Handyman Reviews in Chicago

did a great job, but I did have one complaint. The referral he provided for completing work he was unable to complete (
& Son Construction/Concrete) never called me back. I would suggest they no longer refer clients to poor service providers.

was fast, professional, and patient with me. I was a pain in his butt because I was concerned about the hourly rate and the potential for this to be taken advantage of. There wasn't any reason for concern. He finished the job in just under 2 hours, and only charged me for the supplies he actually used in the end. The original estimate over the phone was 2-3 hours, so he finished just below the lower end of the estimate. I watched
work because he was skillful and I thought I could learn a bit from his technique. Since I was watching him the whole time, I am 100% sure he finished the job as fast as possible. In retrospect, I shouldn't have gotten so concerned about the hourly rate being taken advantage of. A $40.00 service call charge and $88.00 per hour for labor means that they do just fine on profit, and they have more incentive to do high quality work at a healthy pace so that they get repeat customers and referrals.
Note that if you know what exactly what supplies a job will require, you should pick them up from the hardware store ahead of
if possible. Otherwise, you are paying $88.00 an hour for your
to go shopping. On the other hand,
did the whole hardware store trip in 20 minutes, and I wouldn't have bought the right supplies if I had gone myself.
Other things I should point out: the dispatcher was able to get me a
within 1 hour of requesting one. Not many companies can coordinate that quickly.

Handyman reviews in Chicago

One person (don't recall his name) did the repairs and power washing one day. I was impressed that he brought a plastic bag with him to put the washer in after when carrying through my house. Very nice detail and appreciated. Then
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
came out a few days later to stain. They were on time, did a great job, cleaned up well, and in a timely manner. I'm very happy with the work and my experience overall.

They were prompt, courteous, friendly, skilled. They organized the pieces then began construction & worked consistently until they were complete. The job was well done! Our granddaughter is thrilled with her play house!

He's a good guy, friendly, hardworking, high energy. Wants to get the job done. Seems to have a broad knowledge of construction although hard to tell from my limited tasks. He doesn't nickel and dime his clients - he bought light switches for me but didn't charge for them.
He was running late between jobs but handled it well, calling to let me know where he was and when he expected to arrive.

The original person assigned to me had a personal emergency (wife went into premature labor) and they had to put a different person on the job. This moved my time from 11 am to later in the afternoon, but the communication from the company was good. Rich arrived and reviewed my list of issues. He had to go to Home Depot for some parts but was ultimately able to complete everything within the two hour window. He was professional and courteous and took care of all my repairs -- except for an issues with my gas range that needs more specialized attention. I would use

The handyman came and did a neat and efficient job of removing the existing pedestal sink in the bathroom. He then made me aware of the fact the vanity I purchased to replace the pedestal sink was not in line with the plumbing and that the installation would require a plumber.
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
and I (via email) discussed the options and I decided to use my own plumber (there was a rather major event in the wall). The vanity was installed by the plumber, who did not replace baseboards. I contacted
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
to ask if the handyman could return and replace the baseboards. He did that today and he did it very well. And although the job was not what I planned it to be, I would use
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
again for these reasons: very responsive, dependable, clean and I was left with the overall impression that I could trust this company.

Dissatisfied. I'm giving
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
three stars because he is a nice guy and was responsive. As far as the "big deal" goes, I'd give it one star. I really feel like I was screwed. I paid $69 for a "big deal"... I thought I was buying two hours of handyman work, not two hours of handyman "labor" ...

came with no tools and no supplies. Scratch that, he had the electric drill. In all of my communications with
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
- on Angie's list, on Yahoo and via text, I was very clear that I wanted baseboards and door trim (cut) and installed in a roughly 14 x 14 sq ft room. Everything else (door thresholds, coat rack, towel bar, etc.) would be on a "time permitting" basis. AT NO TIME PRIOR TO ARRIVAL was I notified that
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
did not have/would not have a saw to cut the baseboards, nails to install the baseboards, air compressor with nail gun attachment, etc. All I can say is this, if I had a saw for baseboards or an air compressor or any other sort of "serious" tools, I would probably be able to use them and wouldn't need a handyman!
As it stands, I paid almost 70 bucks for work that I pretty much could've done myself. Not happy.

They sent out
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
to do some work on my rental unit. I had to wait a week and a half because they were that booked, and was that much more disappointing when I had to wait that long, and the work ended up not being done.
two fixtures needed to be installed, quarter round in the kitchen that I had just put down vinyl peel-and-stick tile, and then that same tile to be installed in the laundry room on a floor I had just leveled. Some bathroom towel racks to be mounted as well.
I opened the door and introduced myself. After a full moment, he introduced himself as
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
. I showed him the fixtures to be hung, the bathroom stuff, and problems arose when we came to the kitchen. Having leveled the floor, the washer/dryer were in the kitchen.
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
said that he would have to work around this huge obstacle, that it would take so much time due to working around obstacles. He asked if I wanted my new floor scratched, with him moving things. And, that he had to go all the way to the hardware store to buy the quarter round, that it would come out of my time. I understand that, but having a washer/dryer in the middle of the room, where quarter round is not going to be installed, and asking if I want my floors scratched, was not appreciated. He obviously did not want to do it. That was okay.
I showed him the laundry room, with the newly leveled floor, needing peel and stick tile put on it. There were bumps in the floor from the leveler. He said, flat out, he can't do it. He said he has to guarantee it for a year, and he won't do it, because of the bumps. And, it would take 6 hours to do it, the room being square, no obstacles, and being 5 feet by 10 feet. 6 hours! He said it needed to be sanded, and made it a point that he was not going to do it. I grew exasperated, as there was something he couldn't do, because of one thing or another. I said he can't tile, he can't put down quarter round, that means theres no work for him to do. he was very happy with that answer, and flew out of there.
I sanded the floor myself, and tiled it, and installed quarter round. For sanding and tiling, it took me, a novice, a total of 4 hours. I'm glad i saved the cash and did it myself.

From the time that we purchased this deal, It took us 17 days just to schedule an appointment with them to discuss the work to be done. During this time we communicated via Angie's list messages and by leaving phone messages. Someone from
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
finally did come out to the house to discuss the work. He seemed to be competent and showed up on time and after reviewing the scope of the work, he promised to get back to us, in his words "...soon" with a work schedule. However, that never happened.
We tried contacting
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
repeatedly—both by email and phone—for an update, but they gave us nothing but radio silence in return. Our attempt to get a hold of them lasted another few weeks which pushed us out well over 1 month since the purchase date. As we had to have the work completed for a home appraisal—and they were aware of this—we were forced to cancel our Big Deal with
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
and find another service provider. Even after canceling they never uttered a word of apology or otherwise. Luckily, Angie's list was sympathetic and accommodating which was much appreciated.
If you expect professionalism and need work done in a timely manner, stay away from
Chicago Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
. They are unpredictable at best. I understand that contractors can get overbooked with work however, we don't even know if this was the case in our situation because they chose to ignore us completely. A standard reply via email or phone saying "We're overbooked and appreciate your patience" would have been the professional thing to do. Instead, I'm inclined to assume that they never intended to do the work in the first place and just wanted our money.
