Ceiling Fan Installation And Repair Reviews in Chicago

Came to Angies list to find the phone number for some installation I hope he does. Decided to write a review on some recent work as I was not sure he was listed here.
did some serious rewiring a while back when the fan kept "blowing out."
More recently - seeminlgy our of the blue - the fan started to wobble horribly on high speeds. Big Time.
came out took a look and found that one of the blades had a truly minor (to my eye barely visible when pointed out) "bing or
." (Most likely from "kissing a cupboard door.")
explained the options: Buy and install five new blades - NOT to try and fix this one or to try and buy just one "same" blade - or to use the good four blades as a four v five blade fan. I liked that final choice and
took out the other four blades and re installed them with proper spacing for a four blade fan. All works 100% right.

Poorly. They cancelled two appointments - no advance notice - and showed up over an hour late when they actually did make it to my apartment. [I made the first appointment a month in advance for early morning. An hour after the appt time, and many calls in to their office, I was told it would be very late in the afternoon before they could make it. So I guess technically I cancelled that appt.] I was told over the phone that it would be a two hour operation. I could only set aside four hours, so when they showed up an hour late, I was down to three. The supervisor told me that he would need to come back with another worker to install the exhaust vent, because no one told him it was a flat roof. No one asked me what type of roof I had. The supervisor gave directions to his workers and said he would be back in an hour with the power switch. The worker had partially finished the task of installing the ceiling fan, but an hour after he was finished, the super had still not shown up and I was running out of time. The supervisor had a personal situation to which he had to attend. I understand this, but the company offered no other assistance to get this job done other than to say the super would call me to set up a time to finish the job. He didn't call that day, nor the next, nor the day after, nor did they respond to my texts and voice mails. Finally I got through - almost a week after the job started. The super would meet me to see what needed to be done. His words "my worker f#$%ed up this job" so I will see you in two days FIRST thing in the morning. On this day, I took another day off work to meet with him and his crew at 800 AM. At 745 AM, he tells me he can't be there until 1200 PM. I reluctantly accept this new appt, but my day is bollixed by now. I return at noon and wait. And wait some more. I call their office and cell phones and text them. No response. At 130 PM, I finally left. I hear nothing from them over the weekend. I do get a call on Sunday afternoon from a gentlemen who claimed he tried to contact me without success. He was to work on the vent. The super finally texts me Monday afternoon saying he "really wants to get this job done" and that I was not at my house when they stopped by. Bottom line:
partially (and poorly according to the owner/supervisor) installed a bathroom fan. It is not hooked up to a power switch, so there is a hole in my wall, not to mention the large opening surrounding the fan itself. Bitter cold outside and the air is coming into our bathroom.
is very poor at communicating with their customers, despite promising to meet appointment times, complete a job, and follow-up. I hesitate to take another day off work since it is likely I will be stood up again and I am not sure if I can trust their personnel to do the correct job for which they were hired. (The super has still not gotten the power switch to me.)

and his crew showed up on-time, performed their duties fine, and finished up without any problems. They ran wire to two rear, two side, and two front channel speakers, one sub-woofer, and wire to the balcony for future expansion. The installation required significant amounts of drywall repair, so I ended up mounting the television once the drywall was repaired and painted. I installed the finish plates, hung all the speakers, routed the center channel speaker wire, and reconnected the entire system.
If you're planning on doing a project like this, there will be plenty of…
- Repairs necessary afterwards despite the best efforts.
- Small tasks necessary afterwards like finish plates, small wiring, and other things overlooked during the project.
- Dust and clean-up afterwards despite the crew's efforts.
The crew (and I) could have made more efforts to spot check the work done to make sure everything was completed. More effort could have been done to minimize the amount of drywall repairs.

Everything went extremely well.

knew exactly what to do. Due to the way our ceiling fans were installed (by someone else),

had to remove 2 fans from the ceiling, correct the issue with how the fans were sitting, then balance one of them. He did an excellent job. He even drove to get a new switch plate for one of our panels. Everything was done in 2 hours. I will definitely use them again for work we need done around our house.

and his partner showed up exactly on time and we walked through all the various projects, discussing pros/cons of a light/heat lamp/fan combo versus an electric radiator for the upstairs bathroom. We decided on the radiator option because installing a vent would require venting out to the roof and involve a roofer to seal it....More /> I was impressed by the professionalism and teamwork of

and his partner. They worked efficiently and seemed to go above and beyond to make sure each job was done in a polished way.
We love the heater in the upstairs bathroom (which previously had no source of heat), and all of the other projects turned out perfectly - new ceiling fan, new light fixture, and replaced outlets and switches.
I'm already scheduling additional work with

The work took approximately 4 - 5 weeks to complete. The subcontractor, Best Quality, performed fabulous work and cleaned up every day when the work was done. The job involved converting an interior room to an exterior four season porch. The demolition was performed quickly and efficiently. The ceiling was removed to expose interior beams from the attic and a cedar ceiling was installed above the beams. exterior brick was exposed and siding added to the interior walls. sliding glass doors and porcelain wood floors were installed. Hardwood floors, baseboard and closet doors were installed in the adjoining rooms. finally, a four piece bath was re-tiled with marble wall tile and granite floor tile. All rooms were painted. I am completely satisfied with the work and the pricing, The owner is pleasant to deal with and the subcontractor was comfortably professional. I highly recommend

I bought a new condo they needed the carpet removed, additional closet space and storage, lighting fixtures, electrical work, kitchen back splash and a feeling of home. Ed and his team made all of that happen and more. I still need a lot more work done but they made it feel more like a home then ever before.

Excellent service. Nick was thorough, cleaned up after himself (a blessing!) - he explained and demonstrated where bathroom faucet is broken - cannot be repaired - he will return as soon as I call him with the new fittings
I highly recommend this company.

If you are someone who likes a short and sweet review- you owe it to yourself to meet with Cartage and get a quote from them. They did great work and are fully trustworthy.
If you like more details, read on...
I received 3 quotes to perform extensive work on my house. As you see from the list above, I had a ton of work done. Because of the strong reviews on Angie's List, I included Cartage in the 3 quotes I received. Like one of the other reviewers said previously, at hello you realize

are good people which is hugely important to me.
Their price came right in the middle of the three quotes. Because of the reviews and the impression they left during the quote process, I elected to go with them.
The four things I judge a contractor on most are- do they do good work, was their quote accurate, are they flexible, and are they clean/respectful?
To answer those questions...
They did a great job with all of the projects listed above. I could go into detail about each project but just know each one was completed as expected. The house looks fantastic now!
Their quote proved to be accurate and they did not add additional charges or anything like that.
Additionally, they were very patient with me as I changed my mind several times on the work I wanted done.
I did not live in my place during the construction but I do share an entrance with my neighbor in the townhouse next door. Cartage was sure to vacuum the entrance each day which kept my neighbor very happy.
Overall, great experience and I would absolutely recommend them.

arrived five minutes early, got quickly to work and installed a new bedroom fan with light. My husband says it works better than the previous one. He repaired a fixture that had been broken for ten years next. A light switch/outlet was quickly and easily repaired. He also looked at a pair of touch lights and advised me that because they have a computer chip in them he couldn't fix them. Lastly, he fixed a troublesome outlet by installing a new 'box' and outlet.
It was terrific to get four or five lighting needs met by one workman.
