"I scraped my driver's side rear door turning too close into my parking lot. With the exception of a tiny (3"x1/2") scrape/ to the rear panel bordering the door, the /scrape was limited to the rear door. Upon first look, and after asking me whether or not this was an insurance or out-of-pocket payment, the ...more estimator said (paraphrasing) "Well, I can tell you off the top of my head that this'll run around $1200", to which I replied, "You're kidding, right??" "Oh no" he says, "each panel of the car that we have to touch runs $300-$400." As there was minimal damage to the rear panel, I said "Well, okay, leave that alone and just fix the door." "Oh no", he says, "we'll have to blend the paint backwards on the rear panel and forwards onto the front door." He then proceeded to tell me how dire the damage was as the paint had been scraped down to the metal and it would very soon begin to rust. For the record, the door panel is not made of metal. I'm just sayin'. The scrapes are so shallow, they can barely be felt by hand. And why does the paint have to blend onto panels that do not touch the repair? The front door is 18" away from the

The gentlemen there (also after asking whether or not this would be out-of-pocket vs. insurance) took one look at the damage and said "$550."
