I had to wait a week and a half because they were that booked, and was that much more disappointing when I had to wait that long, and the work ended up not being done.
two fixtures needed to be installed, quarter round in the kitchen that I had just put down vinyl peel-and-stick tile, and then that same tile to be installed in the laundry room on a floor I had just leveled. Some bathroom towel racks to be mounted as well.
I opened the door and introduced myself. After a full moment, he introduced himself as
. I showed him the fixtures to be hung, the bathroom stuff, and problems arose when we came to the kitchen. Having leveled the floor, the washer/dryer were in the kitchen.
said that he would have to work around this huge obstacle, that it would take so much time due to working around obstacles. He asked if I wanted my new floor scratched, with him moving things. And, that he had to go all the way to the hardware store to buy the quarter round, that it would come out of my time. I understand that, but having a washer/dryer in the middle of the room, where quarter round is not going to be installed, and asking if I want my floors scratched, was not appreciated. He obviously did not want to do it. That was okay.
I showed him the laundry room, with the newly leveled floor, needing peel and stick tile put on it. There were bumps in the floor from the leveler. He said, flat out, he can't do it. He said he has to guarantee it for a year, and he won't do it, because of the bumps. And, it would take 6 hours to do it, the room being square, no obstacles, and being 5 feet by 10 feet. 6 hours! He said it needed to be sanded, and made it a point that he was not going to do it. I grew exasperated, as there was something he couldn't do, because of one thing or another. I said he can't tile, he can't put down quarter round, that means theres no work for him to do. he was very happy with that answer, and flew out of there.
I sanded the floor myself, and tiled it, and installed quarter round. For sanding and tiling, it took me, a novice, a total of 4 hours. I'm glad i saved the cash and did it myself.

Handyman reviews in Chicago

From the time that we purchased this deal, It took us 17 days just to schedule an appointment with them to discuss the work to be done. During this time we communicated via Angie's list messages and by leaving phone messages. Someone from
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
finally did come out to the house to discuss the work. He seemed to be competent and showed up on time and after reviewing the scope of the work, he promised to get back to us, in his words "...soon" with a work schedule. However, that never happened.
We tried contacting
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
repeatedly—both by email and phone—for an update, but they gave us nothing but radio silence in return. Our attempt to get a hold of them lasted another few weeks which pushed us out well over 1 month since the purchase date. As we had to have the work completed for a home appraisal—and they were aware of this—we were forced to cancel our Big Deal with
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
and find another service provider. Even after canceling they never uttered a word of apology or otherwise. Luckily, Angie's list was sympathetic and accommodating which was much appreciated.
If you expect professionalism and need work done in a timely manner, stay away from
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
. They are unpredictable at best. I understand that contractors can get overbooked with work however, we don't even know if this was the case in our situation because they chose to ignore us completely. A standard reply via email or phone saying "We're overbooked and appreciate your patience" would have been the professional thing to do. Instead, I'm inclined to assume that they never intended to do the work in the first place and just wanted our money.

I purchased the "$275 for a Day of Deck and Fence Restoration" special. Regardless of the 3 proposed dates, I first received some general question email, then asking about the measurements and then all communications stopped. It's been 2 weeks and work is still not performed and I have not heard from them for a week.
I tried to call them as well, but of course nobody answers and voicemail box is full so it's not possible to leave any messages.
I definitely do not recommend
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
for any job. An F experience overall!

Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was very prompt to respond to my initial request. I sent him a message asking if he did fan installation along with a picture of the hole in the ceiling. He responded quickly and provided a quote. We made arrangements for him to stop by and look at it to determine what he'd need to do the job - he arrived exactly when he said he would. Then we agreed for him to come two days later to do the job - again, he showed up promptly at the time we agreed. Very friendly and professional and the was done quickly. The cost came in lower than the quote. Definitely recommend his services.

Aeron is great and I'd definitely hire him again. He is competent, professional, trustworthy and helpful in offering his candid opinions. Today's work ended up taking less time than was initially projected, which was nice.

Due to rain, the initial trip was cut short, and we had to complete the rest of the work later. Everything worked out, and the work happened flawlessly. Zero complains.

This provider gets F+ for communication and wasting my time. I bought the 'big deal' service from this provider. I called two times left message over a period of a week but no phone call back neither was there any acknowledgement of my voice mail. I sent 6 emails and Angie List messages but there was no response. I even told them that I am getting really frustrated from lack of response but there was no response. There was initial acknowledgment to my purchase and they proposed Tuesday. It has been a week it is Monday 3pm and there is no confirmation form the provider that they are coming tomorrow and I don't know how they will come because they don't have my address.
It has been horrible experience working with this provider. May be they are more interested in the bigger projects and don't care about $249 promotional price project. I know others have had similar experience with this provider. They should really remove the "big deal' if they can't do the work.

I contacted
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
to have them give me a quote on the replacement of drywall in a closet; drywall around newly installed fixtures; as well as the rerouting of cable wires outside a window (to make less conspicuous); installation of an additional downspout on garage gutters. The
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
employees who provided these quotes showed up on time and were professional in their assessment of what needed to be done on these jobs.
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
contractors who came out to do the job were also on time, worked efficiently and the end product was terrific. The downspout works well and matches the rest of the gutter system. The cables are out of sight-line of the window and are virtually unnoticeable now that they are attached to a concrete wall behind some shrubs. The closet looks terrific-- the installer had great attention to deal--he found trim that matched the existing. I can't tell where he patched the drywall--it looks indistinguishable from the rest of the ceiling.

Overall a very good experience. The work was good quality and the contractor was great, very professional. The project time frame went over the estimate by a day, but not too bad. Would definitely use them again.
